Vinomofo Wine Deals

I think the 2014 Mudgee Shiraz is Montrose black Shiraz. Sorry on an iPhone so don't have the link to attach.

Any views on Haselgrove The Lear - allegedly ~$90rrp down to ~$30?

Here are my tasting notes:

Intense berry aromas on the nose. Vibrant blueberry and plum fruit - slightly sweet and ever so slightly on the jammy side. There is good secondary complexity already evident, with allspice, aniseed, cigar box, milk chocolate, cappuccino and a touch of cool menthol on the finish. The oak is well toasted, with a touch of vanilla, but still integrating. The tannins are firm but very supple, almost velvety. The wine is drinking nicely now, but clearly has some ageing potential. Nice. A 90 on CT from me.

Is it worth $90 a bottle? - Probably not, but I’d happily pay $30-40 for it, so I think this still represents pretty good value. Still it’s not quite a boom for me. I haven’t bought much from vinomofo recently, and this is not quite enough to entice me. However if you like your reds slightly on the sweeter side then this is probably a good option.

EDIT:
It must be said, that the sweetness of the wine was a suburb counterpoint to the savour flavours from a roasted joint of beef. A truly beautiful match.

Daver6 had said earlier in the thread how good the 2012 vintage of that Cabernet was, so I think you should be in good shape

No Answer was the loud reply, so having finished my last cabernet quaffer , I pulled the trigger anyway but without any great expectation

looking forward to your thoughts on it tgh

I used my credits on a red 'club case', consisting of the following (in pairs) for those interested. Usual price is $199 (!):

Haselgrove - Catkin '14
Riebke - Grenache '14
Five Geese - Nero D'Avolo '14
Mount Avoca - Back Block Shiraz '14
Better Half - Pinot '15
Penley Estate - Cab Sav '13

Tried 3 so far.
Penley estate cab sav - wasn't great, wasn't bad. I won't be in a hurry to open bottle 2. I recall it as being a smoky bbq wine.
Five geese was light and slightly spicy, quite nice. Can't recall much else.
Mount avoca back block shiraz - wasn't a fan, but it was better on night 2, so it needs time to open. It had a strong licorice (?) flavour, almost like lipstick. Won't be in a hurry to open bottle 2.

In terms of quaffers, I find it hard to go past the maverick twins 13' cab blend and gsm, I've still got a few left and have been sharing them around. I haven't seen many people mention the '15 twins gsm which VM had for a brief period, courtesy of a mixed box. I found it unbearably peppery.

Recently purchased the Winerie Parisiene Rose 2015 to use up $35 of credits @ $17.50, have been enjoying a summer of rose...

Read an article recently that stated there was no such thing as decent CHEAP French wine in Australia, I wholeheartedly CONCUR, pity I gave a bottle to a mate and can't return...think FO dollars will be diverted elsewhere!

You can contact them and try returning the rest of the case - you probably won't get the full refund, but may have some luck returning the remainder. Fairly sure others have done this before

My understanding is that you can try up to two bottles from a dozen and still return for full credit with VM (but I obviously wouldn't give the game away about you gifting one to a friend...)

My experience is that they happily refund for 12 when you send back 11.
In principle, I live with my buying decisions both good and bad and have only returned once.
In this case I did , however , manage a full 12 refund for 10 returned after a successful presentation that one was corky so I tried another with the same result.

To clarify - I believe VM will refund for any remaining bottles, but not the full case if you've consumed more than allowed to get a full refund.

I'm reasonably confident that you can get the refund for the full twelve as long as you don't appear to be rorting the system. I have sent back back quite a bit of wine to VM but every time I do I toss the idea around in my mind i.e. mildly agonise over it before requesting a return. I think it is quite a leap of faith to buy a dozen bottles of something you may never have tried (and quite possibly can't try elsewhere because it's a VM exclusive) and then have to hang on to it to either tip down the sink, give away to friends or cook with because it really isn't "as described". I also wouldn't feel too bad about VM's business being adversely affected by having them honour their 100% satisfaction return policy, they shift hundreds of thousands of bottles each year and have an increasingly large share of the on-line market so just do it would be my advice....

Cheers W&D - was only a sixer so will wear it and move on, buyer beware and all that- would expect @ $17.50, something drinkable and vetted as such, last couple of FO purchase's have been poor so won't spending any more of 17s hard earned $$s there

Has anyone tried the Haselgrove 2015 Cul-Stor Shiraz/Cabernet/Cabernet Franc?

I boomed and have tried 1. While the dark fruits are there and are tasty it's just a bit flat. That is, there's no length or depth to the flavour and it's not as full-bodied as expected. Velvety yes, flavoursome yes, deep crimson colour yes but nothing more and not overtly spicy which is expected for a blend.

Wondering if others have tried and have thoughts on how this might cellar? As the balance is there and the palette is satisfied with the initial burst of flavour, I am wondering how this might be after a few years (have only just caught the wine bug so not familiar at all with looking for cellaring potential)? Thankful for any advice for what to look for.

Edit: bought this from VM, wonder if this post is suited here or in the recent wines you have tried thread?
