SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I thought you were a PH Rare kind of man? I honestly prefer it to the 2009 Dom, although maybe the 2009 will grow on me with age.

Was the Krug on the flight NV or the 2002(?)

I am indeed a PH lover but TBH I was feeling so off colour this morn I just went with what was on offer in TPR

Onboard this:

And this onboard as well:

They had PH Rare in the F lounge bar when I went thru a few weeks back
Yes you can order PH from F no problem - but not for me this morn

There was info posted elsewhere on AFF re Cabin Crew using personal phones during flts - I thought I would clarify SQ’s position with IFM on 802 couple days back.

SQ Crew Members are indeed openly permitted to use personal phones / tablets in flt with a couple restrictions only.

Firstly ALL phones must be immediately switched to flt mode on entering aircraft - Crew actively encouraged to remind each other to do so but really it becomes second nature to them.

All crew are involved in ongoing training and refresher courses and most use their phones to take notes / create reminders etc during these courses - they may refer to their phones any time during flt if info being accessed is pertinent to their work activities

Crew also have rest breaks during flts and may access / use / play with their phones during breaks - this is usually out of sight of any pax vision. You know what kids are like - 100s if not 1,000s of pics on their phones which they readily show / share with their friends

Crew have ZERO access to onboard WiFi UNLESS they choose to purchase at current commercial rates - none do of course because SQ WiFi so rediculously slow nobody in their right mind would pay for it.

On that note RE: usage of mobile phones, one of the cabin crew took pictures of my wife and I on our honeymoon Suites flight.
Upon me sending feedback (to the general feedback email address) praising the staff for their professionalism and service, I included a small request for the feedback team to somehow track down the staff that were serving our particular flight, and sure enough they responded and included 2 pictures that were taken.
Absolutely brilliant service.

I'll bite - do they load anything in the F/R cabins for unplanned "surprises" that haven't been called in before (such as birthday, honeymoon, anniversary etc), or do you absolutely need to tell them prior to flight?

Oh tks mate - from the minute you sat beside me at OT the other night and we started chatting I knew you were going to be trouble!!!

J/K mate

Yep if bday / honeymoon / anniversary preadvised to SQ they will provide cake and make as big a deal as possible - within limits obviously.

If not preadvised and crew become aware onboard YES they will still endeavor to rustle around and hunt up a cake or a desert to make it look like a cake and again make the event as ‘special’ as they can.

This applies to ALL cabins not just R/F/J

Any wonder I love SQ?

Will PH Rare return? Nobody knows

i am currently ensconced in 2C enroute SIN-MEL 217 (old Suites - my home away from home) - dude in 3A BTC Lobster Thermidor- OMG - the presentation - I am allergic to ALL crustaceans so crays are off limits to me - but I get so jealous when I see the ‘gastronomic coughs’ that people experience with shellfish!

And I am still trying to work out this whole caviar thing! This stuff is supposed to be good?

I guess i must suffer a legacy from being birnnwrong side of the tracks.

Question: I booked SQ218 and SQ217 in October 2018 for travelling August 2019. The ticket is paid one not using any KF points. When I booked SQ218/217, they were A380 with Suites in seat 3A & 3F (travelling +1). Now, SQ changed A380 to 77W, and placed me and +1 to 1A and 1D. Currently 77W F (1 roll, 4 seats only) in SQ218/217 are full.

What will be your advise for getting "downgraded" from Suites to First? How to squeeze "compensation" for degradation of comfort and privacy??

I have no KF status, just a self-funded leisure traveller.

Firstly a sub 380 to 777 - R to F - will not entitle you to any compensation in any way - in SQ eyes R = F / F = R

Can you see seat map already that cabin is full? You 100% sure on that? Bassinet seat on 777 is 1A - you have been allocated this seat?

777 4 F is indeed a prob for couples - but your original choice on 380 was a window seat each - now you would prefer 1A and 1F on 777 so you both have window seats again correct?

Your only chance is to request swap seats with pax in 1F in Lounge before boarding or onboard.

Of course another sub may occur in which case you are back to drawing board again

Thanks, that makes a load of sense. The only reason I asked, was that for my wife's and my honeymoon Suites flight, I had requested the honeymoon cake as a surprise, but the LSS said "It's your honeymoon, right? We have a cake for that" to her as soon as we boarded. So I was just wondering on a way to make that discrete the next time we do a trip for anniversary/bday etc.

Anyway thanks for asking and following that up mate :)

Yes, we do prefer 1A & 1F for 77W, if it is the 8 F version of 77W, we would have ask for 1A, 2A or 1F, 2F. I tried to change seats in SQ website, all 4 seats are taken. To make matters worse, subsequent SQ228 is full and I can see that SQ227 still empty. I might ask to get changed to SQ227 and give ourselves a full day in Singapore to enjoy Jewel Changi.
