I'm wondering what the situation is with TID annual-multi-trip coverage, and if a delay on one flight makes you miss a flight (on a different PNR) you're connecting with and where the airline just say "too bad" and you need to get a new ticket for that flight. e.g. VA29 SYD-AUH, connecting to EY AUH-CDG, I'm taking the second leg on points and they won't/can't put the flights onto one ticket.

My travel agent wouldn't book me JQ and AY on separate tickets (DRW-SIN-HEL) as the turnaround in SIN was too small. The general rule there was 3 hours fat if not the same PNR. However, talk to the insurer. Their rules may be different.

Any better TID codes than the usual TIDTHANKS for family multi travel policy inc snowsports? needed before departure on 24 Jan 2014. I didn't see the usual XMAS spirit this year and TIDFAF doesn't give as large a discount. Any help greatly received

Not knowing what costs you have already occurred, but waiting to take your insurance out till just before you depart, means that you are foregoing one of TI's significant benefits - which is if you have to cancel your trip for a reason covered by TI.

ie in My case I had a major European trip all arranged two years back, and my wife had a major accident which prevented her from flying for 6 months. If I had waited till near departure to activate my TI, I would have been out of pocket for quite a substantive sum.

IMO as soon as one starts paying any significant amounts, one should make sure that you have activated travel insurance. This is why policies that you pay for ask for your departure date.

In my case as I redeem virtually all international flights a year out which are cancel-able for only a minor fee, I tend to activate my insurance as soon as I start committing to other expenses such as trains, local flights, tours, accommodation etc.
sometimes this is paid insurance, and sometimes it is credit card insurance.

Completely understand but so far outlay is minimal and refundable. SQ redemption flights so all taxes and points are refundable if cancelled ( I think small cancel fee). Accommodation is at a friends apartment in the Alps so no cost there either:). Its a boys trip and another member of the party has sorted the hire car from GVA to the French Alps. Normally I insure from day 1 but seeing as this is a years policy I thought I would leave start date til later. Just thought TID would have the usual XMAS discount code but nothing seemed to be released this year

TID have a new discount offer for existing customers - it's working out to 10% for me.
You need to log in to their portal as an existing customer (you can create an account if need be, using your old policy as the ID to start). It discounts the annual policy to $395.10 for me.

There is a code given (I can see it in the URL) but I am not sure if it's unique so won't post it.

Looking around for travel insurance now, just wondering do people on here just use TID because of the price or are they good as well?

First time policy holder with TID - price, cover, T&C, reputation is why I went with them.

Just be careful, TID specifically exclude off piste cover for skiing which can be an expensive problem!

Who doesn't, and who do you use for your ski cover?

I imagine if I'm close enough to the slope, I will have "fallen down an embankment accidentally" for now ;)

I got a cheaper deal yesterday for comprehensive single trip insurance with Worldcare Travel Insurance than with TID inc. discount.

AAMI doesn't exclude it, https://ouch.com.au/ (backed by QBE) includes it if you take on their ski cover, but the one I have been using is Travel Insurance | Cheap Online Travel Insurance Australia which specifically lets you select off piste cover. It totally depends what and where you ski if this applies to you but it you head somewhere like Japan anything out the gates or past ropes is off-piste and you generally won't be covered by most polices taken out by people.

I've always wondered what they cover as off piste. Out the gates at niseko is obvious, but what about the ungrounded territory between runs that is unroped?

Next Japan trip will need specific cover because I plan on doing some cat skiing and off the summit/gates etc.
