FA came around to take drinks orders before we departed. I asked if they had a Riesling aboard. Puzzled look. Riesling? Don’t know that one, sorry. (i’m not making this up, promise) Me: What white wines do you have today? He: Chardonnay and rosé.

Why does everyone always stock Chardonnay and then maybe a random some other variety? I went a G&T and then a Pinot Noir with the meal.

I’m not big on dumplings but always willing to give something a go

I had the barramundi with no picture so you can take it that it was pretty good.

Just before we landed, it was either a cheeseboard or fish cakes

On the IFE, I noticed there were wine tasting notes. Would you believe they had about six Rieslings listed? It’s a pity they never seem to stock any of them ( there was an exception recently IIRC).

I reflected on the meal experience and have to say it was pretty good but then again pretty good within the Qantas envelope.

I provided some “feedback” to the CSM on a HKG flight recently that Rose isn’t white wine.

It’s nothing as far as I’m concerned…😔

Yes, Chardonnay was the only actual white…but pleasant enough.

Otherwise, your food menu looks and sounds quite decent.
 
This week I flew in Business on a 13 hour JAL flight, departing 10am port of departure time.

Lunch was proactively served (along with the offer to delay this to my preferred time), detailed in a menu booklet along with beverages and 'snacks'. Any inflight snack or drink menu item could be ordered via the IFE at any time up to 90 minutes before arrival. This included beverages.

I haven't flown to/from PER in a while but have found the quality of the wine options on QF biz, both domestically and internationally, has really declined significantly.
Lots of the same old producers again and again (does Qantas have shares in Forest Hill estate?!) and minimal choice. You'd think that on long-haul at least, Qantas could manage to offer a pinot noir occasionally in addition to the omnipresent heavy shiraz (especially given all the trends in wine consumption point to people preferring lighter reds) but QF is stuck in a time warp. No shade to anyone who enjoys classic Aussie shiraz - but it would be nice to have some choice.
Only having one red these days in J is a bit of a joke, sadly like most Austrian institutions Qantas relies on faded glory and barriers to competition..
 
Interesting to read the various accounts of CGK-SYD breakfast being just a muffin or some fruit. When we flew it in July we had the usual breakfast order form. Though I also thought our dinner/supper menu was more abbreviated than what's been posted here, so maybe they've increased the complexity of the dinner at the same time as simplifying the breakfast?

I chose the express option anyway, of being woken as late as possible with a coffee and whatever the snack was. And because I'm a geek who likes to track how much sleep I get on flights, I can confirm I managed 3'59" between dinner and breakfast (that's time with eyes closed, not necessarily actual sleep). Though I think I may have skipped dessert, to wrap up dinner faster.

My 2c is that I'd like to at least have the option of a proper breakfast on those flights, as with earplugs and eyeshades I can easily sleep through a breakfast service happening around me. Though even better is to avoid those short redeyes - so on our return from DPS later this year we've scored cheap J-class DPS-KUL-SYD fares, so I'm looking forward to trying MH's A330neo cabin.

Agree that rose is NOT white. Given its huge growth in popularity over the last few years I actually think it's a smart move on QF's part to serve it - but it should be an additional choice, not cannibalising one of the white wine offerings.

I've actually often been served Riesling in QF J, both domestically and long-haul (I was impressed that they were serving Grosset Polish Hill on a SYD-SFO flight back in mid-2024) though come to think of it I don't think I've seen it very recently.

I hope that at least the chardy on offer was better than the el-cheapo Cape Mentelle 'Marmaduke' served on DFW-SYD in J last month (with the only alternative white a cheap and bland gruner veltliner from Adelaide Hills).

Trays containing the "salad" and bread were handed out to everyone, with an explanation "mains will be served later". 20 minutes later, the CSM came around with mains (beef noodles, and chicken with roast vegtables).

I was seated in 2C.

Saw the CSM drop off the beef noodles to 1D, and started serving 1F. Once he finished serving 1F, the guy in 1D said he wanted the alternative option - so the CSM picked up the beef noodles using a dish hook, and bought it over to myself and 2A - asking if we wanted the beef noodles, as there wasn't any other option available. He ended up plonking the dish (previously sitting on 1A's tray for a few minutes) in front of the woman in 2A.

I ended up taking a chicken salad from economy.

The CSM could barely function - came around handing out ice creams whilst everyone was still eating their mains (no plating) - with word to "just let them defrost". Turned off the lights as soon as he could, and went back to the back galley for the rest of the flight.

Couldn't believe they ran out of options for the entirety of row two onwards.

I'd have thought Covid reminded people that transferring one plate from one person to another was just not on. I'd have refused it. Probably with a lip curl.

On the other hand those ice creams are rock hard. Maybe that timing wasn't so bad 😂
