Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

But SYD-PER-LHR or SYD-SIN-LHR vs SYD-LHR doesn't involve any partners. You can get to LHR or JFK now on 100% Qantas metal.
Good luck to them. I'll never take this route (starting in BNE or SYD) over a one stop in ME just to pay extra "premium" to be stuck on a QF plane for 22 hrs.

My comments related more the the claim that the direct fligt will save QF partner fees; but they have no partner fees ont he sunrise routes anyway as already fly their own metal the whole wy.

However, personally if flying with one stop I prefer stop over in SIN, HKG or HND much more than the ME; as the two legs are roughly equal rather than one really long leg followed by a very short one.

Not to mention the food is Singapore/HongKong/Japan makes for a yummy stop over and I feel much safer as a single woman in SEA should something unfortunate happen than I would in a culture where women don't have the same rights as men.

However if I can get a classic award on direct in J Im sure it would be fine on Sunrise. I've done DFW-SYD/SYD-DFW multiple times in both Y and J; and LHR-PER in whY and honestly the difference between say 14 hours (SFO-SYD) vs 17-18 isn't noticeable at all. When you're sleeping in J another 2 hours again wont be a problem.

Whether QF can ultimately sustain a 20% premium or this falls to 5-10% will depend on the popularity of the routes.

I've never checked, but wondered if SQ do the same SIN-JFK?
SQ restarted SIN - EWR (Newark) nonstop first with the a350-900 ULR premium config. They then added JFK on top of EWR. This a359ULRvis configured as premium only and theres only Business and Premium Economy.
