Qantas Singapore Lounge Catering Quality [Enhanced!]

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

You have to consider QF business lounges for what they are... reasonably good economy lounges catering to huge volumes of paid QC members in economy. How far does the $400 annual membership fee go for hot food, drinks, lounge rent, staff? Bad luck for the fare paying non-status business class passenger... but they should be invited to the F lounges anyway.

In SQ it caters for passengers who are in Business and/or SG and WP.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

OT to this thread but totally agree - Raffles long bar is an absolute rort for Slings (and other stuff). I went with a friend a few years back just "because it's Raffles" and to experience it. 2 slings for like S$42 (or something like that) seemed way over the top (even knowing Singapore is very expensive for spirits). Yes, itonic location, but they sure make the most of it and "sling" you for it :) Fun experience but not again :)

I have done the same thing as you, but also worth noting that the Long Bar is not in its original location and hasn't been since some time in the 80s.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

That pork mince and rice dish on offer last week was terrible, catering certainly seems to have dropped off.

I still think it is a good lounge. Bloody Mary was the 'coughtail of the day' also when I was there last week.

They've fallen a long way since opening, had a freshly cooked fish dish that was incredible at the time. Service was always top notch too, now I just avoid and stick to EK lounge.

Agreed. in the beginning, the Dishes of the day at least looked (even if they weren't) like they were cooked to order. Whereas, the noodles on offer the last time looked like something you'd get out of a cheap buffet (overcooked, mushy and oily)

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

And there was creme brûlée. They made a big deal of it.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

The food in the SIN lounge has certainly dropped in quality since the lounge first opened (and that is being generous). They served curried sausages and mash on one occasion I was in there.

However, I still generally look forward to a visit prior to a sub AUD100 3K flight SIN-PER. Better than paying for something to eat onboard.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

I wonder if anyone from QF reads threads such as these anymore?

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

It is easy to get carried away when one is constantly spoilt by high quality lounges. For all of its faults the QF SIN Lounge is a good effort for an overseas lounge. The HKG QF Lounge is the best J lounge I visit year on year. The Concorde Bar is the only reason I remain entrenched in the BA Lounge in SIN.

Ah yes the high life?

The QF HKG lounge was an improvement on the original QF SIN lounge. As with any QF lounge overseas you are going to find lots of families travelling and in my opinion those children are pretty much left uncontrolled in the lounge by their parents. This was always worse in the SIN lounge and to a lessser extent the BKK lounge which no longer exists.

In terms of the buffet available the new QF HKG lounge had better variety of food on offer catering to most tastes. The QF SIN lounge didn't start well but then improved. I don't usually order the cook to order but had the pork belly once and it was ok.

One thing I have noticed in recent times in the QF SIN lounge is the catering staff are a little arrogant. In my opinion catering staff need to be quiet and not order customers around.

I don't feel comfortable in the QF SIN lounge. The few times I have been in the BA SIN lounge it has been ok but little variety in food. The EK SIN lounge has good variety of food but the lounge is boring and like any EK lounge in Asia the staff linger around the food socialising and every time I take some food it feels like I have interrupted the socialising and they rush off to replace the food I have taken from the buffet. If you know me I go back to the buffet 3-4 times and the looks get worse each time. Maybe that's just me.

Have never been in the Concorde bar but suspect that could be my type of lounge where I could have something to eat and retreat to a quite corner to relax before my flight.

The food is not great in the BA Lounge. :( Fortunately they have at least added a more extended menu in the Concorde Bar.

You'll need to ditch the singlet and Bintang and go smart casual though. :p :p

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

Today's Singapore Lounge coughtail of the day is "Virgin margarita" ... (Get your own booze on the side)

Two weeks ago I did not try the dishes of the day as my flight was delayed 13 hours and I had other fish to fry.

Today it is the same menu - I tried the noodles ... Shocking!

Rarely do I not eat what is in front of me, but these were tastless and dry!

Waiting for the pork larb ... See how that goes.

They do have a serve yourself massamum curry ... Later ...

I may have to go next door for some British curries ...

Virgin coughtail has to be a new low for a lounge. I thought the pork was OK though others have rubbished it too. Agree re the noodles - 3 mouthfuls was about all I could have.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

Spiced Arabic Lamb and coughin Yoghurt G/F.

Don't know about the yoghurt but the lamb is about as good as I have ever tasted.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

I was in the QF SIN lounge today and was also rejected when requesting a Singapore Sling...right away another couple both requested the same and were disappointed. The lounge manager spoke to us and advised they get many requests daily and management are fully aware of what is happening. The bartender offered to make us any coughtail within reason - I got a margarita (stirred) which was tasty and also a vodka passionfruit concoction which was very easy on the tongue :)

The lounge was clean, the staff were very friendly and I was offered a very good chicken laksa as well as one of the waitresses coming to talk with me and make sure all was ok.

I left with a positive impression even though my initial coughtail request was declined. It really seems stupid to not offer the Slings...surely there is a cheap way to provide them to guests and keep everyone happy?
