yup, I also had the chicken stir fry. This one looked less appealing than the picture above but I must say it was tasty and pretty filling for a shortish flight. chicken was tender and flavoured well with the giner. I enjoyed this one.


OOL-SYD 1200 departure


Described as a basmati butter chicken with rice... I'm not so sure about butter chicken, but again it was fairly tasty. wine good ol' Shaw & Smith

SYD-MEL 1730 departure (delayed about 90min)



Despite the looks this pasta was delicious. described as "pasta with bolagnaise sause" (with obviously veg thrown in) it was hearty and again filling, tasted great (and even kind of fresh) and a lovely dinner offering.


My thought is based on the past few weeks that catering has possibly improved a smidge (don't all get too excited) with the latest change. It may just be a fluke on my flights, but I was happy with serving sizes and flavour of meals provided for relatively short sectors.

I fly again in December so will be interesting to see what I get on very similar flights.

I was on QF637 and got this Pork Rigatoni (thinking of you, Berlin) tonight; tasty indeed, served with a decent drop of red - LAMBROOK Cab Sav (ADL Hills) cool climate, quite bold, a little cheeky as some would say. I think it's a good altitude wine; I haven't knocked it back at sea level - note to self - must try again.

I was in J on a very delayed MEL-SYD flight the other night that managed to just get in before curfew, because the plane was late in to MEL and we had to rush out of there to make it in time no catering was loaded. Sydney was operating on one runway which caused delays, so not entirely Qantas's fault, but then again they had cancelled a third of the flights (presumably clawing back revenue), making it impossible to move to an earlier flight.

Am I entitled to any compensation? Sorry if this isn't the right forum, it seemed like the best one from a search!

Depends when the flights were cancelled.. if on the day it was probably due to the very same runway issue in SYD.

Possibly.. but honestly why bother? if your flight was delayed, and I will assume you were in J, then you would have had more time in the lounge to eat... well.. things. Yes, it sounds very delayed getting into SYD after 10pm so options on arrival would be minimal I guess.. but I don't know.. an hour flight with no food? most can deal with that.

Having said that.. no harm in asking QF.. you might get some courtesy points or something. Personally I wouldn't worry about it (but I probably would have been full from spice bar lol)

Friday's QF93 MEL-LAX. Crew on this flight was wonderful. They also took food orders in seemingly status order (I think there were only 2 WPs in the J mini cabin), and the CSM came to talk to me multiple times to ensure everything was going well. Also they never locked the 787 windows

You did the right thing - never try the beef. It's one of the few things QF delivers consistently on.

Here's dinner on QF149 from SYD-AKL, a B737 service with a full passenger load in J.

PDB served once the Y passengers had finished boarding, went with a champagne.



For dinner there was a choice of smoked pork pasta with pepper sauce, chicken salad with quinoa and green chilli dressing or beef brisket with green pepper sauce all served with focaccia, a Lindor ball and carrot cake.

I chose the brisket, which seemed to be the most popular choice. I was in 2C and by the time the FA reached row 3 they were all gone. Meal was decent although I thought it was under-seasoned, I needed to rip open the little salt packet which is something I almost never do! Carrot cake was delightful.

Service was great, our FA Prajjwal came around to take orders while the meals were being heated then brought the trolley out to distribute, which seemed pretty efficient and I think was welcome by passengers since our takeoff from Sydney was delayed by more than an hour from 7:15pm to closer to 8:45pm.



Drink top ups were offered, I started with a (very strong!) gin and tonic but switched to a shiraz which was also very good.



All in all a nice dinner on the way to Auckland. The flight back was on an A330, will post that shortly.

QF 1517, a B717 J service between CBR-MEL dep 1155 today. Got the same old toasted sandwich. They tried to up sell it as a Croque Monsieur, but it was totally disgusting, as shown by the before and after photos I attach. I literally managed 2 bites. Soggy, steamed bread, no crunch anywhere, bread extremely thick and not much taste in the filling. Yuck. And especially as the Business lounge offering in Canberra is now.....toasties. I am totally over this poor standard of catering. My lunch was a Lindt ball and 2 glasses of wine (oh dear!!!)

And yes I know it's a short flight, but I was off straight away to a family catch up and only now having a go at paying for something decent to eat.

Been a while when I flew BusinessFirst on QF but had the spare QFF points laying around and having booked the flight many months out meant I could get a confirmed upgrade to J on my red e-deal fare. Dinner service was okay but nothing exceptional, especially for BusinessFirst.

Similar situation, an upgrade using points many months in advance. This meal was slightly better but again, could've been better for BusinessFirst service. On the plus side this was on an A330 with lie-flat seats and I managed to secure the throne seat on the plane (seat 7A).

You had exactly the same food as me (well I did do SYD-MEL on 18th also) so makes sense the same offerings on rotation.

I'm not too sure why you refer to "BusinessFirst"? Though I recall that as a CO branding many years back. It's domestic business, and on a one hour flight I find these meals pretty good tbh.

I used to fly United a lot (at least before COVID) so was used to that terminology a decent amount having spoken to call centre and gate agents. Old habits die hard I guess!

Noted! I didn't catch that typo which admittedly isn't surprising given the number of times QF has been changing my itineraries around in recent times!

As someone who has flown JetStar a number of times, I take offence to your comparison of this thing against the toasties on offer on JetStar. Where's the meat? Where's the cheese? Say what you will about JetStar's catering but at least you are getting some value for your money!

Its a shame that one can be WP or P1 and have enough SC to have earned LTG 3 or 4 times over but still get served the same slop QF serves up to everyone else.. QF inflight "cuisine" is the great leveller

and imagine the screams if some pax got xyz "special" meal and others didn't in the same cabin?

Status should have nothing to do with it. it's the catering that should be (obviously!) improved.

I still stand by my personal experiences (but they have been dinner flights so "better" than those snacky flights with toasties and pasties and the like) that the food offered has improved a little bit (to me). Not saying much mind you, but still reasonable - specially for the shorter length flights. Of course many flights do not get the same levels of catering which I accept.

As an aside.. when did QF do away with the soup option? did it go away with Covid? used to always be a thermos of soup of some sort or another on most flights post brekky and some of them were pretty good.

I just feel sorry for the crew that have to serve the stuff with a straight face... At least in whY they can drop and move on before pax has a chance to open the box
