Vinomofo Wine Deals

Hi one and all, I'm a newbie to this forum having only just discovered it searching around for the dirt on some of Vinomofo's deals yesterday! I've been buying wine on-line for quite a few years and like most of you have had my share of ahem, "regrettable purchases", have dealt with Winebox Warehouse, GWD, Cloudwine, Glug, Winemarket, Nick's, Starwine et al and most recently Vinomofo in the last year or two. My most recent purchase, the Black market 2014 GSM aka Rosemount Little Berries GSM was, to be honest, another average wine having been touted as something pretty extraordinary on the 'Fo. Anyway, sorry to butt in on the thread, I just wanted to break the ice and join the throng....

Welcome, looks like the usual suspects for online wine purchases.

Thanks for this Dalvin. Hit the buy and anxiously await. Pricing just like the 'Fo's so good ballpark. Very high scores have my sense on anticipation on high. Cheers.

You must be very "sangfroid" to hit the buy button so quickly.
Heard first time of Allegiance wines. Any pointers for purchase?

PS: just know the sangfroid meaning this morning while reading the Euro France vs Germany soccer match.

Hi Whining&Dining - welcome to AFF.

To be honest, VM has become so big that I doubt there's ever going to be any really amazing deals anymore - they just can't source the volume required for their mass of customers.

What were your impressions of the Little Berry GSM? I guess, at a "full RRP" (aka inflated max price) of $32, one can't really expect anything great, especially from a producer with no real track record of producing high-end GSMs.

6 Rosemount Estate Limited Release Syrah 2013 + 6 Rosemount Estate Little Berry MV GSM 2014 at $225, seems good, struggling ......
did you pull the trigger? and we have just had a mediocre review of the little berries from a well read, and multi-bought newbee. Was the little berries a little too soft in the body department?

Sangfreud maybe more like it jk. When you take the punt on a six pack that is going for about $19 a bottle you do expect a quality improvement over the twelve bucker. Fortunately I am very happy with my purchases in this regard, in fact I am highly glowing of that May purchase from an unknown, never heard of crowd(like Allegiance, but I had heard of them) one kakaba reserve shiraz 2013. An absolute stunner for me that one. The other one, also in a sixer from last year was the Star lane shiraz. Beauuutiful. I didn't jump onto the merlot from them as I have a stack of a stunner merlot, a 2010 Coonawarra Roger harbord. Bet you haven't heard of him either, but that was thru grays a few years ago. Roger the dodger runs greyhounds, and makes this seriously good merlot.

As with the Fo return policy, Michael Jackson would say that you just can't beat it beat it. Oh yes, reminds me of a joke that intertwines my merlot maker and jacko. What's the difference between a greyhound and a paedo? At least the greyhound waits for the hare to come out. This gag won't last long on here.

Thanks jk (if I can call you that), there have been other forays into the wondrous world of on-line wine purchasing but they were only brief flirtations and I've long forgotten the vendor's details unfortunately. I must admit of late I've been sending back cases to the 'Fo on a fairly frequent basis, it's not that the wine has been necessarily faulty but that the hyperbole of the seller hasn't matched the contents of the bottle. Henry's Block dry-grown Shiraz was a somewhat lack-lustre affair (again considering the hype and the fact that I normally really like WA wines) and the Ulithorne Familia Shiraz was flabby and completely uninspiring so both went back asap! It's a hassle but I'm sick of taking delivery of cases of wine that I know I'll never drink and can only give away or cook with them....

Does anyone here ever get the "Original Club" mixed cases?

I'm guessing they are a Salvation type case with an additional $40 cost?

Thanks for the welcome, to be honest I was hoping that VM had made an error and it was really the 2014 S.C. Pannell Grenache, Shiraz Touriga that I was taking delivery of, having failed to notice the Rosemount in the RQFWS gold medal ranking for the CLASS 60 Grenache or Rhone Blends 2014, I probably wouldn't have 'pulled the trigger' had I known... Impressions of the Little Berries? Actually I thought upon first opening it that it was quite bright and fruit driven but that faded quite quickly to a more lightweight confectionary finish with little length or complexity-bummer! The last time I rang the 'Fo to organise a return they suggested (in a pleasant way) that I could use one of their brokers to fine-tune my purchases but I had had enough of that scenario with GWD and having them ring me at random times trying to force various deals etc down my gullet for me to take them up on it. I'm basically a red drinker, shiraz being my weapon of choice but more than happy to explore the whole gamut including Mouvedre, Cab Merlot, Zinfandel, Durif etc, I unashamedly like big wines and seek out reds that I think are going to float my boat but it is vexed issue especially when so often the wine I receive is nothing like the description I've based my purchase on.

Thanks for the reply W&D. I also found it quite sweet, in a jam-like way. Not a great GSM, but then, I have low/no expectations of a $10 bottle of wine.

The only decent brokers I've have had have been from Langtons, but obviously the price point at which they are selling things is much higher than VM, But the guy I deal with has actually tried most of the wines he's selling me, and actually know what he's talking about aka it's a career for him, rather than a temporary job. Most of the brokers from VM, if you look up their LinkedIn details etc, appear to have no real connection to the wine industry.

The Original Club is 12 wines either red, white or mixed - and they tell you what you are getting in advance.

The Salvation Cases are a lucky dip based on what they've had returned/broken/lying around. Average bottle price is quite a bit lower and is well suited to people who don't mind a punt

Welcome; you can learn alot from the members here.In dealing with the Fo its a little easier I find if they have genuine reveiws such as JH, HH RJ and the knowledgable ones here. Research is better than the Fo;s ramblings.l

Amen. The entire VM business model is built around over-the-top descriptions of the wine. I just ignore them completely. You're much better served by checking Vivino/CellarTracker/wine reviews.
