That went horribly wrong for me last year when at 2am I got the call that the ADL-Mel leg was cancelled and they put me on a much later flight missing the return connection for that day.
In that instance, would the allow you to fly a different rout and then apply original routing credits?

Yes they did via Sydney but it made for a worrying and long day and a really long wait in OOL. And it took a few calls to get original RC. And I think I ended up a bit ahead.....

That is one of our go to runs but we now do them with an overnight in the Gold Coast as had too many mishaps and missed connections. Like you we have had the dreaded 2am call

Very wise.

I quite like the Gold Coast. Hop skip and jump from Brissy

The last time I did this I stayed over for 5 days.

Hey everyone,
Long time lurker, Recent joiner to the forums, and slowly trying to get silver before what could be a lot of travel next year (and hopefully gold!)

After a trip that lands a day before my membership year on 30 April, I should be about 50SC short. I know it might be hard to get the DSC in time, so I foresee an email or two to Qantas at this stage for that trip.

Aside from that, I'll be 50SC short of achieving silver. Based out of Sydney; any recommendations on getting just 50SC, as any extras won't roll over into my next year?

Cheers in advance - it's great to see such a large community for this sort of thing

@patwan, welcome to AFF. Remember that any DSC's that are credited to your account relate back to date on which they are earned and not the processing date. If the system doesn't automatically pick it up, call QF and explain and they can manually adjust and hopefully the system will therefore automatically revert you to the higher status.

My rollover date is 28th Feb so after a combination of several cross country J classic rewards and about 10 paid flights, I’m just about 100 SCs

So I may as well make them count in next years oh just realised a couple of AFF events looming so perhaps package up and get along to them. Especially since one of the trips in mind involves Gold Coast....

Still looking for something that works for a run to New York from Perth with us avoiding midnight red eyes and 737s for a business class run at a reasonable price. Serfty’s thought of a 787 out of MEL or BNE might work better than an A380 where we could miss the upgrade fairy and get stuck in that uncomfortable business class seat. First world problem I know but happy wife equals happy life.

If you don't care about QF DSC... take CX via HKG - it's the fastest route from PER to NYC. Another well priced option is to take QF10 PER-MEL connecting to JL overnight to NRT, then NRT-JFK. Unfortunately that means you'd have a long transit in Tokyo from mid morning until late afternoon, which isn't necessarily terrible...

If you need the QF DSC then take QF10 PER-MEL connecting to QF49/QF95 to SFO/LAX, overnight, then take a daytime SFO/LAX-JFK on AA or QF11 or overnight in MEL on the way over and take QF93.

Thanks madrooster that is pretty much what I am considering for the DSC run to make Mrscove Platinum while this offer is running. Some pricing has been too high for the product offered during the DSC period.
Most of our international trips are using points/miles with SQ. SQ Suites are a favourite on Kris Miles.
Mrscove has a $9999 first class ticket to LAX and return already in the non DSC booking period so when the price is $16k less some business rewards discounts and kickers my eyes glaze over. Now the fiscal fiend will pay almost half of the $9999 as that is a business trip to meet many suppliers.
We are both lifetime gold so there really is no urgency.

We have registered for the DSC and both recieved emails confirming our registration. I was on the phone to Qantas this morning following up on some missing Jetstar status credits and thought that I would ask them to check their system to ensure our registration for the DSC promo was in their system. It wasn't and they said not to worry, we have the email and can claim back the DSC's after flying in July/August. Naturally I wasn't very happy with that response as I explained to the Qantas reprentative that we had huge problems last year getting our DSC's credited after a Business RTW trip and we don't want a similar experience this time. They said they would make a note in their system on both our QFF accounts. We are booking another Business RTW trip for July to September and I am keen not to go through the stress of last year with the constant chase up for the points. I am already LTG but this will just about get the wife to LTG. One would have to worry about their computer systems...

Never mind. Misread.

But what would you expect them to say? Their system says your registered. You have an email saying your registered. What else could they do?
But the system says they havent, hence the worry.

A dummy question: are domestic Jetstar flights included or excluded from this promo? The T&C's are rather vague about this. The way I interpret them is that Jetstar is excluded but is that really the case?

"An Eligible Flight for the purpose of this promotion means any Domestic or International Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number on your ticket where Status Credits are normally earned. For full details, see terms and conditions. Status Credits will not be earned on some fare types and booking classes including Classic Flight Rewards. Any flight with a QF flight number on the ticket which is not operated by Qantas including Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Valuair, Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Pacific and other partner airlines are not eligible for this offer."

Would that last sentence be read as 'flight operated by Qantas (and in Qantas we include JQ, JQ Asia, ...)' or 'not operated by Qantas, and this exclusion refers to JQ, JQ Asia, etc' (and in the latter some proper punctuation would make a big difference before we eat, Grandpa!).

Jetstar = a big NO for your DSC

Edit: The flight needs be on QF with a QF flight number (and not a code share)

While the AKL-DRW run has gone, it could be worthwhile to look at DRW-AKL in J. At $1843 for 640SCs it works out at $2.88 per SC.

Can do it with no accommodation arriving at AKL at 0515 hours and departing at 1915 hours. Stop over in MEL for a night in my own bed and off to DRW the next day.

For many, positioning costs to DRW would make this somewhat unviable. Something to keep in mind before going full tilt.
