Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

The health advice probably should be, if you can live off food without resupply for 14 days, you're eating too much processed food.

Thankfully no such silly rules on home quarantine in NSW. Apartments are allowed, deliveries left at door allowed and only 7 days, so no need to live without fresh food for 2 weeks.

I hope that NSW and VIC can open to international together. It’d be a good reward for both states

NSW will open ahead of Vic as will hit 80% by 18th October, and flights already confirmed for mid November.

In order to be considered “suitable” a home quarantine trial candidate must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, be prepared to travel after October 11, must fly into Brisbane, and live in one of eight southeast Queensland council areas.

Those are, Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Ipswich, Logan, Gold Coast, and the Redlands excluding its adjoining islands.

Queensland Health forms state a “suitable” home quarantine site must be a “freestanding” private dwelling with no shared common areas accessible by other people, ruling out those that live in apartments.

Those undertaking the home quarantine trial will have to declare that they have enough food and provisions to last 14 days before they arrive home.

They must also turn up to get tested four times by going to a drive-through clinic in their own car on day 1, 5, 12 and 14 of quarantine.

Anyone who normally lives at the home must either agree to also go into quarantine or live somewhere else for two weeks.

Thank you. So Airbnb are privately owned - just not by the traveler so as long as it’s free standing it seems to fit the requirement.

The requirement to have enough food for 14 days is odd - do Woolworths / Uber Eats not do contactless delivery in Queensland?
They are paranoid, probably think people will sneak in their mates disguised as delivery drivers.

I actually have 14 days of canned food/pasta in a safe place. Just in case there was a snap lockdown. I didn't want to get stuck paying full price for expensive brands like last year. We are retired and can meet these requirements but I can't see other than retirees or WFH people doing this. But it is still better than hotel quarantine and we have a nice backyard and small deck to get fresh air. I would take up this deal if it got me overseas sooner.

So Qld home quarantine is only for those wealthy enough to live in a house and own a car - discriminatory on so many levels, cant see it holding up long term.

Not everyone has a drivers license or car to attend drive through test sites.

If your staying inside your apartment it makes no difference if there are common areas as you'd only be transversing them masked to go from vehicle to your door and then when going out to get tested (which could be avoided if self administered kits were used and left outside door for collection).

Or have a big freezer. I have 21 days of meat right now because I buy the marked down stuff in bulk when I see it and I got lucky a few days ago. I specifically chose a fridge with a large freezer for this. We would have to go tinned or frozen fruit veg but it's only 14 days and I would do it if it was the only way to travel and come back.

Sure, but its a trial and they are abviously unwilling to introduce too many variables.

The health advice also mentioned that if you don't provision enough food for 14 days and run out, going hungry for a few days isn't a bad because as a population we're generally on the overweight side.
The health advice also has a footnote to say if the above situation were to occur, running out of TP also isn't an issue given you're not eating anyway....

NSW is a Pilot and not a trial, maybe that is why NSW have catered for the large % of the suburban population that live in multi dwelling units (apartments and townhouses) within 2 hours of SYD.

Does seem funny Qld consider it safe to do HQ (given the number of leaks) but not at home in a apartment. And this is for domestic travel, where as NSW pilot is for international arrivals. So far behind where they need to be.

I read somewhere that there are no deliveries allowed under this trial of home quarantine. I mean, that's pretty ridiculous for anyone with any experience in getting a delivery! Even when I'm home, the couriers always just leave the parcel and never bother ringing the doorbell!

And, as the headline says, it is only for people coming from interstate, not overseas unfortunately. So all these posts are in the wrong thread 🤭.

the conditions for the trial are typically over the top.

One disadvantage of Australian quarantine requirements (remember that other "quarantine" stuff we used to worry about) ;)

When we go back to Singapore in 7 days home isolation, we'll simply pack our cooler bags with meat and dairy, and pack some carry ons with fresh produce and we'll be pretty much OK for 7 days . 🤣 Even though deliveries are allowed.

In NSW it is also only 7 days for fully vaccinated arrivals and deliveries allowed, Qld is an outlier.

I've been wondering about travel insurance for international travel, what protections might be available, hasn't been too much coverage but saw this today

Its been my policy for over a year now to only book flexible options
