Singapore Airlines Delays/Cancellations

According to various media, thousands upon thousands of Australians remain overseas, but supposedly want to 'come home.' Some in Peru have resorted to chartering a plane with travellers being asked to pay A$5160 - huge - for a single (i.e. one way) ticket.

Not all 'stranded' will be booked on SQ, but some won't yet have tickets and will want to travel, even if the fares by normal standards skyrocket. Apart from special repatriation flights that have yet to be publicised, QF has stated that its international flights will cease at the end of March 2020 for a considerable period so that's a major competitor temporarily out of the way for SQ.

And there'll be some foreign business people/tourists still in Oz who need to return to their domiciles.

My apologies if the list I published had largely been available for a few days: I didn't see it a couple of days ago.

No apology necessary. I have just been watching closely as I have flights that I hope they cancel ;)

On Saturday, 9 May 2020 during coronavirus, SQ232, the 1210 hours SYD - SIN is suggested as pushing back 50 minutes late.

There are only four other timetabled departures for overseas ex SYD today: UA870 to SFO, delayed NZ104 to AKL, NH880 to HND and lastly QR909 to DOH.

SQ218, the coronavirus pandemic Sunday 24 May 2020 scheduled night flight MEL - SIN at 2150 hours has been cancelled.

Also during coronavirus, on Thursday 6 August 2020, SQ218 is again cancelled, but today it was a close to midnight 2350 hours proposed MEL up to SIN.

Still during the virus, SQ212, an 0855 hours suggested SYD - SIN on Sunday 7 February 2020 has been cancelled.

Despite low passenger numbers permitted inbound, SQ continues to operate passenger flights to and from some Australian cities, showing up 'national carrier' Qantas that appears not to want to do this unless it receives payment from our Federal Government.

SQ222 at 1610 hours ex SYD also for SIN appears to still be running today.

Sunday 28 March 2021 has seen SQ232, the 1200 'high noon' SYD - SIN cancelled. SQ still operated SQ212 at 0855 and SQ222 at 1600 hours: while I don't check every day, this is the first time for yonks I've seen any international airline plan to operate three flights on a route on one day.

Thursday 2 December 2021 sees SQ245 (0955 hours SYD down to BNE) A359 9V-SHR) having not taken off until 1131, meaning arrival should be at 2034, 49 minutes tardy.

Further south, SQ228, the mid to latish afternoon 1640 hours MEL - SIN was in the sky at 1728, suggesting arrival at gate at 2203 hours, 43 behind for 9V-SHT, also an A359. Melbourne has had another stormy afternoon.

SQ241 (the 0705 hours SIN down to SYD) is worse, having not become airborne until 0941, so for 9V-SHL, arrival looks like 1941, 106 minutes late. In turn, this will delay departure of SQ242, the 1910 hours back to SIN until about 2050.

While it doesn't appear (yet) that there are any inbound delays, on Saturday 4 December 2021, SQ242 (1910 SYD - SIN) is predicted to depart 65 minutes late.

SQ245 Singapore to Brisbane tonight had to divert to Cooloongatta presumably low on fuel as the Brisbane runways were closed temporarily during the storms.
Quite a lot of planes circling the skies waiting, must have been nearly an hour with no runways.

On what continues to be an extremely rainy, stormy day and evening in Melbourne, SQ217, the 1100 hours SIN - MEL (A359 9V-SHE) should arrive at 2210, 45 minutes tardy, provided no holding is necessary. Many domestic flights are half an hour to two hours late into or out of MEL tonight despite fewer flights compared to pre-COVID times.

Friday 29 April 2022 has seen SQ242 (A359 9V-SHD, the 1805 hours SYD - SIN) not become airborne until 1959 so expected Saturday 30 arrival is 0138 hours, 78 minutes late.
