Walk to river - city cat
The first stop after the Regatta is North Quay 2?

It's only to toowong. Used to walk to Tarragindi in an hour or two.
I wish I had your energy.

I walked down 320 steps in the fire escape and then to bus stop. Then I walked from the Brewery home and my foot is still aching. Throbbing madly.

At least you're home - there are still people getting home.

I've got 6 towels worth of water out of our bedroom carpet. Need some fresh dry towels.

Still work in the city? I thought you'd go towards the regatta from eagle st pier perhaps.

That walk was many years ago, when I was in training. I think I had to do 15 km in 2.5 hours carrying 30 kg or something like that. These days would be about 4 or 5 hours.

Queensland humid one day, cyclonic the next.

lol, I believe it would be anti-cyclonic. (being a high pressure system).

Had that many years ago as a child when living at Caloundra. A very cyclone like storm hit causing much destruction. When people started asking about the cyclone warnings, the official response was "it was an anti-cyclone so no cyclone warning".

Useful trick using osmosis. If you have a window, a good long length of plastic and an old bed sheet.

You place the plastic over the window sill so it is partly outside and also covers the entire inside wall down to the carpet (so you don't get water on the wall). You use an old sheet folded over several times to make a long narrow 'plank-like' length.

First of all you use it to soak up as much water as it will hold.

Then once it is really damp and quite evenly spread along its entire length you place one end on the wet carpet for at least a couple of feet and then up over the plastic sheet (protecting the wall), out the window and hanging down the outside wall (also at least partially shielded by the plastic but only partially) to a level below the floor level inside.

You have created an 'osmosis' siphon. As the drop outside is lower than inside you create a quasi-siphon effect. Any breeze outside also helps wick away some of the moisture. As the degree of dampness decreases outside then it wicks up more moisture from the inside length. The trick is to have the folded over portions very flat to each other so there are no air gaps.

Polyester sheets do not work - you need 100% cotton btw. It is a fiddly way but it does work and I like things that work without me lifting a finger!

Here is an easy to understand version!

Looks like we got the vast majority then. There was a cell that went up to Gympie and Imbil, missing most of the coast.

Bed time - on our fold out bed. Should me an interesting sleep (or lack thereof)

I take it sleeping with the kids was out of the question?

Sleeping with children is just about always out of the question. There is a window of about 2.67 months when they are big enough to not worry about rolling over and crushing them, but not big enough to completely take over the bed. Last time we had a child in bed with us, I woke up with a massively sore kidney. Found a head jammed into said kidney, with the legs draped over SWMBO. It seems cute, but it is just a nightmare.

Long pillows between people helps alleviate that.

Besides, adults in the same bed can be rather precarious for comfort in other ways. It might not be a head in the kidneys, but...

It's particularly apparent when you have one person who is used to sleeping in a single bed, with another who is used to sleeping in a double bed.

It is quite strange looking out the window and seeing darkness. A lot of homes must still be without power.

Walking was a must for anyone within 5kms of CBD - it would have been easier and probably quicker.

No reports of State High damage anat0l. But given Sommerville House is nearby, expect smashed windows at least.

The roof partially came off All Hallows' main building. School now finished for them, as tomorrow was the last day.

I arrived home 15 mins ago - took me 1hr and the last 20 mins was from entering M7 tunnel at Bowen Hills to home. It took 40 mins to go the first 3 kms

Stuff having a glass of wine - I'm finishing the bottle. Our bedroom windows were open and our bed is drenched - looks like it's a night on the futon

Gee, do places in Australia come up with any original names?!

Seems our kids both learnt the same technique
