I once bought myself a birthday pressie from Tiffanys on 5th Ave (grandma gave me birthday money), and they were nice enough to pop a little birthday card in the bag.
Oooh, I can but dream, besides I have such a poor track record with jewellery and earrings in particular, I fear it might be the waste of a lot of money :(

You were wearing these on Saturday, weren't you? I remember thinking that they looked lovely.

We saw them on Saturday at the BNE QC, hvr. Look very nice on (her, not me :D)
Thank you.

One day I hope someone will take me to the diamond ring counter and say 'pick one'. I did see that in a movie once, but can't for the life of me remember.

Oh, I did do that to my friend a couple of years earlier - except it was in a bookshop whilst she was a poor student. So I guess this was payback!

I know we have a lot of cricket fans on here, so they might find this interesting - it was in an email I received today as a supporter of Batting for Change.

Dear Flying Mermaid

You’ve probably seen in the headlines that Batting for Change Ambassador Stephen O’Keefe starred with a match-winning 12 wickets in Australia’s thrilling first Test against India! We’re pleased about Steve’s bowling success, but we’re also very proud of what he does to connect with and inspire disadvantaged young women whose dream is to complete a university education. Before the first Test, Steve took time out to visit the SPN Doshi Women’s College in Mumbai, where Batting for Change supports the education of 1000 disadvantaged students. Below is Steve’s touching account of his visit.

"Last week I had the privilege of visiting SPN Doshi Women’s College in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, due to the fortunate circumstances of the Australian touring team playing a warm up game in Mumbai. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Meena who is the head of the college and she explained to me that her grandfather had started the college. In its beginnings the college had only 7 students, now that number is well over 7000.
After some coffee and samosas, Meena took me to one of the classrooms where I was greeted by well over 100 students and beneficiaries of the Batting for Change/LBW Trust scholarship. One by one the young women got up and explained their stories in English and in Hindi. The women described what education and the scholarship meant to them. They dream of being professors, animators, school teachers, accountants, lawyers and nurses. This in itself took a lot of courage, and it was the women’s resilience and gratitude that resonated most. Some were brought to tears, as was I, as they explained that due to financial and other difficulties at home most of them would not have access to fulfil their dreams if not for these scholarships. Some had sick parents or family members, some had parents who had passed away and some girls worked full time outside of their studying commitments just to provide for their families and themselves.
I was moved and inspired to say the least. Seeing first hand the difference that everyone in the BFC family is making to these young women's future and the power of education made me realise just how important the work is that we are doing and will continue to do. We are all changing lives and I couldn't be prouder to be a part of BFC."

Over a Dozen recent posts here have been removed as they were conflicting or unhelpful or even "ONTopic"..

This thread is over a decade old, predating the "Playground"; it has been a venue for random discussion and it has continued to be so.

Over the years, sometimes a theme would develop in a series of posts and the moderation team have found a need to hive them off to their own thread. The "... moggies .." thread had its origins here.

I suggest a revisit to post #1 may be found interesting; maybe a reading of the first 500 posts even better.

Cheers ...

500 posts? Folks were already "in trouble" ;) on the first page - for being ONTopic... or OFFTopic... or something...
Women throwing their underwear may have had something to do with it. :D

My only claim to being a Tiffany snob is Ive been to 5th Ave, NY and hubby bought me and our only niece gifts from there.

So now, anytime I see a Tiffany and go; Honey, look. Tiffanys!. He says, "We've been to 5th Ave, Im not going to any other store.

:D I did the exact same thing - bought my only niece something from Tiffany on 5th Avenue!

Team building. Utter garbage.

BEST, best EVER team building exercise we did was paintball.

A very opinionated boss thought it would be a great idea.

He was right just, not in the way he envisaged.

We had three 'games' with the teams rearranged each game. So everyone got a shot....

It is amazing how big a bruise you can get/give with paintball if you target the same area repeatedly.

His PA was never seen smiling so much. Seems she made a mistake at the beginning as they were walking out while walking behind him...

She swore it was a mistake!

Not team building more work social event - we did a cross between a scavenger hunt and the amazing race. Was lots of fun and even better my team came third and we were short two team members.
