I am silver and cant remember getting further forward than 10.
Have secured Row 4 countless times @T-80.
Occasionally get someone (including a giant of a man once who sat in 4B while his slip of a wife sat in 4C!) in 4B/E but usually empty.

Of course so many of my domestic flights are in peak hour so to speak. Have to try a few flights at quieter times to see how far forward I can get.

Gold can get into row 4 at anytime from T-80 hours on. I think Silver can as well. You calll that eligible PCV? A soft block for a Platinum should stick and not be able to be broken by someone of lesser status.

We are not likely to agree on this one and I would like to see proof of your theory at the airport before I accept it.

Rubbish. As a WP there are many times when row 4 seats are soft blocked and I can never get into them. This is only possible when the flight fills up and I've often seen the row 4 middle seats to be some of the last to be filled. Case in point QF 785 last Thursday night.

Prior to November when I was silver, I've managed to snap up row 4 seats at T-80 on the following flights:

Yes, but as PS you PCV would likely be higher than that of an NB and as other seats are allocated by PAX higher PCV you move up the pecking order.

I am saying an NB would have likely not got near these seats without manual intervention.

It is correct that manually linked PNRs will not have access to higher tiered members seating online prior to to online checkin. It can be done on the phone though. During online checkin however when the higher ranked pax enters their booking reference to checkin the other passenger will appear as if in the same booking and will have access to the same seating.

Could JohnK be experiencing high status (WP) but low PCV (red e-deals)?

I'll let you know late 2014 when I drop to NB due reduction in flying in retirement .
Used to have a pal in QF who bumped deadheading FA's out of J and row 4 in favour of a couple of us with mid/high QP status, but he's gone - due manual intervention??.

Most of my work trips in the last two years have been SYD-MEL-SYD and SYD-CBR-SYD, generally out before 7:30am and back after 5pm. I have tried T-80, and set up alerts on Expert Flyer, but still never managed the front rows.

That could be a possible explanation.

I am still going with my pot luck theory. You win some. You lose some.

I regularly fly MOV - BNE and back, usually with one or more offspring. Only economy seats available on these QantasLink flights.

At T-24 when OLCI is available the first 4 rows usually show one seat available and the seat beside unavailable.

Because I'm not alone I can usually only select rows 5 to 19 (Q400), and when we take off on many occasions most of these rows are completely empty. And when on my own I happily select 1B :)

My theory is that they keep these seats for fully flexible or last minute big $ fares, or maybe even to simply spread the loading on the aircraft??

I thinks it's more a case of often blocking the forward rows for weight and balance reasons so it's not unusual to have some of the forward rows blocked off for trim.

The Qlink staff may in certain circumstances be able to either unblock one of those seats provided they block of another seat in that zone or contact their load controller for that flight who would advise if unblocking a particular seat was okay to do ie not impact on the weight and balance of the aircraft.
