The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

First doses for 50-54 is 60.2%.

First doses for 30-35 has reach 30.2%

VIC 70+ fully vaccinated has reached 50.02%. Only SA is yet to reach 50% fully vaccinated for 70+.

16-19 should reach 10% first dose when today's numbers are released tomorrow, so every age group 16+ will be past 10% first dose at that point.

What exactly do you expect to change once these magical base-10 thresholds are crossed?

Would we be fretting over completely different levels if our ancestors had said “Cough the thumbs, let’s count on our fingers only”?

People also need to check their data in Medicare online. My first dose wasn't recorded and I had to call the clinic. A friend & her husband who got their doses at one of the main hubs also had a stuff up with the recording of their vaccines that took many phone calls and days to correct. Note that all of the errors that I've been told about were about failures to record a vaccine rather than recording a phantom vaccine.
Same happened to me. My first dose was not recorded until I went back to GP’s office and enquired.

Maybe an early booster is in order? If they won’t recognise the overseas dose then surely they would allow another dose?
Almost tempted to do the same. Only half joking. Get some A.Zee as a booster for the Pfiiiiiizer course I completed in April.

From what I can tell overseas vaccination records rely on linkage to Medicare. Great plan ! NOT! Any Australian who has lived outside the country for >5 years does not (or at the least should not) have a Medicare card. I’d hazard a guess a good number of Australians vaccinated outside Australia probably live outside Australia too.

Would it be too hard to have an option of linking overseas vaccinations to your passport number instead of Medicare number? (Rhetorical question … of course it would be too hard).

And Dr FM had her first dose in London and second in Brisbane and apparently the computer system is refusing to allow overseas vaccinations to be loaded!
This is what concerns me. There doesn't appear to be any joined up thinking globally. I sort of understand because of the urgency but I do fear there might be a lack of recognition of vaccinations in other countries. I have had two AZ vaccinations in the UK, one of them manufactured in India (yes, that matters in some EU countries apparently 😞 ) but AZ is not recognised in the US. I have had the first of two Moderna vaccinations in the US, but I fear the flimsy card stamped by a pharmac_ will be laughed at when I need to use it for travel.

Passport numbers do not persist - they are only for the life of the passport (eg 10yrs).

People have been vaccinated here without a Medicare card, so there are mechanisms to accommodate a range of linkages.

We don't yet know if the overseas countries are willing and able to share vax data. But hopefully that will come to pass.

And this morning another state leader has come out and said snap lockdowns will happen after 80%…. Awesome.

Why haven’t the vulnerable been jabbed by the NT Gov already? They are all in 1A and 1B! This should have been done months ago…

NT may have higher COVID vaccine targets to avoid lockdowns

Mr Gunner said the NT could have different targets to the rest of Australia, due to its high Indigenous population (many of whom live in remote and regional locations) and younger age.

One interesting things was how much the doses in pharmacies kicked up in the last week.

This was mainly in NSW and Qld as the number of participating pharmacies in the other jurisdictions has so far been limited.
So there is great scope to have vaccination numbers greatly increase as more pharmacies join the program nationally including as of September when Moderna is rolled out through them as well as AZ.

Exclusive: Australia dipped into COVAX Pfizer stockpile intended for poor nations

Australia has raided 500,000 doses of Pfizer from a scheme set up to ensure poorer countries receive fair and equitable access to vaccines, as low and middle-income nations still wait for vaccines.

The Australian government in June purchased 25 million doses out of the global COVAX facility as it scrambled to source more supplies of the Pfizer vaccine and received about 500,000 doses from that order – double what the entire continent of Africa received under COVAX in the same month.

Some better news to wash away our poor morals!

Congrats to all my fellow younger Australians for actually going and doing something meaningful, don’t wait for the dawdling +40’s just push infront of them and get yourself jabbed!

More Than 130,000 Young Aussies Rolled Up For An AstraZeneca Vaccine Last Week

More than 130,000 young Aussies received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine last week, marking a huge surge in vaccination rates, with Victoria expanding access even further from Monday.

Between August 9 and August 15, a total of 130,820 people under 40 received their first dose of the AZ vaccine, with 2,928 entering the fully vaxxed league and getting their second jab.

It’s a new weekly record for young people taking up AstraZeneca, almost doubling on the previous week (77,975) and more than tripling the week before that (40,975).

Australia has donated far more than 500k AZ doses.

I am not sure of the total, buy AZ donations is in the millions. More than 500K has been donated to Fiji alone.

With Aussies too fussy, or prevented from getting AZ till recently, Seqirus was also allowed to sell AZ internationally (to countries in need) as what was being made in Australia was not being used.

It’s just a computer system glitch that needs to be programmed around I suspect. But yes at some point something needs to be done otherwise she won’t have anything saying she is fully vaccinated. Apparently a lot of the doctors who were in the UK last year and had a first dose before returning to Aus are in the same boat :)

Well that’s old news - they announced ages ago they were getting 500,000 doses of Pfizer from Covax and immediately gave millions of AZ to Fiji and Indonesia.
