Whilst we're on questions of consistency (baggage is one), here's a pot stirrer:

Q19 of the FAQ refers to priority check-in. Notice that QF Silvers are not included. But it is a gazetted benefit that QF Silvers can use at least international priority check-in counters, or Business counters.

Cue the not too happy plebians.

FWIW I wonder if EK Silvers get such a benefit.

Hey anat0l

This is just an accidental omission, Silver members will get priority check-in in also.

Cheers,
Red Roo

That was going to be my question also as I hold OWS with BA but only OWR with QF. That being said, it should only really affect passengers who do a stopover in DXB as if they're through traffic then it shouldn't matter?

Well there is a lot of fact and a certain amount of speculation re some of the fine print that is TBA. I think overall it seems pretty good, most of what exists is retained (notable known exceptions SIN-LHR and SIN-FRA on QF), and there is plenty of scope for alternatives via DXB. I imagine while many will look and feel a little disappointment that a certain favoured route may be unavailable, there is sufficient alternative that with a little planning and modification, then most will find one.

So subject to satisfactory fine print (esp. details on SC earning on EK flights - that may carry a little weight with some members here :p), it seems pretty good overall.

Oh, and prices - will be interesting to see how these pan out. Just did a dummy booking for MEL-SIN-LHR rt on QF for Nov dates - cheapest J fare ~AUD9630, and EK MEL-DXB-LHR rt same dates - cheapest J fare AUD7970

This was going to be my other point, also. I can see that the cheap(er) J/F fares we've been enjoying on EK will either go, or will remain, but only on EK codes (QF codes more).

I really struggle to see what EK is really getting out of this, the cons seem to outweigh the pros IMHO.

Greetings one and all!

Personally, I think this is the best news (hopefully I'm not disappointed by the detail). The opportunities for 1 stop connections to Europe are fantastic - in fact the lack of these connections in the past is the reason I have never flown QF to Europe unless my destination was London.

I'm a QF and EK regular and suffer from chronic economyclassitis and for those wary of Emirates, I can assure you there is nothing to fear from EK's 777s (maybe I'm a freak, but I prefer the 777 J seats to their 380s), cabin service or Dubai.

I can't wait for April next year!! :D

This is looking good, I am encouraged by the AJ speech today.

Streamlined benefits on EK and the retainment of the AY codeshare mean I'm a happy WP right now.

Forgive me for being ignorant, but regarding DXB lounges: do they serve alcohol there? How about on EK metal flights, is there any alcohol on board at all?

With this many flights to Australia access to the domestic market is a huge benefit

Pardon my ignorance, but I read somewhere that Middle Eastern airlines don't serve alcohol onboard around Ramadan. Does that mean no champagne on QF flights to Europe around this time?

Qantas wasn't a Middle Eastern airline last time I checked.

Alcohol is freely available in all EK lounges and flights.

As for Dubai, don't walk down the street with a beer in one's hand (a la 'Vegas) and otherwise in public.

Alcohol in Dubai

Completely wrong. I quoted their website several pages ago that non Muslims would receive normal service during Ramadan.

I am all up for this partnership, makes using points for where you want to go hopefully easier. Only problem is I have no real desire to go to Dubai as a stopover, much prefer Asia or even Amman. Oh well beggars can't be choosers

Neither Thailand or Singapore, as far as I'm aware though execute people based on sexual preference either.
Not a capital offence in Dubai either, only ten years in prison.
Still makes it something of a haven from its more righteous neighbours though.
