Virgin Australia launches 'coronavirus status extension' plan

I haven't received either email from VA. I actually never receive emails from VA. I have checked my profile and all the options under communication preferences are selected. When the world settles down again I will give them a call to check on this.
I just qualified as Platinum early this month, so not sure if I will benefit from this or not.
Have you checked your spam folder?

So am I correct in assuming that even though we get a status extension, any credits we have will still expire?

I'm set to hit Gold in May when we travel to QLD but I doubt we are going, which means if I don't fly by July I'll have lost my chance to upgrade as I will lose a heap of SC then and won't recover them by the time the extension is over as I have reward flights booked which won't earn me any.
I'm currently 100 SC away from upgrading and am at Silver, the 60 they give me won't be enough sadly.
There's little way of knowing at this stage. Will have to wait for that comm over the next fortnight.

Thanks for the suggestion . No, the junk folder is empty.

Depending on what email client you're using, it may also have a Social or Newsletter folder into which a lot of mailing list-based emails are tossed...

Anyone else already have enough SCs to requalify for platinum who aren't sure they will benefit at all from this (after putting in the hard yards)? Does it mean that the current qualification period will be extended by a year (and hence already qualiying for the following period) or will it just be automatically rolled over and you start from zero again? I think Qantas is the latter, but I can't be sure from Virgin's wording.

I wonder if I will benefit from this, I have already maintained my gold (review date 24-08-20) so will I be getting another year on top? 24-08-22 expiry without any input?

The short answer is we have no idea. I guess all the details will be revealed next week.

A generous and welcome offer.

I re qualified for VA platinum two months into my new Velocity year at the end of last August which will give me platinum until the end of August 2021.

I wonder if I will receive the extra year. To be honest I'd be quite happy to see VA survive and flourish and for me to re qualify with all the flying I intend to do with VA.

I hope they drag their feet on this. MrsMac and I are both Plat and requalified for the next 12 months, starting from April 1. If they commence the extensions from after then then we get two years before soft landing, if not just the one we already have.

To be clear this isn’t a complaint, just an observation. In truth, if VA are simply still around in two years I’ll be very happy

Thanks for the thought, I don't have those folder types, just simple inbox and junk. I have taken Serfty's suggestion and updated my profile with a new email address. When I did this I received emails at both the old email address and the new email address confirming the changes.

I had this exact problem for years. I had to call. It took them a long time to fix it. I have no idea why. Everyone else in my family got emails except for me.

Does anyone know if you're a Red member are you getting any SC ?

This is far fairer that Qantas's effort. It does not leave those who's "year" just ended in the lurch.

It's effectively extending status for those who have it month by month, presumably for as long as necessary. If it goes for a full year at the same rate than that is 840 SC's for WP - just need the 8 flights I guess.
I feel the offer is OK and acceptable. This offer will give me 105 SCs + potential 37 SCs coming back from SYD after Easter if that trip goes ahead which just about gets me Gold again with early October reassessment.

Qantas offer was generous but I still have to earn 1200 SCs from 01 June to maintain Platinum status another year.

Wouldn’t think so as only silvers, golds and plats were mentioned as getting them, I think this initiative is meant to boost those with a minimum of silver. Their email wasn’t very tailored unlike QF.

And some members were wondering why a 12 month extension wasn't the best idea in the world.

And the answer to your question is, as I'm sure you'll be unsurprised to learn, is no.
Rethinking what I am trying to achieve i.e. a full refund. Can you change discount J to Flex J then request a refund. All my bookings are greater than 30 days in advance so there is not change to to move the booking to a higher booking class. I cannot see anything in the rules that would suggest that this cannot be done.

Restrictions of the original ticket apply. In that scenario you're essentially using the former ticket as credit against the new, IIRC

Just booked VA syd-per for next weekend. Catching up with family while that's still possible, and will just get me to Silver the day before i start losing status credits...

Given there's no bonus for Red, and flights being cancelled, I'm hoping this was the right move for the future...
Do you reckon they'll give me the gift bonuses announced yesterday?? I'm hoping so!!
