Hopefully scheduling will have put the right planes in the right places by then JohnK. I presume there were a couple of cancellations and a lot of diversions into/out of BNE last night.
Yes I didn't think about that. Some cancellations and a lot of delays.

Looks OK today.

James Street, Fortitude Valley is awash with green waste (between McLaughlin and Robertson) and the blowers are out in force cleaning up.

Wouldn't the police dispense with the Green Party rather than let the council clean them up?

Wonder whether his organs were donated or not....
I think nearly all the medics like us are.
On the surface these patients are often suitable for organ donation but sadly only about half of those patients end up being multi-organ donors for a variety of reasons.
I have made sure that my family know my wishes to be an organ donor in the event of my death and I wouldn't hesitate if asked for consent on behalf of a family member.

I have my Australian Organ Donor Register card in my wallet, so hope they'd find it (if I couldn't tell them). Similarly, my family is well aware of my request.

What a shame,, and what a sign of respect for "the leave your bat out" movement. Even a titan like Google has the respect to honor such a tragedy

Re: Phil hughes

Much said on this over the past few days in the "Off Topic" thread in Playground, so I'll put this post with them.

We were deeply saddened by the tragic news, and also honoured Phillip Hughes in this way earlier today (see attached image posted to our Twitter account @qantas, with #putoutyourbats).

On a personal note, I encourage you to share your support and do the same where possible.

Just dropped a child off to the big day of fun after school. They asked me to put a warning wristband to notify of her allergy to penicillin. Now I didn't argue with the volunteer. But this seems completely pointless. It's a 2 hour event, is there any circumstance in 2 hours that would require emergency, life saving application of penicillin?

99% of the time you would certainly expect (hope) not. The only exception I could imagine (and may be wrong about) is if a needle from syringe was in the area and they got pricked. Apart from that no idea.

It's called CYA. It's obviously on a check list somewhere. And for a 2 hour event you'd hope they'd contact you first anyway.

I guess I'm more thinking about how penicillin is slow acting and takes an extended course to be effective. It not like ventolin or something like that, that needs to be given quickly to quickly save a life. Anyway, it doesn't hurt.....

Edit: and this just in from SWMBO: "Considering this is Anna we are talking about I would never say never" :D :D

What's going on in SYD today? We have been told runway damage and down to 1 runway only. Flights delayed ~1 hour.

So much for getting to airport early and getting on earlier flight.

P.S. There was one seat left on much earlier flight. Would you take it not knowing which seat would be drawn in lottery? I chose the flight after.

34L has had a pavement failure so they are using 07 for arrivals and departures.

With that information it meant he really had no chance of surviving.the vertebral ateries supply the brainstem and the posterior portion of the brain.Basically all the automatic functions are in the brain stem-breathing,pulse and blood pressure. Also being a subarachnoid haemorrhage means cerebral tissue is destroyed.
The more common injury when hit behind the ear is rupture of a meningeal artery causing an extradural haemorrhage. The bleeding is outside the brain so relieving the pressure by removing the blood often results in a good recovery.

And to be honest, life quality probably wouldn't have been that good if he had. My grandma suffered a bleed on the brain after a fall, and they weren't able to operate immediately due to blood thinners she was on. She has a permanent brain injury as a result which has left her in the dementia unit of a nursing home.

Sounds like my wife was rather lucky then to have made such a full recovery. I'm sure when she had her stroke and the bleed on the brain it was something along the lines of a vertebral artery dissection. Can confirm if the resident medicos on here are interested.
