The FA made of point of explaining that this was the new "summer" menu. One wonders how long a summer this will be.....
It will be summer (or close to it) somewhere in the world all year round!

Check out the smiley at the end. I agree that EK offers a different product to QF however QF has for years promoted and still do Internationally the Full Service. Customers may have come to expect too much at times ( Self Included ) However the drop in food offerings from QF has been rather dramatic. Check out the Cafe style Breakfasts on certain International flights. One of the benifits of the EK/QF tie up was supposed to lead to an increase in customer service and product offerings. To date EK leaves QF for dead. I have flown F on both QF and EK and will take EK every time. Service in Y on EK is far more attentibe on EK than QF, Food in Y on EK is much better than on QF, Drink Varities offered on EK in Y are Better than QF, Premium drinks offered on EK in F is far better than QF F, presentation and contents of amenity kits, head phones and PJs are far better on EK than QF.

Sorry for going OT but QF could and should learn a lot from EK.

I do however have some positive things to say about QF ie seat allocation and selection on QF is far better, the ambience of the Y cabin on QF is far better on QF.

Last September we flew QF1 to DBX and then changed to EK to Milan. The flight was packed seats cramped (Y) could not even eat the roll, tasted disgusting, sealed in a plastic bag. The flight crew were uninterested in even smiling. We were surprised, it felt like a very cheap cattle run.

Flight back from Prague to DBX was a much nicer experience. And the return to Sydney on QF was very good service.

The Roast Beef and Quinoa salad was pretty yuck when I had it last week  Whilst the ingredients of the salad were fresh and crunchy it seemed like the salad had not been dressed or seasoned in any way. I had to ask for a second packet of salt and pepper to get it to taste like anything! Furthermore, the roast beef was pretty dry and very fatty. Not a tasty meal at all and quite disappointing considering I know full well what QF is capable of in terms of catering!

You mean DXB presumably.

Had the roast vegetables with chicken last night.

The roast vegetables are OK but the chicken is awful.

Today had yogurt & muesli plus a muffin in a box, the latter tasteless, was on SYD/CNS 9.15am fight, the service was excellent.

I really like the aesthetics of the new domestic boxes used for breakfast - I'd probably argue they look better than a tray.

Had the exact same box on Saturday BNE-SYD; & I do mean exact because my muffin was also tasteless. Goodness knows how a bakery, even one using mass-production, manages to bake an unpleasant muffin. Unfortunately my flight did not match yours in relation to service...

Later on Saturday morning, the International arm worked to redeem QF's reputation by offering hot breakfast on a tray complete with cutlery, glass, etc, all nicely complemented by very good service on SYD-ZQN!

Got the same hot pie again for lunch.

MEL-CBR at 0720. Actually wanted a bottle of milk and muesli + muffin + OJ this time as I was rushing out of my apartment at 0545 to make the flight and didn't get a chance to eat anything and didn't have time to visit QP when I got to MEL.

However, on the flight they served an oblong 'scone' with raspberry jam and butter (it was spreadable at least) and tea/coffee. Was disappointed to say the least as I was starving! Massive step down from what used to be offered on morning flights between MEL and CBR. What I got is what I'd expect for afternoon tea between SYD and CBR.

Havent had a flight for a while...experienced the new box of grass meals over the weekend.
Not a fan. Declined on 2nd flight and asked if there was an alternative, peanuts, chips etc...got some soy crackers.

Only option seems to be travel USA style BYO Macca's or Pizza...thoughts on that idea?

Or drop some more $$ off the fare.

Has the Bundaberg Ginger beer been downsized too? It used to be a long skinny can.

Yes, the can is now same size as all the other cans that are carried.

Lemon, lime and bitters is also being introduced in the same size can and appletizer is out.

But sparking mineral water has made it to Y! This makes me happy.

A slice of lemon might be pushing it though ;)

Flew SYD-BNE on Monday evening, was handed a 'cold pesto penne pasta with chicken breast' as the dinner service (along with a tall-skinny can of Bundy ginger beer). Certainly more filling than the salads they have been dishing out, but maybe too heavy.

Interestingly, at the completion of the service about 40mins out of BNE, the Y cabin manager came and introduced herself and proceeded to ask me and my seat neighbours (by name) about the meal. We were in row 4 on a 738.

Said she was seeking our opinion on the meal as valued Qantas customers (I am WP, I suspect my neighbours were also high-tier as we were the only full row on the flight... everyone else had a shadow ).

Said they were getting a lot of 'feedback' about the Summer salad offerings and she was curious to know if we enjoyed the pasta and if it was more to our liking than the salads.

I didn't see her speak with any other pax in the rows behind.

Not a few minutes later, the CSM came from the J cabin and proceeded to thank us (by name) for flying with QF and if there was anything else he could get us.

Two personal greetings and offer to take feedback in one flight. Either the people sitting beside me were VIP/CIP DYKWIA's or we just hit a great crew (I suspect the latter as they really were pretty good that flight).
