Thankfully he does not have kids yet

"Hey, Honey, where did I leave simongr Jr? I am sure I put him down just over there? Hmm, maybe not. What is the phone number of the taxi company? Does this airport have a lost property desk?"

I am thinking a combination RFID tags and a GPS tracker for kids. The dogs at least come when I call...

Where are your priorities - what about the sunglasses - if they're that expensive, shouldn't they come with a GPS tracker?

Put the kids in the Tumi - he will never foget them then ;)

They were cross because you lost them, or did you mistreat them before that? :p

PS. I do know the brand ;)

I want to join the 'legends' who can fit 2 weeks worth of clothes into a carryon for their travels. Qantas has such limited cabin baggage weight restrictions that this makes it very hard if travelling with them.
I have never been anywhere near the weight limit - don't even consider it. I'm assuming you're flying business or first. However, I agree with Evan - the problem is the suits - get rid of them. It's years since I've travelled with a suit or tie. I see that simongr travels in Asia where they have this idea that a piece of cloth dangling around the neck is of some importance. Unless you're going into a cold climate, and expect to spend time outdoors, there's no practical reason for a suit. Leave it at home. I can't imagine 4 polo shirts, 3 business shirts and 2 suits - I don't even own all these (only own one suit and no polo shirts). I've forgotten what a Chino is - I remember asking this before and someone told me - poofter pants I think. Why would you want two suits? I'd go for two business shirts, no suit, two trousers (one worn on the plane with a casual shirt) and a pullover if it's cold. Wash your socks and underwear each night and boost the drying with the hair dryier in the room if needed. Wet undies and socks is no big deal - they dry with body heat. On the suits, I find that it's rarely needed now. However, I'm an engineer living in the practical world - it depends on whether looking pretty is more important than sounding pretty. The point is, do you really need a suit? I always Email my clients to ask if it's acceptable for me not to wear a suit and tie.

NH has good advice. I travelled for a week with lost luggage - business meetings in runners and jeans. Everyone understood what lost luggage meant. I still won the contract.

Serfty mentioned that you don't use the little bottles on your hair - hopefully not serious. I hope you don't waste space with you own soap and shampoo. I haven't bought shampoo for years - still using all the bottles from my travels.

Also, get yourself to platinum level where you can do no wrong.

And footwear is of no importance. I love watching people in a suit and tie walking around bare footed or with sandals. Sort of defeats the purpose of dressing up.

I think you will find that Mal is QF Platinum.

You may all like to know that Qantas is cracking down on the amount of hand luggage you may bring on. If you bag is over the limit (7kg) or you have more bags than your entitled to there is a higher chance now you will be asked to check the bag in question in.

Great - I support this. I hate it when an economy passenger dumps a big bag in the business section, then takes a seat at the back of the plane, leaving me little room. I also get annoyed when I'm last to get on, and all the oversize luggage has taken all the space.

I just was asked if I might consider the possibility of a three month++ secondment to London - I dont think that will be hand luggage only ;)

C'mon - take on the challenge. Seriously, it's not a place you want to be this time of year. Hope it's not until about April.

I lived 8 or 9 months of 2007 in a hotel with only checked luggage (1 not too large bag), so 3 months with hand luggauge only should be do-able ;) Only kidding i know you need lots of suits, something i dont have to worry about working in Asia and Germany.

If I witness passengers from Y stowing their bags in C or F lockers, I inform a FA immediately. I have yet to see a FA shrug it off. I have seen a couple of "heated" conversations ensue as a result, but the staff have always prevailed in my experience.

Next time I see this, I'll certainly follow up immediately.

I need to compliment Jetstar! I am unsure if this is now a JQ policy, or just quality people in their service, but on a number of flights now -
  • on embarkation - the locker door above 1/2ABC has been shut, and on boarding I have opened it to find it empty and easily taking my carry-ons. (The FA checking boarding passes seems to be keeping an eye on it staying shut too.)
  • on disembarkation - as soon as the seat belt sign goes off, the FA asks if I have baggage in a locker behind me (I assume it is remembered that the front locker was already full when I boarded and tried to stuff in my bags), and he bolts back against the flow to get it for me.
I usually manage to nab 1A (or 1F, 2A) @ check-in on Jetstar, and am amongst the last to board (the best strategy if seated in 1ABC), and am very happy with this approach to their service.

OK we have a challenge to the hand luggage only challenge on my next DONE4 - I actually dont think it is practical :(

The problem is that I have multiple stops and periods with no access to laundry facilities (no jokes about back to front etc. underwear please). The itinerary is:

02 Mar SYD-HKG Conrad for 5 days
07 Mar HKG-NRT Overnight NRT hilton
08 Mar NRT-SIN Overnight SIN Hilton
09 Mar SIN-NRT-ORD-LGA Waldorf=Astoria overnight
10 Mar Princeton conference for 4 nights - no laundry facilities
14 Mar JFK-LHR-LCA with family for one night
17 Mar LCA-LHR-HKG-SYD Home finally

So basically the issue is from when I leave HKG on the Friday evening through to the following Saturday morning I wont have access to a lundry and have 9 nights. Fortunately on this trip I wont be taking any suits but will have a jacket (will wear that on the flight to HKG) as I reckon Princeton could be a little cool in March (there was snow on the ground last year).

The other complication is that I might be buying a laptop when I am in NYC so might have two laptops on the way home...

I think I might fail this challenge - but by the same token I seriously do not want to have to check luggage SIN-NRT-ORD-LGA...

I might be thinking about foregoing 16,731 AAdvantage miles (unless I do a day trip to SFO on the Sunday ;))

Simongr - no laundry is a problem for shirts. No problem for underwear and socks. As I've said before, just shower with them on, and hang them to dry overnoght, then a quick blast of the hair dryer if needed. Once family gets involved, the complications are too awesome to contemplate. You might lose this one. Glad you got rid of the suits for this one. I'm off to South America in a few weeks for two days - no question this is hand luggage only.
