QF1/2 F pax experience through SIN

Apologies for the blurs. The new QF2 menus seem squarer than the previous ones and are difficult to get a focus on.

The menu is called supper/breakfast on both sectors. But it's actually a dinner supper with courses, as opposed to a supper supper with just the list of five or six random dishes.

The menus also have new imagery, they had the new tableware, a new safety video, and new champagne.

I'm sure they are all nice enough - but steak sandwich, roast beef, basic pasta just don't cut it as F class meals to me. Barely even J.

My first visit to the lounge was a bit all over the place, and I nearly got left behind!

Leaving LHR was completely smooth. A porter met me at the car and checked me in, and boarding was fine, etc.

But then not having been to Singapore in ages, it took me a long time to find the lounge in the first place. There were two hosts checking boarding passes at the door, and most people were then directed to the lounge desk, where presumably they were told their boarding times and gates for their next flights. But when my host saw my F/P1 boarding pass, he took me straight into the lounge offering me a seat in the main area or the dining area. I said I was looking for a shower, so he walked me there, and the attendant gave me a free shower room straight away. It was all so fast that I practically had to run to keep up with him.

As I was getting undressed, I realised I had no idea what time or gate I had to reboard at. So there I was half naked checking departue times on my mobile phone to make sure I was going to have enough time to shower.

I made it out of the shower and then would have been completely lost in the packed lounge if I hadn't heard about the reserved area. I asked where it was, and was taken there and offered a drink, and I started doing some work. My seat neighbours (about 30cm away, given how close together the chairs were) had been sitting in front of me on the flight to SIN, and silly me, I just assumed we were all getting back on the flight to SYD together. I didn't hear any boarding announcement around when I thought it would have been based on my shower browsing, but I assumed it was just running late. Then after a while one of my seat neighbours asked the other what time boarding was. About two hours to go, he said. Gulp, I realised they were going somewhere else!

All the waiters had disappeared of course, and I looked everywhere for a depature screen, finally locating the single screen at the entrance (that I would have seen previously I guess if I hadn't been running to the shower). The flight had naturally closed by that point, and it was a 10 minute walk to the gate.

I was the last person to the gate, and they basically shepherded me on board, with all the gates and doors closing behind me. All this was without a single page or call to try to locate me, so I don't know what they would have done if I hadn't appeared.

Of course, all this is completely my fault, and now I'll know what to do on the return flight. But it does seem like with a lounge that big, they could have a few more screens or call the flights or provide a more consistent experience like the example posted previously where the waiters let you know when it's time to board.

I had the curry, which was nice, as I like curry. But it's not exactly fine dining!

As J seems to have basically the same menu as F, at least if you're in J, you can say you're getting the F experience. :D

Thanks for the menus :) I'm back on QF for a while rather than EK and looking forward to seeing the new tableware and glassware; the new Champagne flutes look better from what I've seen in other posts around the Interweb.

I guess that's some comfort when you have to sit in J after your F seat has gone unserviceable ;)

LHR to SYD via SIN earlier in the week. Went to the Emriates lounge, was one of about three in the entire lounge.

Have transited the QF lounge in SIN twice recently now, one with ~4hrs connecting AY to QF, the next as a QF1 transit. Lowly SG only i’m afraid. Both in the last fortnight.

Firstly, the lounge is too small for the volume of pax. It was “standing room only” at one stage on my first visit. Yet weirdly for the second visit, it didn’t seem that full. So it’s unclear to me why but no doubt there’s been no provision for the fact that QF now have 2 A380s transmitting at roughly the same time each day. “Priority boarding” scrum in SYD would indicate there’s a high number of pax on each flight whom are eligible for lounge access,

I really like lounges that make NO boarding calls (too much background noise etc when they do so), but to have only a single screen that can only be seen at the main entrance is profoundly stupid and inconvenient. I apologise if there is a screen elsewhere but I couldn’t find on on two visits! There needs to be one each in the distinct areas (dining room, room opposite the bar / behind the bar and another in the area “around the corner” to the left where there are a large number of seats/couches.

The staff, once you cornered them, were obliging, but it’s totally unclear whether it’s “table service” or “order at the counter” for the daily specialties (which were exactly the same 10 days apart).

I’d rate the overall SIN lounge experience about a 6.5/10. Which is a shame as with some relatively minor tweaks it’s be comfortably an 8+/10. Although the size vs demand is still an issue (perhaps they need an “overflow” area or “first class dining area”??

It's unclear but either works. If they're in your vicinity you can give them your order, which has the advantage of them knowing where you're sitting. You can also order at the counter but make sure you clearly identify where you're sitting, as they can get it wrong.

They're not daily ;)

Brettmcg noted:-

The SATS Lounge around the corner is taking overflow of QC and Voucher pax, up to 100 per night.

I'm told there is some investigation going on at the moment as to surrounding free space for an extension or a satellite. Apparently QF have come across some unused space around the corner from the BA Lounge. Depending on how the SIN transit point develops, we should watch this space.

Has anyone got any more info (or able to find more info) on the stats overflow deal?

Brettmcg said "The SATS Lounge around the corner is taking overflow of QC and Voucher pax, up to 100 per night." which makes me wonder how this works?

I had a second visit last night on QF1, which was the complete opposite of the QF2 experience.

QF1 must be after the earlier peak because the lounge was empty. The staff were the same as earlier in the week and recognised me. This time, I received boarding details, a sticker wirh the wifi password, and a personal boarding reminder and offer to walk me to gate (ironically from the same host who had to corral me back onto QF2 last time!).

The downside to being on time for boarding was that as maybe mentioned upthread the queues at the reboarding gate were horrendous.

So my plans next time are to try the Emirates lounge for QF2 (it seems to close before the QF1 departure?) And then the QF lounge for QF1, but leaving the lounge at a more leisurely pace to avoid queuing for 20min+.

Ironically, when that incident occurred, I had checked the F menu when I thought I was going to be sitting there, and the J menu was identical minus the fluff around the edges. I was so angry all I had was some carrot soup towards the end.

Fast forward to last night, and where am I but seat 1A, with the A/C vent broken. I vented myself to the CSM Scott that this was the third this same seat was broken in 7 months. This was VH-OQD - I can't find if I kept the details of the last two flights, but I remember checking and those two were definitely the same aircraft. Scott basically did nothing and just left me there - no offer of compensation or any sympathy whatsover.

But the lounge staff in Singapore went out of their way to try to help me and swapped me with presumably a free staff traveller when it couldn't be fixed.

On the menu was carrot soup!

Went through SIN yesterday.
QF2 LHR-SYD.
I was in J on LHR-SIN and got an op-up SIN-SYD.
F host met two Pax in F at SIN and escorted them to the lounge, they were slightly in front of me but I overtook them as going too slow on the travellators.
On arrival absolutely zero recognition, all I got was a “No Boarding announcements in this lounge”.
Being in a DYKWIA mood I asked what was available to me as a P1. After this I was immediately whisked off to the reserved F/P1/CL area, introduced to a lounge attendant and had table service champers etc. 14 seats I think.Various Pax come and try to grab the spots but the lounge staff dispatched a few whilst I was there.
After a quick bite to eat I went to have a shower. Advised that all showers were full and I would need to wait, again the Magic P1 word managed to unlock a shower which must have been unavailable for the general lounge members.
Fairly unremarkable flight SIN-SYD. Again I’m reminded that I loved having the longer sector to arrive into Australia at night as I was shattered this morning.
The menu was as posted by @La Mouette

Love it. I need to get into a DYKWIA mood more often.

The dedicated area looks pretty ordinary. Guess I will stick with SQ for flights, or the BA and EK lounges when flying QF - for now. Hopefully lounge and/or new space will improve the amenity for status / F pax over time.
