I recently flew CNS-DRW and noticed how small the galley is. For a two class service the 717 will have to be re-catered every turn. I am predicting 1 cart Y meal, 1 Cart J meal, 1/2 cart J bar, 1/2 cart Y bar, 1/2 cart crew, 1/2 trash. That is the whole galley filled!
Interesting to see what service is offered.

There is only 106 seats in the ex-Mexican aircraft compared to Qantas current 125 so that may help

I'm pretty excited about this, we don't see the 717 much in Melbourne so I'm looking forward to it. I think they should use the 717 in this configuration to increase Melbourne and Sydney to Hobart services too. They used them on MEL-HBA and MEL-LST back in the early 2000s in all economy configuration.

Do we see the 717 in Melb at all ATM?

That comment was back in May when there were limited refurbs, they were geo limited until recently owing to small fleet.

Didn't notice the date. Yes the 125's have new seats but with an indentation in the back of the seat where the screen should be :!:

I would happy if QF use these to increase the number of jet services to CBR and reduce the Dash 8s - not a fan of the Dash so limited choices when flying to SYD currently. There used to be one Dash service from BNE to CBR - not sure if it is still there. Did it once in error - never again!

I wonder if the 717s will do all the CBR shuttles to SYD, MEL & BNE.... They are going to free some Q400 time I expect - will be interesting to see where QF throw that.....?

Looking at forward schedules on the QF website, looks like they will be used for direct canberra to brisbane - and seems they replace the 734's on Canberra - Sydney and Canberra Melbourne. Still a fair few Q400 on canberra - sydney route.

Not sure what is already covered in future announcements but they may replace some older -200s or look to add to PER, given VA now have a monopoly on southern WA turboprop routes.

Not sad at all to see the 734's move on from CBR. The 717 looks the goods.

I don't have a problem with the Dash 8 on the Sydney run as it's so short.

I think I'm always a little nostalgic when an aircraft type leaves the fleet for good!

Having said that I love the 717... Especially those angles on takeoff!!

Well, they don't call it 'The Mockery' for nothing.

Qantas keeps telling us that pax numbers into Tasmania are growing. Last year they brought on an extra HBA-MEL service (albeit with a Dash 8). If this results in an increased frequency of services, then it will probably be a good move. Will relieve congestion in the QF lounge as well (I guess).

The QF announcement says that the QantasLink service will be 'operated by Cobham'), with all staff based in Tasmania (interesting) . I note Cobham are an air charter company out of Adelaide. Anyone know how this will operate? I guess it will be all Qantas colours, just with staff employed by Cobham?

If the jets are also based in Hobart (as implied by the QF announcement) this also gives hope of a re-introduction of early direct flights to Sydney, and late return, allowing a full days work in Sydney, as we used to have.

I think you will find they are replacing the 734/8 services, there will be no retimings and in effect a significant capacity reduction.

You may be right, and pax are being inexorably pushed onto the Orange Cancer (but we won't be - VA is always a good alternative to QF here). When JQ first started, QF proposed to take away ALL QF services into Tasmania, until the pollies and others burred up and we were allowed to hang onto our QF services.

But I hope there's not a net QF capacity reduction. Lets wait and see.
