well some prefer the leather seats, others prefer cloth...
Well, I will rise to NM's challenge, so here's a poll!

When flying economy, what coverings do you prefer on your seat?

For me, covering is one of the least important aspects of a seat. (But I'll pass on #2.)

We may all prefer option 1 but lets face it - those seats are always option 2 (unless your the first person on after a fabric change)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

To be fair, I feel the poll could have used a 5th option: High Quality grade leather ...

... however I would still have gone for fabric ...

Like most polls, it is designed to give the answer they want.

Sir Humphrey Appleby: Mr. Woolley, are you worried about the rise in crime among teenagers?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Do you think there is lack of discipline and vigorous training in our Comprehensive Schools?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Do you think young people welcome some structure and leadership in their lives?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Do they respond to a challenge?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Might you be in favour of reintroducing National Service?
Bernard Woolley: Er, I might be.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Yes or no?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Of course, after all you've said you can't say no to that. On the other hand, the surveys can reach opposite conclusions.
[survey two]
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Mr. Woolley, are you worried about the danger of war?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Are you unhappy about the growth of armaments?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Do you think there's a danger in giving young people guns and teaching them how to kill?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Do you think it's wrong to force people to take arms against their will?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Would you oppose the reintroduction of conscription?
Bernard Woolley: Yes.
[does a double-take]
Sir Humphrey Appleby: There you are, Bernard. The perfectly balanced sample.

Aha! Thnx Kiwi...

I have just rechecked the options with a deeper analysis and yea verily; there is really only one 'good' option.

Methinks d15.in.oz is practicing some social engineering among AFF'ers   .

The fabric is nice, but really, who is gonna choose an airline based on seat covering?

Has to be one of my all time favourite Yes Minister/Prime Minister episodes!

Well, I could have called the leather “easy-clean vinyl” in my suggestion, but then that implies that it might be cleaned regularly!

In economy class  …what airline would do that?

Perhaps the most interesting thing to note -

Me too, ‘cause regardless, that seems to be what we all end up with! (As milehighclub asserts.)

Oh, and one other thought...of those who answered"whatever", when was the last time you tried out economy class on a flight over 3 hours on LCC leather?

Air NZ and Freedom Air. Admittedly the leather isnt as good as SQ F for example, but still not bad.

Would you sit on a wooden bench/seat for a 10 hour flight?

The type of seat covering would be important to some people.

Is there a relevant LCC that puts people on benches?

I know I wont fly an LCC but that because I am spoilt on premium cabins and dont need to travel in whY - I dont understand your pathological hatred of LCC when you dont fly them john...

Actually I have flown LCCs on a number of occassions, Air North recently, and will continue to do so, if the price is right, but that is irrelevant.

The question was what seat cover do you prefer in economy and would people make a decision on which flights to take based on seat covering. I did not mention LCC, until now, in this thread!

I travel economy, most times, and to me the seat covering is very important. I will base my carrier/flight selection on the type of seat covering offered. I will not sit on wooden bench seats on an airline, I don't think any airline currently offers this type of seat covering anyway, nor would I sit on leather covered seats. I prefer fabric and hopefully it gets cleaned on a regular basis. Just my humble opinion.

E-C-O-N-O-M-Y? I think was much worse than any of my comments in this thread! YMMV!

JohnK, I believe simongr's comment was probably based on the fact that he hasn't flown in economy for a while (perhaps it was tongue-in-cheek).

I haven't flown for a while, so any seat would do me, cloth or otherwise

I would not have thought there were too many people that would base their airline choice on seat covers - I know I certainly would not. In any case, this thread began off posing the question of what people prefer, nothing to do with whether it was a deal maker/breaker.

While I do plan to do something silly like a business/first class round the world trip one day, I will also be sitting generally in economy (unless I change employer :) ).

So you don't want to fly Singapore first class then? If Qantas used leather seats who would you fly then?
