Qantas Singapore Lounge Catering Quality [Enhanced!]

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

Just went into the QF SIN lounge for the first time and noticed it was a tended bar. Had one drink and went to the BA lounge. How much nicer it is, with help yourself (even had 15 yo Glenfiddich). What kind of game is Qantas playing? Not a good one as far as I'm concerned.

Qantas Singapore Lounge Catering Quality

Is it just me or has the quality if the Singapore Lounge been significantly degraded?

The food used to be quite good for a business lounge but now it is noticeably average.

I note there was also changes in the type of bar service offered.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and there were still a couple of very good made-to-order choices. Plus some sloppier buffet offerings.

I was never a huge fan of the lounge in general (size, noise, food and beverages), but would agree that food quality has declined. My last 3 or 4 last made to order hot dishes were seriously average at best - admittedly all over several months ago now. Salads were quite good then though.

I will see what's on offer and usually get one of te hot meals with a coughtail, then retire to the BA lounge (nice satay and better wine and spirits) or EK if open (also good satays and good variety of hot dishes).

I would say that the food has 'bottomed' out as the offering on Sunday was very similar to visits earlier in this year (the same in fact).

The 'a la carte' options were a Chicken Laksa and a Pork Bao. Buffet options were a relatively tough beef massaman curry with rice and cauliflower and a very unappetising vegetarian shell pasta dish with a cheese based sauce (I did not see anyone even lift the lid on this one).

Dessert options were a cherry cheesecake, pandan lamingtons and creme brulee.

All were better (except maybe the pasta) than paying for a meal on my 3K flight home at least.

MUCH better wine. But don't tell anyone as it will get crowded.

Fortunately I'm yet to see the BA lounge ever get crowded or have many (if any) QF pax in there (not that I could be sure of course).

I was there a few weeks ago and was actually very impressed with the food & drinks on offer. YMMV.

Had the chicken laksa when we were there in June and found it to be quite good. The buffet items looks fresh and tasted fine even though it was 10:30 in the evening (we were on QF 6 back to SYD). The new signature coughtail (can't remember the name now but it was vodka based) was a tad sweet IMHO.

The visit before that was way back in 2015 when we had the minute steak with mash and a pasta carbonara. Both were tasty and went well with the Singapore Sling.

Yes, my experience concurs with you. Since at least last year, the 2 freshly cooked menu items have been very pedestrian. Laksa (chicken or seafood) seems to be one of the 2 menu items everytime I've been there (last visit 3 weeks ago) and the second menu item seems to be bao or dumpling. The menu used to change in the evening and salmon, steak, pan fried snapper, star anise pork amongst others used to be offered on the evening menus. Haven't seen those dishes for a very long time. The salads spread remains good though.
Personally, I'd say the SATS lounge actually does a better version of this Singapore style laksa that's on offer in the QF lounge.

I've never been a fan of the SIN lounge. It is very large, the food has always been a bit dodgy to me.. the slopped up buffet goo and salads very pedestrian.

I've also always wondered why the bathrooms have been so poorly managed as well.

The refurbed BA lounge is great and never crowded.

I should also note that the salads have been 'enhanced' and replaced by prepared fruit (big bowls of various melons, pineapple, dragonfruit etc).

I was there a couple of times last year and again a couple early this year - in comparson the food had gone down hill.

Look upthread (now merged with the earlier one).

Drink service has declined and some that were previously available to order (e.g. Sling) are no more.

I generally pop in to see whether the pork belly bao is on, and if it is I'll have a serve or two of that, while wincing through one of their fine glasses of white from the QC sub-$10 collection... and then move off to EK for finer food and dessert, and free flow champagne. Looking forward to check out Cathay's offering late in the year. Hopefully the bus transfer to T4 won't make it too impractical!

Cheers,
Matt.

Shame. That was the one thing I was reasonably impressed with a couple of visits back.

Last time I was there 3 weeks ago, the salad spread still had those baby spinach mixes, big chucky pieces of pumpkin and other tossed salad and grain mixes. Depending on the gate my EK flight leaves from next Wednesday and I could be bothered to walk over there to have a look, I'll report in,
