It's the USA that puts it thru the roof I think?
Your not going to USA to get QBE under $200?
When is TID releasing the XMAS spirit code......Now would be good guys!

I just purchased an annual policy using the 30% off policy JohnK provided above with QBE. It was cheaper than TID (who I have used before) with similar benefits.

QBE have never met their time frames for paying claims IMHO, next insurance for me will be TID.

You are quite right. The USA and buying out the excess kills the QBE policy for Worldwide cover.

Still the QBE policy is extremely cheap for my SE Asian visits and I can spend 72 hours in the USA.

Well before you guys all wrote today I rang TID for new codes...NOPE December they will come :(
Booked my Annual with TIDTHANKS....$20 off
10% increase on $312 premium last year.

Got bumped off flight due to cargo issues from LAX to Australia.
Have TID annual policy with nil excess.
Anyone claimed on this?
Can I claim HOTEL and food costs?
Can I claim day lounge pass at LAX?
Booked on flight today.

Who bumped you and what was the reason given?
Did you volunteer?
Was the air freight a load of cherries?

Didn't airline provide accommodation and meals? I somehow dont think travel insurance is going to pay for a lounge pass.

I claimed a number of years ago for damaged bag and clothes due to delayed luggage. They did reject some things such as phone cards as I could not charge my mobile. The claims process was very efficient.

Travel insurance will pay for loss and normal costs of flight disruptions if not provided by the airlines (hotel/food). They won't pay for add ons you might want.

Was there a discussion or agreement on compo or was it a summarily orchestrated event?

Since this is a TID thread, I'll post this here. I just went to renew my TID annual multi-trip policy and I was surprised by the hike from last year. Last year I paid $390 which included snow sports. This year it's $455 excluding snow sports (with snowsports and TIDThanks was $627.90. What's with the 60% increase? I wondered if my age had crept into a new bracket so tried the quote with my age last year and exactly the same price came up.

Looks like I might be shopping around.

Depending on how good a coverage you want, don't forget the option of "buying" you travel insurance for a trip or trips by taking out a credit card that has "ok" travel insurance after purchase of say $250/500 (perhaps per person) of travel costs.

With joining bonus points, you may also find this cost is offset or, even in profit, after the yearly fee cost.

Note that the ANZ Plat Card is currently free for the first year (= free travel insurance). So if this coverage suits you, it is a bargain.

Overseas travel and medical insurance Master Policy is underwritten by QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited, ABN 78 003 191 035, AFSL No. 239545. Terms, conditions, eligibility criteria, limits and exclusions apply. To activate cover under the overseas travel and medical insurance Master Policy, you must meet the eligibility criteria: you must be a permanent resident of Australia, have debited at least $250 worth of eligible overseas travel arrangements to your Platinum card account prior to departing Australia, have a current Platinum card account at the date of any claimable event, have a return ticket to Australia and be 80 years of age or under. Please refer to the ANZ Platinum Cards Insurance booklet (PDF 680kB)

Without reading into it too far, those terms you posted make it look like it's for foreign travel only. A fair chunk of our travel is domestic where we want hire car excess reduction as a definite and coverage for the family. My own O/S travel is covered by a separate and extensive group policy.

I just heard of a 15% discount on Worldwide multi trip cover w' Worldcare.com.au. I have used them the last few trips and not probs so far (not that I have made any claims ;)), underwritten by Alliance. Have a look on line and then call them on 1800 008 614 and mention that you'd like the Sc**pon deal.

The first sales assistant offered me a 10% discount, so I went away to look into it further and then called back as I had more q's and then got a different assistant and asked for the Sc**pon 15% again and got it no trouble.

The snowsports with TID cannot be beaten from a comprehensive perspective from what I have found so far. They seem to be the only company that covers breakages to equipment - not that I've broken anything. However, if you are not worried about breakages equipment loss, I'd be looking at Allianz (e.g. Virgin Australia), who only cover breakages when not in use (i.e. while in the plane).
I would have had to claim last year - my 3yo son/ski school lost his skis in Obertauern last year - thankfully the ski-school and rental company were the same, and we were helping with parenting of our hotel's 3yo son, whose parents were their landlord. Needless to say, no claim needed.
