Re: QF Y front row 747 - row 43 on new 3 Class config.

Personally I would take row 23 in a heartbeat.
As opposed to any other seat on an A330?

I really need to book a flight returning from SIN and am baulking at QF6 and the A330 that is available that month. SIN-SYD is ~8 hours so while not as long as BKK-SYD it is still a little too long to be sitting in 23B/23J on an A330.

Haha I guess my sample is limited (been on an A330 4 times) and 3 of those have been in row 23 and the other in row 24. I don't know what it's like further back but I can imagine it would be just like Y on any other aircraft (the A380 type 80A/K, 71D don't exist AFAIK)
For me, someone not reclining into me is the most important followed by disembarking as soon as possible. The legroom issue isn't that big of a deal for me anyway, in the end it's still Y so a forward bulkhead suits me fine. YMMV of course...
I guess the exit row is the next best thing but I don't know how many would be available at T-24 if you don't pre-purchase them or are not P1...

Re: Any recommendations for best seats (economy) on Qantas A330-300 other than exit r

For a day flight Row 23 wins...

Coming back however is no good for me at 6'3, so I will always take a 24/25 window and hope the shadow works.

Don't get me wrong. I hate to sit behind a recliner for any length of flight.

Legroom is slightly important and even though I am only 5'9" the restricted legroom is noticeable. I guess I have been spoiled on 747's.

Re: QF Y front row 747 - row 43 on new 3 Class config.

Seems there are no 'good' Y seats on QF 23/24 SYD > BKK SYD excluding exit.
Seatguru seams to indicate 56 DEF (1st of the 3 seaters mid rear of plan) have restricted leg room. Thoughts ??

I'm kind of thinking for 2 x PAX this could be interesting if both are WP and each takes the aisle with mid spare. I'd be shooting for it staying blank. And if it did fill, I'm sure the mid pax would swap for an aisle (unless they were 'unique' in personality) ... thoughts again ?

Or to be really risky 41 DEFG, again both with aisle as a WP.
(last row mid of forward Y cabin with nobody behind except toilets)

This having to occasionally fly Y is really cramping my style. Dam you GFC.

Re: QF Y front row 747 - row 43 on new 3 Class config.

I don't like the idea of not being able to stretch my legs out completely in row 23. I think that would be torture. That's why I go for row 24.

Mrs Ansett and I have used said tactic several times with great success even extending it to book D and G seats and ending up with a block of 4 to our selves :D

It is torture, I hated it. I pick rows 24 or 25 depending on availability.

Correct. And gone are the days of the 747s on that route with 12 exit row seats. The 330 has 4, which of course you now have the privilege of paying for (irrespective of your height or fitness).

Your fitness does come into play - you'll lose the seat and your money if your not fit to help.

While theoretically that is true (ie according to regulations), I have seen some very obviously unfit pax in QF exit row seats over the years. That is both before the payment option came in (when they could go to high status pax), and since the option to pay for the exit row came in.

My view is that there are seats in Y that are best suited to people of different "proportions", and they should be used that way. There is space at the back of the plane (where the fuselage narrows and the number of seats across the plane reduces) to make those seats somewhat wider for pax of more "generous" proportions. Similarly, tall (fit) pax like me who don't fit the standard Y seat pitch (which is the only travel class that my employer allows), should be allocated the seats with extra leg room. This was the case for my first 20 years of flying, where I was given an exit row on 19 out of every 20 flights as soon as checkin staff clapped eyes on me.

By employing those principles QF would not only make such pax as (un)comfortable as other Y pax, but also spare those next to us in regular seats the inconvenience of being "impinged" upon.

Re: Any recommendations for best seats (economy) on Qantas A330-300 other than exit r

Take note of the differences between the international 332 & the 333.

All 4 exit seats are usable on the 332 (steer clear of the A & K on the 333).

Also the centre row 23 seats have more legroom on the 332 (D & G especially).
