Saw this in the AFR and this was the only link I could find:

Emirates Flags Tie Up With Qantas -Report | Fox Business

Primarily just code shares - would be great for me and the family to be able to use points to get to DXB. Would also be nice to fly to JED via DXB on EK metal and a QF number - would be worth around 50K points per year to me...

IMHO I see such a tie-up as a good thing for ensuring the QF International business survives. VA is demonstrating that as much as Australian's bluster about wanting everything to be "Aussie" made etc, they have no problems defecting to overseas carriers to save a buck. If this means QF can free up capital to invest in trunk routes for it's own fleet, then I see it as a good move.

I'm guessing Emirates is getting a good deal for the QF codeshares to make up for all the mud-slinging that Qantas has engaged in over their "unfair" advantages for the past decade or so.

Funny you say this, I did a search on expert flyer for MEL-DXB for November as I plan on going there, and I was getting results like this, MEL-SIN QF and SIN-DXB EK...
Which I thought was weird as when I did the search last week I only got options via HKG with QF/CX..

That kind of tactic seems to be par for the course in the airline business. No doubt if EK see a benefit in a partnership they will choose I ignore the past. EK would probably resort to the same dirty tactics if they felt a foreign carrier was threatening their position at DXB.

I know its been said before but it's a goodie so I can't help myself.

Future QFi destinations:

MEL
SYD
LHR
LAX

I see how this would benefit EK as it could connect passengers domestically/trans-taz around AU and NZ but given EK is a wheel and spoke airline and QF dont fly to DXB, apart from the FF benefits how would this benefit Qantas?

Perhaps it's a defensive move against Etihad/VA tie-up.

I think you should scrap LHR and replace it with SIN.
MEL is also shaky.

It is very hard for a Australia/New Zealand based passenger, to fly One World to the Middle East, North/West/East Africa and India.
A codeshare with a middle eastern carrier would fix plenty on the QF Route Map.
Despite my avatar, I was/am hoping Qatar Airways would be that partner.

I'm going to be fairly happy if this all eventuates.

I'd quite happily do a QF codeshare on EK metal. IMHO EK has probably the best HARD F product on the market.

I can quite easily see myself on the way to LHR via DXB in 1A on the EK A380. (After a massage and a meal in th QF F Lounge.)

IF EK opens up Europe why not redirect QFs SYDFRA to DXB notstop.QF then picks up code on DXB to all points in Europe. QF/BA services LHR

QF wouldn't stop servicing FRA would they? Aren't premium loads excellent on that route...

BRING IT

I think that this would be great. Would allow a massive expansion of the network with real reach into the middle east as well as access to new aircraft and world class lounges etc around the world.

I have my fingers crossed!

Also not sure if this is new or not? but when you go to book on the QF website, the dropdown box where you enter your QFF number and other passenger information, Malaysia Airlines is displaying as a Partner airline??

This would be awesome. finally a one stop to loads of places in europe and you avoid the hell that is LHR.
