hmmm - trayless multi-course meal? Easy!!

combines energiser/main/dessert (one sip for each) all in a single package!

A bit like Jetstar, where if you have a plus package (or had a plus package) with hot meal included, you are just given the foil container with the meal.

Not on JQ35 MEL-DPS on Friday. The plus meal was on a tray. It consisted of a foil wrapped hot course (choice of 3), a Movenpick ice cream tub, a plastic wrapped bread roll, butter, water, pepper&salt, plastic cutlery. Add a small starter and it would have been like most QFi Y-class meals.

Even though the OP was about international economy, it looks like something has happened domestically as well - but I wonder if this is a permanent change or is it just a summer menu for the holiday period?

Had my second box salad last night BNE - MEL, was actually very tasting and filling. I have no probs not having a chocolate and a white bread roll - never ate them anyway (understand the people who like chocolate and bread though will be disappointed)

I suspect I'm amongst the few AFF's who are more active and healthy though so I probably won't represent a high % of the population here but I like the new salad range. They taste very fresh - different.

Haven't had a hot meal box yet though.

Almost all of those cereal drinks are ridiculously high in sugars. Definite stay away

For some contrast...

Flew Dragonair HKG-TPE last night at 6pm, dinner consisted of:

-pork fried rice (approx 5 tablespoons with no distinguishable meat)
-no name filtered water (hospital serving), tea and coffee offered as only other options (no soft drinks beer wine etc)

The fried rice was served in a cardboard box (no tray in sight).

A short sector I know, however only a few months ago we were seeing hot rolls with things like pulled pork and a choice of soft and hard drinks which was fine.

Eww... I would be extrememly hungry when i'm flying fly to Perth!! NOT HAPPY QANTAS! lol

Anyways... I have seen lots of pax don't want to eat crackers and chocolate... that's why flight attendant gave me some chocolate lol.

Id I'd suggest perth would still be full tray service at this stage

Since I have been stuffing myself in the Flounges pre flight, all my meals have been tray free on QFi, just a cuppa and a roll.

Qantas should just dual purpose the oxygen mask. Swipe your credit card and out comes the delicious sludge of the day. Remember to attach your feeding mask before attaching the feeding mask of any co-dining minors.

I had the muesli and yoghurt last Thursday morning and the roast beef and buckwheat salad Thursday night doing MEL-BNE-MEL.

I didn;t mind the yoghurt and muesli but the salad was very ordinary.

The FA made of point of explaining that this was the new "summer" menu. One wonders how long a summer this will be.....

Flew MEL-PER-MEL on last week (Thursday return) and can confirm it's definitely still full tray service. Choice was chicken or beef and the beef wasn't too bad.

Well, QF have have real competition on the Coast to Coast route so they need to keep to a higher standard - not so much elsewhere domestically.

Well, QF have have real competition on the Coast to Coast route, not so much elsewhere domestically.

lets not lose sight though that this thread was concerning international travel. QF has plenty of competition on all international flights.

if it is a trial for QF1, the advertising for economy meals has not been updated to reflect that. it still says all economy meals (international) are served on Marc newson tableware.

flew BNE-SYD QF555 last Friday night
3 slices of roast beef, buckwheat, lettuce

refreshing meal
refreshing look*
but disappointing if I am getting a cold meal any more often than occasionally

*I think it's premium to do without the bento box look
(after having CX W meals with economy-looking tray, I am looking forward to QF W meals - photos suggests a less cluttered feel)

QF522 SYD-BNE had a no tray service on Saturday. Drinks service first, then chicken pie handed out in its own packaging.

The pie actually wasn't too bad...

CNS-BNE this morning: yoghurt and granola plus muffin. Drink orders were taken and served from the cart when the box was handed out.

BNE- SYD was very similar except was a yoghurt with rhubarb sauce plus packet of apple slices.

As someone else noted, the crew highlighted this was the 'summer' menu.
