Have you tried doing it in multi-city instead of direct to the destination with DXB the middle? Worked for me with classic - opened up plenty more flights.

The direct option just worked for me, so if by "short stopover" you mean 90 minutes then its all good

Weirdly, Mel-lhr 1 way in first is no problem at about $8400...

Probably part of the "Fares will be aligned in only one direction" explanation.
However, following your lead, just tried a MEL-DXB, DXB-LHR multi-city ... and back to the drawing board.
There must be some simple factor?

A stopover, not a transit. Two nights in Dubai.

Yes, that's about $13,000. But I need only a one-way, as I have a number of other flights booked over the next few months. The one-way, with stopover can be bought for $5,500 on the Emirates site, on the QF flights. Would like to have those flights but with a QF flight number, if there is any way to do that.

Appreciate the input but we have not quite cracked the code as yet.

Thank you. That's actually where I started - but around 900,000 - 1,000,000+ points for this particular route, with the return any time between now and April 2014. Lost interest at that stage, for some strange reason.

I am not sure QFF [-]points[/-] SC's can be earned for T-T travel on EK metal.

I'll double check ...

OK, it seem you can earn points on any eligible EK flight number.

you also can't redeem on T-T EK flights yet, I wouldnt mind a MEL-AKL redemption the A380 with EK in F

Thank YOU, for your research at the time, flychrisfly. Going back to your post 2140, the F plus uogradeable Y option was cheaper even than the fare you found. Fingers crossed that it works. Certainly took a lot of persistence.

Under the new partnership I can either choose to fly to LHR and then back to FRA on BA, or to DXB and then on EK code and metal?! The EK metal part is okay, but not even the choice to pay for the QF code?! Seriously Qantas?

Two really great choices there...
