Hi everyone, I'm flying on qf30 Hong Kong to Melbourne which leaves at 20:10, and I was wondering how long before my flight I could enter the Qantas lounge? I have 3 complimentary passes for myself and family.
I was going to get there around 4.30?
Many thanks.
Scott

You can enter the lounge at 4.30 - no problem.

You may need to check in at the train station in town as the QF counters at the airport may not accept you until 3 hours before your flight

Awesome, thank you. Is that the qantas check in at the Kowloon train station?

Excellent, thank you. I might drop them off earlier, and have final explore around!

You can drop you bags and check in as early as the day before with Qantas:

MTR > Privileges and Complimentary Services

MTR > In-Town Check-In Counters Information

As you are using the Airport Express (you need to to be eligible for "In Town Check In" (ITCI)) there are discounts if there is more than one traveller in your party.

If any of your family is 11 or under just use their octopus and get a multi person ticket for the remainder, if all 12+, just get a three person ticket.

Ok, got it. Thanks so much for the info.
The MTR has been great. I think we return the octopus cards at the airport as well?

You should not use the Octopus for the return for any PAX using a Group ticket - buy the group ticket at the Station (Central, Kowloon) before entering the ITCI area and use this.

There may be a HKD9 fee if you have had your octopus less than 91 days.

I once got there at 2pm for an 8pm flight because I had nothing else to do in Hong Kong that day and I was let in without issue. However this may not have been possible had I not used in town check in and there will not be as much food out as there will be around 6pm when Qantas passengers start arriving.

Why on earth would you want to spend an entire day in a lounge? Do you mean 16.30?

I always took it as 4:30pm as 4:30am is impractical.

In any case, it's Hong Kong International Airport - if you have *O lounge access rights and like to access lounges then there's a cornucopia of them; enough to last all day. :D

If you just have carry-on (it doesn't sound like this is the case for you, but maybe for others reading this thread) you can simply head to the airport.

If you want to print off your boarding pass there are some counters that you can use to print them off like you would on your printer at home. That's what I did when I was in HKG whereas some other people I knew spent a fair bit of HKD at the airport on food & drink when they could have been in the QF lounge. As I have WP I visited both CX First Lounges before seeing what the QF lounge is like.

The QF lounge in HKG can get quite crowded before the QF flights but it is the best QF international lounge I've visited apart from the FLounges.

Use one standard of times then! The fact he referred to his flight as 20.10 made me assume he was using 24h time.

Consistency is key. I work in aviation and while I prefer 24h time, I can deal with people who don't use 24h time (ie, 4:30pm) - but not when people use both systems in the same sentence! Pick one!

I think complimentary passes only work at the QF Lounge and wouldn't be needed with *O lounge rights .... ??

Sure ... I was generalising.

FWIW if faced with the QF lounge being the only option I would not even consider an early arrival ...

No worries - I reckon I'm "ambitemperous" when it come to reading time. (I don't 'read' the individual numbers/characters, I just look at them as a group [there's a difference].)

I do try for consistency when composing my own dissertations.

Indeed. On the recent AFF HKG lounge crawl I visited the QF lounge for the first time.

After 10 minutes I was ready to move on.
