Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Thoughts on this wine?

Todays Secret Deal Shiraz

Thanks

This one is a little more difficult given that the origin is South Australia, which covers a good percentage of Australian Wine. I also suspect that its not from Barossa or Mclaren Vale, as it may be to easy to guess if they stated a smaller region.

If I was to take a stab, it could be Bleasdale Generations. All the stats match. i.e. Price (from bleasdale website), alc, 96 Halliday points + gold. It is also being sold as a mystery label at Cellarmasters.

from Huon Hooke

Ranked 9 of 25 2010 Shiraz tasted from Langhorne Creek
Deep, dark red colour with a purple rim, and a quite oaky, toasty barrel aroma. Meaty scents too. The palate is dense and concentrated, with a slightly bitter extracted quality (possibly from oak) and the tannins on the aftertaste have an oaky taste which is slightly off-putting and needs time to resolve. Basically, though, it is strictly for oak lovers.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Pilatus, i think you're referring to the 2010, not the 2012 which is advertised.

The 2012 is ranked 1 of 15 according to HH.

I was just about to write a post indicating Hookey rated this wine highly! Interesting they didn't add it to the description. I jumped on a case.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Anyone tried the Ortus Chardonnay? Looking for a reasonable quaffing wine for the wife.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

I received an email today that I am now a VIM. I thought that was for people who spent $1,000+?

Edit: Just looked at the cartons in the lounge room. Ok, maybe I do qualify.

Hi all. Did anyone end up trying the 2011 Thousand Candles? I am still intrigued by this one.

Such a great forum thread for new VM members! Thanks for all the info thus far. I picked up a bottle of the 2011 Thousand Candles in the Premium BM Line Up 3.0. Think I'll crack it this weekend and see. Will post my thoughts once done. Also grabbed a case of the 2012 Thousand Candles. Will be trying that one over Xmas sometime. If interested or useful the rest of the Premium BM Line Up 3.0 included the following:

1 x
Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2014 - don't know much about this one. Doesn't seem to be reviewed anywhere. Any ideas?
1 x Star Lane Vineyard Shiraz 2013
1 x Penley Estate Steyning Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
1 x Alpha Crusis Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
1 x Haselgrove Switch GSM

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

I'm not a big Champaign aficionado, but I do enjoy the occasional glass of bubbles, especially at christmas. I haven't seen any comments here about Vino mof_'s Bisou Bisou, their independent sparkling NV blanc de blancs, so I thought I would add my 2c worth.

https://vinomofo.com/wines/sparkling/bisou-bisou-blanc-de-blancs-nv-4a262496

I recently purchased a half-case primarilly to use as christmas gifts, and thought I'd try one - strictly for for quality control purposes you understand. I was very pleasantly surprised by the wine. To me it was every bit as good as many of the entry-level french offerings, for a fraction of the price. I would not have been surprised if it had been poured from a Verve bottle. It is maybe not quite as refined as Verve, but not very far from it. It is nicely balanced, with a hint of sweetness from the fruit, but beautifully rounded with a voluptuous mouthfeel. I can’t think of any Australian sparking wine that I have enjoyed as much as this one. I have now ordered another case, to make sure there is enough to go around come christmas. If you are looking for a bubbly christmas quaffer I think you could do a lot worse than give this a go.

Apologies, I can't work out how to edit my original post. I just thought I'd post an update regarding the Bisou Bisou Blanc de Blancs. Flushed with our initial success we took another bottle to a family pre-christmas do over the weekend. Unfortunately the second bottle did not have the same finesse as the original bottle. It wasn't bad, but it certainly did not have the same mouthfeel or balance of the original bottle. Both bottles came from the same case, so I am unsure what would have caused the difference. The bottle did travel about 300km by car to it's destination, and was consumed soon after arriving, so I don't know if the travel had any effect on it. It was still an enjoyable drop, but not in the same league as the original bottle.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Poochio I didn't end up trying the 2011 Thousand Candles on the weekend - will have to wait for Xmas time now I think. Will be cracking a 2012 on Saturday night though.

A couple of questions:
1. Has anyone tried the Seppelt St Peters previously? Is it worth splashing out for a case and hanging onto for a while?
2. What about the 3 Dark Horses Shiraz 2014 on for $9.90?
3. Anyone know what any of these are?

Thanks for the update srob - I decided the 2011 may be a risk given the rough year (even with VMs return policy). Will be interested to hear about the 2012 though.

From memory, the two black markets have been discussed before, Pyrenees may be Mt Avoca. Anonymous Coward is the oracle though when it comes to previous deals!
