The great hand luggage only challenge!!!

One downside to hand luggage only is that your hand luggage can get quite full and things could fall out like your new Tag Heuer sunglasses on a flight from DRW-ADl-SYD :(
Funny you should say that, my new Raybans fell out of my backpack in the cab on the way home from the airport. I did not realise until about an hour after I got home. Rang the taxi company (had the driver # on the receipt) who contacted the driver.

The driver had seen them and returned them to the house. I must have been in the shower when he rang the door bell, however they were there on the front door mat.

That's my feel good story for the day. :D

Prescription lenses, nice form, match my watch. And yes over $100 - considerably. As discussed earlier in this thread - people make different decisions about clothes/fashions/consumer products. I don't need to have the most fashionable clothes and change with the seasons - in fact I avoid "trendy" brands for more classic brands. In the same way that some people spend money on fine wines or single malts - they do not do much different to a bourbon and some cask red. We all appreciate things differently. I perhaps should be less cavalier with my possessions or take cheaper possesions with me.

I took prescription reading glasses on a plane last year - sat down and heard the crunching noise as I stood on them after they fell out of my pocket as I sat down. Now I only travel with $25 reading glasses. I can sympathize.

I'd never heard of Tag Heuer so I googled it. Couldn't find prices, but I suspect you pay something like $100+ for sunglasses. I just shove my $20 pair in a shoe in my hand luggage. Just for interest, what do your glasses do that mine won't do?

Well my $250 glasses will fit under my helmet when riding my motorbike very comfortably as opposed to my $90 glasses which wont, and which are also polarised, making it very hard to see through my visor when the sunlight hits directly.....
Also the more expensive ones have a lens which is glass and are less likely to fog up...

I also am a name brand sorta guy, but have learnt over my years of travel that an expensive pair of pants will take longer to crush, and a good quality cotton business shirt (Ralph Lauren et al) will iron much quicker and stay sharper longer.
I have three Zegna suits that are in excellent shape after 5-7 years and a cheaper Boss suit that is looking bad after 2-3....

The price of the Zegna suits was double that of the Boss, but they seem to last over twice as long...

YMMV.

Cheers

OT: A bit

For me, sunglasses MUST be polarized. So, due to licensing costs, this takes the minimum price out to ~$45 and which is also about the maximum I would ever pay. So that's the maximum cost should I lose/break a pair.

I view umbrellas similarly; it's costs $2 to lose/break a $2 umbrella - it costs $35 to lose/break a $35 umbrella.

I will second that! Mine are still looking great, some recent, some 3-4 yrs and even the ones 9-10 yrs old are still draping well and in excellent shape. I will also add in and say the same about shoes. The expensive well built shoes will last more than twice as long than those of a cheaper kind!

My problem at the moment is not so much the longevity of my suits, more that I am outgrowing them...

Oh oh! time to enrol at the local gym:!: :D
Gym membership ended with the arrival of mini-Shano. While it is impossible to lead a sedentary lifestyle with an 18 month old, there has been a gradual progression in the releasing of the belt buckle over that time.

I'm with you Serfty, but you can get polarized sunnies cheaper than that. Mine are polarised and only cost $30 - Aerial brand from a servo. They do have a lot of naf frame designs, so it might take a couple of servos before you can find a style you like, but they work for me. Mrs Dot is also a recent convert to polarized lenses (esp when driving) and she also found frames that she was happy with in the Arial range.

I'd be demanding an instant refund...imagine that, selling suits that shrink!! :D

Especially a good idea when with Qantas Jets in WHY Domestically, you can have 2 x 7 Kg Bags. - Luxury ... ;)

Alas, I already have two bags - laptop and QF Plat bag (client files, etc). So I just will have to squeeze in shirts, singlet & briefs into it somewhere. I'm fine with wearing same socks and shoes for a couple of days.

Yes - things get left behind - I once found a wallet in a Melbourne hotel room - hidden in the yellow pages under "Escort agencies" (right next to "Erection engineers). Of course I wasn't looking there - the phone book opened here because of the wallet. Sorry - getting OTT.
