Qantas First Lounge Spa

Odd question but do they use lotions and oils on your body while providing a massage? If so do you shower afterwards to wash it all off?

Flying AA F out of SYD (11.30 departure).

Asked about spa access at 7am when I arrived

"sorry sir, there's a JNB flight and the spa is fully booked".

JNB leaves at 9.30am ... what about after?! 😫

In case JNB is delayed

They hold spots for the Jnb flight F passengers...if they are not snapped up by the F passengers, then the plebs get a chance ;)

My limited experience with the SYD Flounge as a World Platinum was that it was always highly unlikely you'd get a spa spot on a walk up basis. However, at the MEL Flounge I have been proactively been offered a spa spot. This to me is one of the many reasons why the MEL Flounge is infinitely better than the SYD Flounge.

Gosh the difference would be even more stark now too - there’s at most only 2-3x weekly 380s out of Melbourne vs at least 2 or 3 daily pre covid (sin / dxb-lhr, lax). Syd now has the overwhelming bulk of the 380 departures (still only 4 daily tho)

Sorry about the bump but odds I would get in with CX100? Or are they restricting it to QF flights only.

It's possible if you get there earlier in the morning, say 10am ish, although obviously not guaranteed.

Later than 11am and you'd be up against F pax on QF1 & QF11 arvo departures taking most of the slots.

Your odds at SYD F are close to 0. Syd is just a bit too busy. Sometimes you can't even get a dining table for a while let alone spa.

To date i think I've only had one success at SYD which i let my wife use. A lot more success at MEL F.

Just to confirm, I’m not aware of any restriction on actual flight and Spa access.

As above, timing is everything.

I was actually proactively offered a slot mid morning a year or so ago (and took it). I never bother asking otherwise.

In SYD it's hard to get slots, I've had success as an F pax and being waitlisted for a cancellation when I arrived early. Last time I left MEL for SIN there were on departures with F when I arrived and they had pre-reserved a slot for me (and my +1).

I've never had success at SYD. The lounge host hasn't even looked at the list to see if there was a slot. Had success at MEL last week with a booking about one hour after we arrived at the lounge. Got waitlisted for a second appointment, but that never eventuated.

I’ve had 100% success in 5 visits in the past maybe 6 weeks. Three in SYD as a walk-in. One required being waitlisted but the others were confirmed upon arrival and my request. Most recent was yesterday - arrived in lounge at 2:15pm and was able to get a 3pm slot. Lounge was not too busy at this time.

Just luck and timing I reckon. No harm asking but good to not expect it.

As others have noted MEL is much easier. My two recent visits had a proactive booking already made for me (as a P1). But I also saw/heard the lounge hosts offering spa slots to other guests at the desk or in the restaurant area.

When I get to the Flounge, I ask at the desk @HarryTheFlyer
Tuesday 4 weeks ago, was paged at 12.15pm for a 1pm spa prior to QF1.
No harm in asking as soon as you get there.
I've always asked politely upon entry, but it's a very quick and firm no in SYD, but I was pleasantly surprised in MEL last week.

I've had a fair amount of success in SYD - my last 3 trips (over the past 12 months) only got one knock back and that was for a morning flight to JNB when the lounge was heaving and I didn't really need the appointment. The other twice, I got it as soon as I asked, and on one of those trips, we both got an appointment.

Can’t remember the last time I actually got a spa booking (I always ask at reception). Three weeks ago in Sydney I was told that I was 13th on the waitlist!
Capacity in the spa has not kept up with increasing demand.
