Qantas Courtesy Upgrade Love

It seems like this 'surprise and delight' op-up program is incredibly limited in its scope.

Almost exclusively golden triangle routes and even then not overly common.

That is what I’m thinking. I wonder also if it is Australian based members who only get them? I know I don’t travel as much as others but I’ve had 8 sectors since August and nothing. Not even a points upgrade has cleared.

I'm not an Australian.

SYD-AKL - nothing again, points upgrade didn’t come through and didn’t get notified like usual. Find that the Qantas First lounge in Sydney staff talk to me like I’m an idiot about the points upgrades. Told me to check at the gate. At the gate I was told to check in the lounge. Seemed a bit silly.

Too late for the lounge already?
Was in the lounge for 4 hours but the guy told me to wait until boarding…then I went back before boarding he said to check at the gate. I always get the same guy…feel like he just fobs me off. Do the lounge staff have any control over upgrades?

Wondering if booking channel plays a role too. Those using some corporate travel agency for work may get some extra attention...
For what it s worth, I got some good success last year and this year,

Don t think they have control. Best case scenario they might tell you were you are in the queue.

Yeah actually didn’t think about that! I book all my own travel through the QF website.

Ok thanks - last two times I’ve been there and got the same guy…he makes it feel like he’s been massively imposed on when I ask!

I figure, if I haven't got the upgrade 24 hours before check-in opens, it's a write-off ... I've only ever had 1, maybe 2 upgrades come through after I've checked in ... so get your head right, and deal with Economy :) ... anything after check-in is a bonus.

My business travel on Qantas is booked through a travel agent owned by Air NZ!
