Qantas / Emirates tie up (Partnership inc. Codeshare, Status)

We wouldn't change but given Qantas said they were changing schedules to maximise in and out times, thought they may try shift us to Dubai.

I thought that just meant better/day service between asia and Australia as they will no longer need to coordinate with services Asia to Europe. I guess there is a risk of a longer stopover in SIN.

Am I reading the FAQ (No 17) correctly that there will be no more QF A380s to SIN? If so, I need MH to join OW asap. Does anyone know when this is really going to happen? Originally it was to be mid-2012; then late 2012 ... I'm feeling a bit cynical.

All I can say is that if this had occurred a month ago it really would have changed the 600000 post results.:p;)

True - Would love a daytime flight from Singapore instead of that dreadful 7 hour night time one esp in Y where they wake you 2 hours before arrival just to serve you a cold roll for breakfast!

Looks like Qantas Club members will still be in the lurch. I don't think they'll be welcomed highly through the EK system. Can't imagine EK bending over allowing standard elite benefits to someone that "just pays" for it (apologies to those of you who have lifetime QP, but that will be the guts of the inevitable negotiation).

I think the partnership is promising..... on face value. It seems to try to mirror what VA and EY have done, hopefully it will do so... and then some would be nice.

I would like to think that one of the barriers to QF customers travelling on EK (whether as a codeshare or on bona fide EK ticket stock) is not Middle Eastern xenophobia?

I wonder how this effects the OW RTW Award?

Makes it very hard to use if the Emirates flights can't be used with the termination of other flights to Europe.

Maybe they will allow the QF code shares on Emirates to count and you only need 2 OW airlines to be eligible. If so this is great for the product as heaps more options / destinations, if not it becomes a lot less useful :(

I thought QF will still fly their A380 from SYD-SIN??

Markis10 thanks for telling me what I think I want to hear, which actually wasn't the case. But again thanks for pointing it out.

So appears I mis-heard what was said. My apologies people.

I was hoping to hear about SCs, but not expecting to ;)

Hi everyone,

Wow, lots of comments to read through! Just to answer a few of your questions
While a lot of work has been done and a lot worked out already, it is a big partnership and there are still a few elements the team are working on to finalise things.

- Qantas will contact you to discuss options if you have a flight affected by the changes. We will do this well before your travel date.
- We will load schedules, fares and inventory as soon as we are able. As soon as they are in, you will be able to make Classic Award bookings
- As with all our partners, you will earn SC as long as booked on QF flight numbers

Any particular questions, I am around to answer.

Cheers,
Red Roo

This is all very interesting, though it forces me to start re-planning trips in April and July next year, as I was going to take advantage of stopovers in SIN to visit KUL. Once QF's multi-city engine actually recognises DXB as a destination, I'll be curious to see what the prices are like SYD-SIN-DXB-LHR in comparison with SIN-LHR on BA.

A few questions if anyone has any answers (EDIT: this now includes Red Roo - welcome back!):

1) Will QF still codeshare on BA SIN/HKG/BKK-LHR? Their FAQ states that there will still be options via Asia on their OW/CS partners, but doesn't address this specifically. The ongoing presence of a codeshare on these services would negate the reduction in points earn on the BA code services (excl. HKG-LHR where the points earn is already 0.25 in Y on the BA code)
2) What happens to the recently-announced increased WP/SG baggage allowance on BA? Was this part of the JSA, or was this a separate deal that will remain?

Finally, I hope that S7 find a new way of ticketing Oz->Europe now that the FRA services are being cancelled... some of you will know what I'm talking about here ;)

Judging by the 76 members currently on the thread I think a few folks are on an extended smoko :D
I'm safely tucked up in the SYD J Lounge and all my i -thingies are on fire ;)

Hope not.
I booked a trip in June 2013 on QF in J to LHR via SIN... paid more specifically to be on the A380 (as you do). If they're going to replace that with a different aircraft, or one with Skybed MkI, I'll be pretty peeved. Wouldn't have booked otherwise.

Just catching up here and from reading one of the ASX releases, I've found that they have put a "limit" on the partnership of 10 years?

Is this like signing a pre-nup before a marriage or is it more like "we have to put a limit for the pencil pushers but we'll have a rubber stamp always on the ready"?

Doesn't spruik a lot of confidence if this is only a flash in the pan thing (10 years albeit).

Is there any time frame for the above answers? Days, months etc etc? :)

A few things will come out of this tie up, Lounge access to EK lounges is if you fly Buisness class or higher, what about QC members?, skyward points expire, not like QFF points,be interesting to see if these points get sorted.

The FAQs offer some insight, particularly 23 and 25. To me, the answer to question 23 says Qantas Club members will have EK lounge access.

Quite okay, nlagalle. There's been a whole heap of information surfacing this morning and it pays to remember we're living in a world of selectively placed commas, similar words and terms with different meanings and tiny footnotes that can drastically change the meaning of the main text.
