Great competition Virgin Australia. Great way to support the AFF community. I'm going to have to put some serious thought into this competition! I don't envy the person who has to judge all the entries.

On the first part of this topic (ie. T5 rather than the competition) - what's the deal with lounge access? Will there be DL lounge access for Plat/Gold/J-class when departing LA on VA?

I've just re-read this, it says all flights will no longer arrive into TBIT and arrive into T5. However in the past after landing at TBIT the flights would depart from T3 (or is it T2?). Are flights departing and arriving form Delta's T5, or just arriving?

I may be asking the obvious question here.

I thought they were still departing from T3, and I managed to find something that suggests this is correct:

V Australia flight numbers VA 1 - VA 199 arrive at Terminal 5, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and depart from Terminal 3, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

If they depart from a different terminal that kind of defeats the purpose of having Delta connections and codeshares! No point having it all connect up seamlessly in one direction but not the other!

I think previously they departed from T3 - same as Virgin America anyway.

It just means you still have to go to T3, which isn't a very good terminal, and have to still use the Alaska Airlines Lounge!

Would have been nice if flights departed from T5 as well, so you can use one of the better Delta lounges. But it's a start!

Not only is the fact that T3 is a rubbish terminal, but changing terminals is a pain as well.

Virgin Airlines (Atlantic, Australia, America) are looking into building a LAX clubhouse which will be at terminal 3.

That would be awesome. But still arriving at one terminal to connect to Delta, but then not having the same connections at the other end is a bit silly.

At Terminal Three? They'd have to get Alaska Airlines to move out and give the terminal a fairly large revamp. I can't think of a place where they could fit a Clubhouse, the existing space for the Alaska Airlines lounge is very small.

Travelling from Australia to the United States of America is about to reach a new level of convenience with the beginning of V Australia’s expanded partnership with Delta Air Lines, this Sunday 6th of November 2011.

This means that from Sunday, there will be a greater variety of arrival and departure times to choose from when arranging trans-Pacific travel. For members of Virgin Australia’s loyalty program Velocity, it also means more opportunities to accrue frequent flyer points and access premium lounges.

What’s more, from Sunday all V Australia flights to Los Angeles will arrive at Delta’s T5 terminal at Los Angeles International Airport. This will allow for easier and faster connections within the same terminal to Delta’s network as well as access to new customs and immigration facilities in the T5 terminal.

To celebrate this convenience and more options for your travel with us, V Australia and Delta Air Lines, are giving members of the Australian Frequent Flyer community the opportunity to win 1 x return Business Class ticket to New York and to report back on their trip to the Australian Frequent Flyer community.

That's right, we are asking one of the AFF collective to fly, Business Class to LA with V Australia, experience the new T5 Delta terminal and then fly either First or Business Class with our alliance partner Delta onto New York.

"Why would they give away a flight just cause they changed terminals?" we hear you ask?

Well, frankly, who better than an Australian frequent flyer to experience the change in flying conditions and report back to the AFF community?

This terminal change is just another move that we have brought about this year designed to make the flying experience easier for the frequent flyer. Much like our other time saving initiatives, and as such to enter, tell us in 100 words or less:
Of all the time-saving processes Virgin Australia has implemented this year, which has saved you the most time and why?

Entries will be judged on writing skills as well as product knowledge. Also you will have to be a AFF member to be eligible.

To enter and for more details, visit the competition website here

We are pretty excited to offer up the opportunity to you all. :D

Thanks again for your support.

Note: The prize doesn't include accommodation, so the winner will have flexibility to stay in the US as long as they like, with the travel period being 15 Jan 2012 – 15 Apr 2012.

Note: We have contacted the AFF, and they have approved this post. The Australian Frequent Flyer has no financial interest in this offer and will not be involved in the invitee selection process.

Great. Now can you get that atrocious, appalling, unnavigable and largely dysfunctional website of yours working please.:(

Terrific competition! Thanks VA!

I had a great experience with Virgin America LAX-JFK return earlier this year so would love the opportunity to try Delta on the same route!

You are correct in that LAX arrivals are now into T5, while LAX departures are still from T3.
April 2012 we will be making the full transition to T5 whereby arrivals AND departures will be from the same terminal.

Regarding Lounge access, Velocity Gold and Platinum Guests plus those flying J class on either VA*DL services will have access to Delta's SkyClub in LAX's Terminal 5 - more infor on SkyClub can be found at Deltas website here .
If departing LAX, VA operated services will continue to access the Alaskan Boardroom in Terminal 3, until the move.

Off topic, but feel free to PM what you would like to see done.

Thanks for the update Virgin Australia, I don't think many of us are a fan of T3 (Aka T3rdWorld), so it will be a significant improvement to see flights Ex LAX to be out of T5. Espically when it comes to lounge access!

Whilst I'd love to think that I'd win, my ability to take the flights (with a wife, 2 kids and a business to run) are almost non-existent, so I'll bow out and increase the odds for everybody else.

Thanks for the update on the T5/T3 situation.

Also a lot of people get it wrong but the wording is Alaska Airlines Board room, There is no n in Alaska Airlines.
