VA could you please clarify? Got the Vmail, but have not been "Selected by VA" to get double credits. Im not going to book my flights on VA by default, if I am not going to get their offer. Once again, conditions as clear as mud:confused::confused: Why cant it just be a straight up email, and then only those that get the email know about it, its like our noses are getting rubbed in it again  "Hey look at what we are doing, but not for you, because you didn't get invited"

Agree with the posts above that we should be included as we got the email, but conditions say otherwise, as we have not specifically been offered the double SC. Who gives a cough, I just booked with QF anyway, as their fares are slightly cheaper where I need to go, when I need to go, shame really, because I probably would have paid the slight excess to fly vA if I was to be awarded the double points, Oh well, such is life.

Yours sincerely,

If that's the generic email 777 spoke of, then yes, I received that Monday and take that as being an invitation to earn double SCs!

I'm thinking of maybe a quick trip across the tasman...

The offer extends to all partners and I notice airNZ has some decent offers when on special ($200 return tasman) and they also don't fall under the final destination rule like DJ flights do.

EDIT:
Can anyone tell me the fare class for Works Deluxe on the TT flights, are they credited as PE or Business? Also how do they market the business seats? (It's still a gem $300 for 60*2 SC's)

Note, AKL - SYD/BRIS is zone 2, but mel is zone 3.

Loobloke, I'm interested in finding out where you can get these prices....

From the NZ Agent page:
"Booking classes which relate to this product are the same as The Works: L, T, W, V, Q, H, M, B, Y."

Then on the Velocity page, there are no NZ trans tasman booking classes that earn at the PE rate. C, D, J, Z earn at the business/first rate. So I think the best that can be done on the Works is full fare economy SCs, in Y and B class.

I made an NZ Works booking (not deluxe) for January a couple of months back, it's gone into L and S classes. I suspect clicking the 'give me flexibility' option would have turned those into Y or B class, which would earn at full economy rate, but the premium for that was fairly chunky.

I've found on the NZ site that with long haul it will tell you booking classes during a dummy booking, but for trans tasman it will only tell you the class after payment.

EDIT: Post #30 by mr_osborne corrects my assertion about the flexi option.

Just some info for people re Air NZ, I Had to deal with this issue earlier, the thread can be found at :http://www.australianfrequentflyer....d-airpoints/air-nz-booking-classes-32836.html.

Basically, to sum it up, there is no correlation between works/works deluxe and booking class. My understanding of the system, is they have a base fare, seat. The price level that is set at relates to the booking class (lower price, lower class). I have tried to summarise the basic idea in the table below:

Seat
Seat + Bag
Works
Works Deluxe
Basic
X
X+20
X+50
X+150
Flexible
Y
Y+20
Y+50
Y+150

Note: when you select a fare, there is a check box option to make it a flexi fare, also as I'm from NZ, I think/work in NZ dollars, it may be slightly different in Australia, but the same concept should apply

So what I'm trying to show, is the Basic fare/Fare class is the same for each fare, therefore the points earn is the same. Because of this, I think that it will often be better to book cheaper fares through the Velocity website as the cheapest fares booked through Air NZ earn 0.25 points per mile, whereas DJ would class these as saver fares, and they would earn at 0.5.

Works deluxe will most likely be a cheap discount economy fare at that price.

You cannot purchase PE on Trans Tasman flights, but you can purchase Business(on the daily flight on the 773 continuing on from USA). The standard fare for business from Auckland is about $1200NZD to melbourne, but have seen it on sale at $600NZD (One way).

I hope this helps

I'd previously done this table, just to give you an idea,

Discount Economy (L, G, S, K, P, F)
0.25 Velocity Points
Discount Economy (V, W, T)
0.5 Velocity Points
Discount Economy (Q, H, M)
0.75 Velocity Points
Economy (Y, B)
1 Velocity Point
Business Class (C, D, J, Z)
2 Velocity Points

Based on Air NZ info:
K,
X, G, L, T, W, V = Smart saver
Q, H, M, B, Y, D, C = Flexi

As you can see, you could book a flexi , it could be in Q,H or M class, and virgin would only give you Discount economy SC (Status Earn Fare Class| Velocity Frequent Flyer)

Sorry if this is a stupid question but can someone clarify what exactly the final destination rule is? Thanks

Unlike most airlines that award status credits per sector, Virgin award per a mile based "final destination" route (which may or may not include multiple sectors). Eg, on QF, a SYD-CBR-MEL single booking multi-sector trip would earn the minimum status credits for each of the two sectors. DJ would earn only 1 "flight" equalalent to SYD-MEL direct (or 10 SCs). To earn the two sector SCs, you'd have to book two flights SYD-CBR and then CBR-MEL which would then earn 2 x 10 SCs but the fares are dearer than the multi-sector single booking.

Hope that helps.

I've heard that if the flight numbers change, then they post seperately... is that correct? or was I mistaken? Specifically for me, when flying Akl-Mel-Lst, if booked as one flight, would it only post as 1 zone 3 flight? Thanks

Domestically, a change in flight number (which is all of them I believe) in a multi-sector booking makes no difference, one flight awarded according to direct flight miles. As yours includes an international sector, I couldn't say for certain. I'll leave that for some of the more talented FFers to answer.

Some of the gold coast premium fares are very attractive with the current double SC offer. OOL-MEL $385 in PE is pretty good for 120 SC with the promo!

Are you sure that earns 120SC ?

It's classed as "Premium Economy" so wouldn't it earn 90 ?

PE domestically awards as J......there is a footnote on the DJ site and I can indeed confirm it's the case!

Thanks boys, looks like a MEL-OOL-MEL trip!

Quite upset I just purchased lounge membership a few weeks ago...as I thought I'd be stuck at Silver...

I did search but couldn't' find it... So when I become GOLD will VA credit me back any of the $$ spent for the lounge membership ?
