can anyone tell me which QF aircraft will be fitted for premium econmy by April 07 ( SYD-LHR )

simongr, I was talking to the server administrator where I host the QFlyer pages and apparently there was an issue with some hosted websites last year being compromised due to some badly written PHP pages. As a result, he informs me that several "phishing" sites managed to land on the same box as QFlyer is hosted. Apparently all sites have been removed and there is no longer any risk of phishing sites reappearing. You'll need to contact the administrator of your web proxy and have them add an exception in, as well as notifying the people that manufacture the filter software to ensure it is removed as a possible phishing site. There are no phishing sites anywhere on icns.com.au.

kiwitripper64, I gather you have already noted by now that 747-400 VH-OJK is the first aircraft to receive Premium Economy. The aircraft is currently offline receiving the upgrade, and subject to there being no operational or technical delays, should be back in flying service in a little over 2 weeks.

The aircraft is expected to be dedicated to QF1/2 SYD-LHR-SYD flying for some time. Of course it’s not physically possible for this aircraft to operate SYD-LHR each day, so look out for it operating at the bare maximum, 2 SYD-LHR services a week. The aircraft will operate as 14F/50J/287Y, with the Y+ seating being allocated to people with status or more flexible fares. That’s not to say that they may not allocate the seats on a first serve basis though.

If you want to check if you will be flying on the Premium Economy equipped aircraft, please post your flight details via PM, here or the contact address at QFlyer (only if you are comfortable with doing so).

Cheers

Thanks for help with this
We are planning trip QF1 SYD-LHR leaving on or around Sat 26/4/08
return 30/4 QF2

I would consider moving dates to chance Y+, but would need to know if QF still settling into Y+ programme or charging for seats at this time.
thanks

Thanks for that - I had assumed that there were no phishing sites there and did not mean to imply that there were - just that our webfilters (which are a total pain) had blocked them. Not sure how well asking for it tobe unblocked would go down - hard to find teh business justification. Now if you were tracking all OW airlines - that would have some business justification for me :p

QF is charging exhorbintant premium economy airfares from 01/04/08. These airfares have been on sale for a few months already.

Unless you want to move your trip back to March you will not get a free trial of premium economy. Then there is also the possibility of an op-up to premium economy in April but your chances of winning the lottery are just as good....

Hi, does anyone know anything about this new QF Premium Economy? What galls me is the blatantly dishonest advertising of this new seating. Surely I am not the only one to have noticed the carefully photographed mock ups. Looking at these pictures, you would think you had all the space in the world. I am sure that the reality is going to be totally different. There is not a single photo anywhere showing the cabin, how far apart the seats are and just how much leg room you will really get. Yesterday's glossy advertising brochure in the Age Melbourne magazine emphasised food, baggage, entertainment etc. and pretty pictures but no facts on actual space and legroom. Interesting!

One can be mistaken for thinking that there are only 2 seats in this cabin by all the advertising. The road to Melbourne airport is an onslaught of billboards for premium economy and Qantas must be using the same marketing company as Jetstar do for their 'BUSINESS CLASS AT ECONOMY PRICING' aka *class.
The prices as per the previous posts are over the top and only look like OK value when compared to J due to QF price creep on J seats in the last 12+ months (which of course they aren't).

The Y+ cabin will only be 4-5 rows as it has been mentioned that it will be between 32-40 premium economy seats in a 2-4-2 configuration.

If it is anything like BA World Traveller Plus then you will only get around 7 inches more leg room, a slightly wider seat, more recline which is also worse for the person behind and a dedicated cabin with no dedicated flight attendant. The food is the same as WHY and the service in this mini cabin is mediocre at best but mainly poor.

I can only hope that QF tries a little harder with Y+ considering the exhorbitant prices they are charging but somehow I think it will be no different to BA WT+. If you are a high status frequent flyer you will probably be better off in an exit row or bulkhead in WHY.

Qantas advertising for their Y+ product indicates the catering is different to that provided in economy.

The pictures in the ads certainly show much better than cattle class catering. Then again we all know about advertising spin. :(

Everything I've read has indicated QF premium economy will have amongst the largest amount of leg room of any premium economy product in the world.Additionally it suggests improved catering, and a dedicated flight attendant. On this basis I would suggest it will be better than BA PE. Hence the price.

I got the impression from what they have publised that it was quite a cut above the normal economy product, but as as been pointed out, it may be marketing spin. I do hope they do it properly and it justifies the price tag that has been applied to it.

(I have also heard they found some corrosion in the first aircraft that was being fitted with PE, and this delayed the fitout a bit. Not sure exaclty where the corrosion was but am guessing somewhere around the PE area of the plane.)

Personally I think most seat advertising is like this. I would say that the majority of seat photos are of a single row of seats with super happy people relaxing or enjoying the service.

I think that its a product of -

1. Airlines trying to maximise their ROI by showing you their product in the best possible way

2. Maximising the best photographic angles & lighting etc

I hope hotels don't catch on to the practice of showing pictures of rooms taken with the best lighting etc. I would hate to think that the pictures of the rooms looked better than the actual thing

Well being a photography buff, seeing the hotel room photos and comparing the actual thing - the only way they could be the same thing (in some cases) would be to stand on a ladder in the corner of a room with a wide angle lense and then straighten out the image with Photoshop (should it be required).

I still think people are better off just buying two seats through QF phone sales. You get twice the FF points (according to the Qantas FAQ's) and if you can put the armrest up TWICE the seat width.

if you're getting Y meals anyway.. why is Y+ better than this idea?
