We will just be speculating but is it likely that this DSC promo is in response to VA's and not in lieu of the usual ~May DSC promo QF has run in recent years?
Last year the promo was in Feb. The time for the promo does vary.

I doubt there'll be another promo till late July/August but QF does like to surprise with these promos.

Not likely - more likely Qantas already planned it. DSC promotions have not normally been in May in recent years

I will be 50sc short this year of retaining Gold. Any suggestions for status runs out of NTL?

For 50SC look for something indirect in at least one direction if possible e.g. see if flying via SYD/MEL/BNE has similar pricing to flying direct. That way you should be able to fly on the cheapest economy fares and get your 50SC on a domestic trip.

After a US trip in January and another to Hawaii in April, I will be 340SC short of Platinum. My year ends 31 May. This is my best chance to hit platinum for once in my life.

I have checked out the best status run options, but I am having trouble finding one which is reasonable given my starting location (ADL) and my needs (340SC). All the best runs seem to be far above the number of credits I need.

I am pretty new to this status run thing (I did a few any seat awards back in the day). I have about 170K points I can use for positioning, but time is the biggest factor.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a possible good option?

Shorter international options would include e.g. flying to New Zealand via SYD/MEL in J.

Or maybe flying somewhere in QLD via MEL/SYD/BNE in J e.g. ADL-SYD-OOL

If there's somewhere you'd like to go for the weekend that'd make a good status run and it prices well that's a bonus.

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Anyone know that if I make a full flex booking, and later have to change dates (changing AFTER this Friday, but still flying within the promo period), will it still count towards double status credits please?

As long as you keep the same PNR and fly within the promo period you should get the DSC

ADL-MEL-OOL J return. Price is $1740 return. Earn is 40+60 each way is 200 SCs doubled is 400 SCs

I think I know the answer to this but I'll double check anyway...
If I book a Flex economy fare and upgrade to Business via points, I'll still get the SC from the economy fare yes?

Yes.

If i book prem economy sale but one of the legs I will be flying economy, what rate would I earn at? Can I trust the qantas calculation?

Same if J Sale but one of the legs are in Y... ? what happens

Need to book to fly on the 24th (one day prior to eligibility). Return flight is within the eligible period. Am I likely to get DSCs for the return flight? T&Cs are slightly ambiguous I think.. thanks

I've registered but doubt I'll book anything as my existing DSC offer runs to 8th August.
I over committed with the Feb 2018 double SC promotion and didn't partake with the 2 previous double SC promotions to the point where I had 6-7 bookings this year at normal earn.

Not making the same mistake this time.

That went horribly wrong for me last year when at 2am I got the call that the ADL-Mel leg was cancelled and they put me on a much later flight missing the return connection for that day.

That is one of our go to runs but we now do them with an overnight in the Gold Coast as had too many mishaps and missed connections. Like you we have had the dreaded 2am call

From NTL the only QF option is via BNE, and unfortunately the way those fares work is you will always pay for the BNE-NTL leg.

40 would be easy, just get a Jetstar Starter Max return to BNE or MEL.

Other than that, you're probably best getting the train down to Sydney.

NTL is a hard port to maintain status - I rely on US trips to stay WP.
