Anyone claimed TID?
What is the process?
My phone stopped working on second day of trip...completely dead.
Thought battery so week passed before I got it.
Not battery.
Thought credit card may cover...not purchased Australia.
So do I call them before I get back or when I get back?
Phone is year 1&1\2 old.
Will I get it repaired\replaced or original money PAID for phone back?
I'm up for $100 excess :(

EDIT: IS the following correct??????

My phone stopped working on second day of trip...completely dead.
They'll try as hard as possible to get out of that one.Personally it's not worth claiming and why I take an older, disposable phone on holiday with me.Phone is year 1&1\2 old.First off, they'll claim depreciation, which will be in excess of 50% of it's value for a phone that age. After that, they'll try to claim it was intentional damage (I.E. your fault). Then they'll point out you didn't specifically insure the phone.Had mates claim (with Mondial), an utter nightmare so I'm glad I've never have had to do it myself. Will I get it repaired\replaced or original money back?New for old, doubt it. As for money back, you'll never get the full amount due to depreciation. If you do make a claim, you should ready yourself for a fight.

Re: Travel Insurance Direct Discount Offer

Update on claim.....
Informed they are paying out after taking 37.5% depreciation?
Is that normal for phone purchased June 2010?

For tax purposes an office computer has a 3 year depreciated life. I reckon you are lucky the insurance company have allowed you something close to this.

You just alerted me to that it is only 6 months out of warranty(1 year)
So really I could go the 6 months angle?

I wouldn't think so. If your phone lasts 1 year and 1 month and then dies, is it still an almost new phone? My answer is it is a dead phone, full stop. The phone was 18 months old at time of claim, I think the insurance company has been rather generous.

I forgot to mention aswell as the 37.5% they took their $100 claim fee on top.....not so generous hey?

You mean $100 excess, which is clearly documented in their brochure and PDS?
Stop being unreasonable. They paid out exactly as the policy stated.

Where in the policy does it say 37% of the price of phone?

I think you have done extraordinarily well from your claim. If you had traded-in or sold your phone I doubt you would have received as much. It would be prudent to drop the topic now.

Re: Travel Insurance Direct Discount Offer

Trying to work out if should accept first offer or counter offer them.
Has anyone one on here done that and is it a myth(business tale) that you should accept first offer....as they can do better...just know body asks??

You can try.

You need to ask yourself some questions ...

1 .What disadvantage to you may happen if you counter offer? (might you be worse off?)
2 .How much effort would be involved?
3 .What advantage may you get from doing so
4 .It it really worth the effort?
5 . In the words of Dirty Harry, "How Lucky do you feel?"!

It probably does talk about depreciation somewhere in the policy. IME, travel insurance policies are not new for old policies (although they may exist!)

If it is a Lloyds (new) policy, section 24 of the PDS...
We are entitled to choose between repairing or replacing the property or paying you its value in cash after allowing for wear, tear and depreciation. Any payment, however, will not exceed the original cost of the item.

If it is a pre-December 16 (Allianz) policy, section 4.1 of the PDS
We will pay you for each of the following:
1. Accidental loss, theft of, or damage to your Luggage and Personal Effects including things you buy during the Trip, whilst they are accompanying you. We are entitled to choose between repairing, replacing the property, or paying you its value in cash, after allowing for wear, tear anddepreciation. Any payment however will not exceed the original cost of the item.

Don't people read PDS' before buying financial services products?

As others have stated, 37% depreciation is probably very fair. Trying to sell a phone of that age would probably see a greater depreciation than that.

Re: Travel Insurance Direct Discount Offer

Not this phone NEXUS ONE!
People still rave about it and says it does\has and performs better than the latest phones!
Not to mention HOLD its value....cause you cannot get it!
20% I can see as fair and will be contacting them about it!

Take the money, especially as the phone is only dead.

(Expect insurance to sting you, as they are the target of fraudsters too, AND have no provisions for 'upright' members of the community whose risk levels are smaller than most).

While you probably can't get it repaired in Australia, affordably, board level repairs are done in
Thailand, Vn, India at really 'doable' rates, by highly competent people - if you find the 'phone shop' areas. and I know they know more tricks than the official service centres. Unlocking and changing IMEI and more.

I put it you that those on the ship that got sank, may have trouble claiming. I was told a 'cruise ship' was a 'public place' therefore nada payable . I guess they will apply this to an Airport and a A380 should you loose anything there too.

Re: Travel Insurance Direct Discount Offer

Right so I got an email about feedback and informed them of my UNSATISFACTORY experience from purchasing to claiming....I'll let you know if I get a reply.

Has anyone made a claim now Lloyds is underwriting?
Other than the above post any further differences?

EDIT: Provided feedback and got a VERY IMPRESSIVE RESULT!

Could you please share with the forum? We have read the negative, it would be good to balance with the positive.
