What’s the point of being in a loyalty program with qantas?

Vic, forgive me, but what of anything i wrote did you find to be an "offensive attack" of the OP? Just curious.

I think the person that was the most hostile and "attacking" in this thread was the OP - look at her replies to other posters....

You said yourself that your post was blunt. Clearly some doctors are delicate flowers who have been cloistered away from such discourse. Perhaps they responded according to the tone of the posts they received?

Because I know juddles and realise that is his way and it isn't meant to be offensive.See his replies above explaining his original comment.
And by the way offense is a personal opinion. How do you know I am not offended by being called a 10000 post gorilla?
You must also realise that what you describe happens to newbies who join up to have a rant. Those who join that have a question or merely to sift through the knowledge here are welcomed.Too many of the ranters never appear again.
And yes it is true that people can be put to the torch here on AFF but on the other hand others come in and offer support. We were all newbies once. Also realise that many on here really are frequent travellers or possibly obsessed by loyalty programs so really cant understand how someone who has 15 years as SG could have so little knowledge of such a simple task as getting seat allocation.

You probably assume too much to think the gorilla tag applies to you. I would associate you more with the mob.

Besides gorillas are noble animals

I flew 25 sectors on EK in Y as a QF codeshare last year - roughly 20 of those as Gold (the remainder as Platinum).

Not once did I have issues making a seat reservation on EK but the trick - as others have pointed out - is to do so using the EK website; selections made via the QF website do not, IME, "stick".
Out of interest as a Gold did you have an EK seat allocated at time of booking?

I have another EK flight BNE-SIN in ~2 weeks and I've been allocated an aisle seat 2-3 rows back from bulkhead in the second economy cabin on the 777. I usually ask at check-in for bulkhead or exit row seat. I'll see if I can choose a seat on the EK website.

I have just caught up with all the details of this thread and seem to have all the qualifications that the OP was seeking.

Mara. Welcome to AFF

I’m in my 60s, I am a Moderator, I have been Qantas Platinum for many years and am now ‘Life Time Gold’, I have a Master’s Degree in Aviation Management, I have an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (Fixed & Rotary wing), have been Chief Pilot for a huge multi-national corporation and am now working on the new basic trainer project for the RAAF.

Just offering my services if there’s anything that the OP needs including seat selection.

Before anyone else is permitted to post in this thread, they must provide evidence of their tertiary qualifications and responsible service of alcohol certificate - we can then create a hybrid TV show of Border Security and RBT.
According to my handle, I’m a Greek god, keeper of the wind and resident of the island Aeolia. That should be enough qualification to make you mere mortals’ heads spin even without alcohol, surely? :D

IMHO, OP’s DYKWIA moments could actually be turned into a benefit for the next in line. All that person need to do is to show some emphathy with the ground staff and watch the extra benefits roll in (I was a beneficiary once ).

'Angel' would be more appropriate than God i would have thought - and in the words of Jerry's mom - 'Who could not like Aeolus?'

CE! Long time no see! I’ll accept angel. Was going to change it to god-dess but was afraid lighting would strike me. :p

For christ's sake, threatening to splash this thread over social media? I think the OP has shown just how

There are some toxic people on this forum sometimes. Don't let it get to you.

Mara might threaten to sue you for defamation next!!

So is that what "Aeolus" means?! Unfortunately, I have no tertiary or quartenary qualifications to add to this conversation except to say that as a QF Plat for the last 9 years, I have been opped up ONCE but I forego that for an earlier flight :(

That is what we need to see more of - rational decisions made based on personal need rather than emotional decisions that land one in hot water. Not rocket science, so no tertiary/quaternary quals required.

But you did quote a post of mine when you made the point about 10000 post gorillas. And there are only 19 of us with>10000 posts.
So I am guessing you have an interest in politics seeing you have mastered the art of a backflip.

Slightly OT but can you be sued for defamation when the defamed is using an alias ?

In general terms, when establishing a defamation claim it is generally immaterial whether a poster has launched a deliberate attack on your reputation, fired off a post in anger or innocently repeated a defamatory statement made by a third party. If the post is read and reputational damage or lowering has been suffered then a claim against the poster could be pursued. If the person/s is known to others in the group the use of an alias doesn't diminish the chance of a claim but it may limit the compensation based on exposure of the posting.

Ah, so we have a troop.

Well I can’t even get my complaint right, have no idea we’re i should have posted this. Help!

Yep, when you can't get your complaint right (and then loose it), security is called.
Here are a list of things having a higher higher education have NOT afforded the OP :-

1. The ability to select a seat online
2. The ability to make complaint without having security called.
3. The ability to post in the correct place on the online forum.
4. The ability to recognise that AFF is not run by the airlines.
5. The ability to take constructive criticism.
6. The ability to laugh at oneself and thank those offering advice.

However, if there is a reward for digitally sticking your head in the sand when conversation doesn't go your way,
the OP deserves an upgrade on the next flight into rage they choose to board.

Pretty sure it did according to my QFF preferences ... But I would always check and move myself as I needed. I have a roller that’s maximum and it won’t fit wheels-back in the overheads in the first 3-4 rows of the fwd A380 cabin, so always checked I wasn’t too far fwd!!

Fabulous responses to my gripes about QFF ignoring my 1330 SC. Advice received was much appreciated. I realise now that after flying to and back from OS and a load of non oneworld carriers over a two month period, I ignored the Four QF flight condition...bummer, but a quick trip to FNQ will hopefully rectify that shortcoming. Just hope that the conditions of QFF points and SC won’t change with the proposed ‘enhancements’ to be announced next week. Thanks!

Went around Europe over Easter with my status matched United Platinum card (over from Virgin Platinum). Was put in the exit row or front row on all Lufthansa and Turkish flights at no extra cost with cheap economy tickets...
