I've been invited to Monday, but am on a QF flight from OOL-SYD at that time. I've gone back to Red Roo, and they are waiting to confirm availability of spots for Tuesday yet.

Murphy's law in play. Received possibly a 3rd or 4th round invite to tonight's session on one of the rare weeks I'm not in Sydney on Monday. :(

C'est la vie

God to meet you fellow mondayians. For everyone else, we have signed NDAs so can't talk about what happened, but it's good to see QFF taking time to listen to members feedback :)

Agreed. Was quite a small group, and the talk was definitely heating up.

A NDA? Really? So you can't tell us the ages of the work experience interns that actually are responsible for QF IT?

That's a shame.

A NDA. Really? So you can't tell us how any of you mentioned that when they do a web site re-vamp, its probably a good idea to have the "Book business" link working before making it public? Such secrets!

Too bad.

A NDA. Really? They ask you to give up your time, to help them, then put a NDA in front of you?

That's gratitude for you.

A NDA. Really? You must have been talking really secret stuff - like "What's the procedure for getting a new web page proof read before we make it live?".

I can see why that's confidential.

A NDA. Really? Did you put any IP caveats or ownership on what you contributed?

Last time I went to an invited evening session to help QF out (re design of their lounges ... it was a while ago!) at least we got $100 in cash in an envelope waiting for us at the door. At least tell me they paid you something for your time?

Whoa! - tell us what you really think RF! But I must say I agree that a NDA sounds like a cartload of cr@p. Is the world going nuts, or what :rolleyes:.

Pretty common to be honest. NDAs and CAs for everything. Generally barely enforceable and difficult to prove damages

So...what's the point :rolleyes:. Lawyers - like HR (called 'staff clerks' in my day ;)) - justifying their own existence and inflated sense of importance?

Well, I'd guess that are trying out a new idea and they don't want details leaking to the competition. Putting aside enforceability an NDA seems reasonable to me.

[grumpy old guy] If they are trying something new, (ie an application, web site, etc) I would think the focus group should be the least tech savvy of us! But if they are asking for tech input from the groups, then personally I'd want to protect my IP by getting them to sign my document saying that participation does not transfer any of my IP to Qantas. If they didn't like that, I'd suggest that they do the usual thing and go out and pay for these services. [/grumpy old guy]

I'll have to go to more social events to find out how ridiculous a NDA in this circumstance is (of course I'm only talking about the NDA, not the session content :) )

One could argue that the payment of 10,000 QF points entitles QF to use any IP generated at the events, since technically that would make each person there a paid consultant. Of course what might be interesting is if the taxman takes the same view.
In the contracts we have with our contractors, we put in an NDA as a standard part of that contract, we also put in that anything created in the natural course of the work belongs to us.

The worst that I've seen is a contract (for a very large company) which attempted to take ownership of any idea past, present or future from their contractors in the mistaken belief that if you had an idea you must have used the resources of this company in some way no matter how small (eg a thought about the idea must have entered your head on company time at least once).
