I have an I class flight on Qatar from LHR to DOH to ADL coming up shortly.

I have dropped from Gold to Silver on Qatar and this won't be quite enough to get me back to Gold.

I have just realised that I will drop from Silver on Virgin today.

I can find the points earn on the flights for Virgin but can't work out how to find the SC credit earn to see whether it's worth crediting to VA so I could possibly get back to Silver (which I know isn't much but it does get a couple of lounge passes a year)

The other alternative is to credit them to BA for more Avios. I'm LTG with QF and don't want to credit anything to them if possible (not that I can)

Any assistance appreciated.

So much confusion on whether to book through virgin or Qatar,
On virgin there is one business fare whereas Qatar there are 3-4 fare types with variations in seat selection lounge access etc
Then of course the flight from Doha to europe is QATAR plane.
Does anyone have any concrete info on this?

Need to consider your own circumstance and the new requirement for 50% of your SCs to be earned by yourself on VA coded or operated flights.

As a QR silver member, you also have lounge access if you fly on a QR marketed/operated flight, priority check-in and boarding.

In BNE, it’s the AIRNZ lounge, silver lounge in Doha which is just a very small cafeteria.

Keep in mind to maintain status with Virgin Australia from the 1st of October 2025, at least 50% of your flights have to be with a VA code.

Eligible Sectors will no longer be used. Instead, to upgrade or maintain to Silver, Gold, and Platinum Status, 50% of your Status Credits balance must be earned on Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights flown by you.

This means that when you fly on a flight with a VA flight number (e.g., VA 800 Sydney to Melbourne - operated by Virgin Australia, or VA 8507 Brisbane to San Fransisco - operated by United Airlines), or when you fly on a Virgin Australia flight with an Airline Partner flight number (e.g., SQ 6435 Canberra to Brisbane - operated by Virgin Australia), the Status Credits you earn will contribute to this 50% Status Credit eligibility requirement.

That's 50% of your SC earn have to be VA Marketed or operated... with a VA code, not flights.

This is the bit I don't quite understand.

If I book a flight, CBR-LHR next year, and provide my VA number, will this meet this criteria?

You need to be booked flights using a VA number, not QR

VA Marketed is when you have a VA operated and numbered or codeshare flight operated by a partner with a VA number.
They also include flights with other carrier flight numbers, but operated by VA.

All 3 legs have VA numbers so all qualify as VA flights even though using QR metal.

Buying tickets on the same route but with QR flight numbers for their legs do not qualify as the 50% VA flights for status accural.

Using a similar search on Qatar's site I get:

The flights MEL >> LHR on QR metal are not codeshare with VA, so adding your VA FF number only qualifies you to status earn which will not be considered in the 50%.

You do get VA status as part of the 50% for the first flight on this itinerary as it's QR codeshare on VA metal.

I booked SYD - DOH - LIS return and the SYD to DOH legs were marked as VA1 and VA2. These status credits do not count as part of the Virgin earnt status credits though. It would have renewed my Gold status automatically but no such luck.

That makes no sense unless you didn't buy the flight with a VA number on the reservation - or are they expecting you to buy through VA and not an OTA.

I think they expect us to buy through Virgin Australia, which is not possible since they for some reason don't offer the option of flying to Lisbon on their website.

Just to clarify, the original booking showed a QR flight number for all legs but the boarding pass specifically showed VA flight numbers for the SYD - DOH legs. As after 4 or so weeks I hadn't received the status credits nor points for the the SYD - DOH legs, I placed a request for missing points. My e-ticket number had to be provided and the flight number (which I put as the VA number) and I had points and status credits applied to my account but not off my 50% velocity required status credits..... I hope that all makes sense!

Thank you - that does great assist.

Frustrating, I can see the QR leg from CBR-MEL-DOH-LHR - all on QR metal (777-300ER) but we can't book the CBR-MEL-DOH leg on VA - it pushes you to a VA 737 flight.

Back to the drawing board.

Yes, this was relaxed ever so slightly. Flights operated by VA now are included in that 50%.

i.e. VA marketed and/or VA operated.
