Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

Interesting. In the almost two and half years I was a (obviously second tier) P1 I was never escorted anywhere at any time by anyone at QF.

This includes numerous visits to the SIN lounge.

If it makes you feel less Plebby HKG was the only lounge where an effort was made to do anything for me as P1 (coming up to 4th year)

Not that I mind that much I am not generally a fan of a fuss being made, escorts and the like that make me feel like I'm acting as a DYKWIA type when that's the last thing I want to be (not to suggest that of anyone else though - that's just how *I* feel :) )

The least they can do is provide some extra service to WP seeing as F lounges were abolished in SIN and HKG

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

When travelling QF, I've always thought a combo EK/QF lounge visit worked quite well:

EK for the quieter atmosphere, better views and better drinks.
QF for the better showers, Australian newspapers, made-to-order dishes (usually quite good) and any flight service matters at the front desks.

BA will be a try for me too in the coming weeks.

That would be good, but sadly only P1 and CL get the special treatment.

At least in HKG there's the option of a CX F Lounge visit (or visiting more than one) which is fantastic to do.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

Apologies, I meant he Emirates lounge..

My post was a tongue-in-cheek to DavidFlynn, who wrote that the Emirates (EK) lounge will close for refurbishment in April, when he meant it's closed until April (as per his AusBT article).

Not sure how you came to be involved but no need to apologise to anyone ;)

I don't even bother with HKG QF lounges for these reasons, CX F pier and wing it is always!
Pier F is my new favourite.

Understand totally. I had dinner at the Pier F before visiting the QF lounge prior to QF30. Without doubt the dining is superior in every way at The Pier, it's more quiet and there's generally better selections of everything. However it's also a fair walk from the (usual) QF gates and again I'll say I was highly impressed with the staff at QF - specially the guys behind the bar who were so friendly and fun in a busy environment and happy to meet requests and even take on that extra espresso Martini after boarding called as a challenge for my temporary lounge pal sitting at the bar.

I was only there for maybe 25-30 minutes, but (and I am not counting the greet from the lounge manager and escort part) I felt there was more personality at QF than at CX.

Of course QF was mobbed given SYD/BNE/MEL were all leaving in the same time frame and I can understand a desire for perhaps somewhere more quiet to wait and possibly with better options depending on one's needs (eg: shower/bath - oh for a blessed Cabana! or a sit down meal or the bubbles bar at The Wing F).

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

Visited the QF SIN lounge last week. Maintain my view that it is at best an average lounge. Service was really good, but food and drink were woeful and the noise even when probably a third full was already uncomfortable.

Pleased to see the fresh dishes were both Asian (Singapore Noodles, and Larb pork). But the noodles were utterly tasteless despite the hostess providing me extra chilli (at her suggestion).

Barely had three mouthfuls so asked for the pork. Much better, but objectively was still only a decent meal:

Was WP at the time so no special treatment (as I've had before) but service was good and bar staff friendly. Told me only coughtail on offer was some vodka and ginger beer concoction. Spirits selection woeful.

Getting too much like a zoo so I beat a hasty retreat to this:

Quiet, peaceful, excellent satay and good Scotch in the regular BA lounge.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

It's a best of both worlds situation with the lounges so close. Enjoy what you like in one then drift over to the other.

I prefer the BA lounge but the food can be hit-and-miss and the bathrooms are cramped (though the shower itself is better). So it's usually QF first then BA.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

For me it has been QF to start then EK ... can't do that currently as the EK lounge is being refurbished, so off to BA it is ...

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

Always my strategy too. EK lounge has the benefit of some natural light and a reasonable view. Always found the food there to be the best of the OW/EK lounges. Haven't been there for over a year now though, so am a bit fearful standards have/will decline as they have a bit in my experience of other EK lounges the past year or so (predominantly AKL).

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

The Dnata lounge (in lieu of EK lounge during renovations) last week had surprisingly really good food choice.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

You have to consider QF business lounges for what they are... reasonably good economy lounges catering to huge volumes of paid QC members in economy. How far does the $400 annual membership fee go for hot food, drinks, lounge rent, staff? Bad luck for the fare paying non-status business class passenger... but they should be invited to the F lounges anyway.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

So having not had any experience with the QF/EK tie up my question is: I'm on QF6 SIN-SYD in J on July. Can I access the QP (obviously), the EK lounge (not sure) and the BA lounge (assume so)?

You have access to all three lounges.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

And any recommendations, ranking of the three?

EK > QF/BA (Tie).

Food and Drink at EK lounges tend to be a step above whats offered at QF J lounges. Plus by the time you fly in July the EK lounge will have been upgraded and refreshed so definitely worth checking out.

The QF Pub becomes pretty rowdy in the late evening, whereas the BA lounge seems to stay relatively quiet in my experience.

I'd rate the SIN lounge better than the MEL QF J lounge .... also consider it better than a number of airlines home port J lounges (TG, GA, MH).

Maybe I frequent too many places with extremely poor lounges (eg CGK, DPS, DAC, etc), to make an unbiased judgement, but I still consider it quite a good lounge. Got to remember it is not an F lounge.

Thanks for that. Being a refurb it sounds like the best spot for myself and Mrs Batesy.

Re: QF Singapore lounge 'enhanced'

That pork mince and rice dish on offer last week was terrible, catering certainly seems to have dropped off.

I still think it is a good lounge. Bloody Mary was the 'coughtail of the day' also when I was there last week.
