I have been asked to show my WP card at a CX FLounge in HKG for instance.

Technically you are meant to carry the WP card with you and be prepared to show it. They may/may not choose to ask to see it. They will definitely need to see your boarding pass.

Well that's one lounge not operated by QF.

It is interesting though they would ask. As long as the BP you have shows the OWE (Emerald) status there's no issue. My last visit to 3 HKG lounges in May, using an AY generated BP had zero issues or requiring showing of a card.

and for QF lounges, again they go on the status on the BP also. Never once been asked there.

Only time I use the card now in relation to lounges is for post flight pit stops in domestic lounges.

Maybe it's because I used one of the desks at the airport to print off my boarding pass on an A4 page so I didn't have to wait for check in to open and could see what the CX Pier and Wing F Lounges were like. I was asked for my card at the Wing F lounge. This was for the flight for which I've had my only failed upgrade request so far.

Just wondering if this includes sc obtained via other OW carriers. It seems to indicate it is inclusive. Yet the loyalty bonuses exclude OW sc earn (or is that because I bought the ticket from QR? I wanted to choose my seat! + good price and deal with the operating airline if there were issues). I feel like I have orphaned sc! Have some BA flights bought via BA next yr.

Just toying with idea of making 2400 a target.

Hi Ms Kiwi

QF website used to say 2400 needed to be on QF/JQ, but this has now been changed so any SC's earned via QF/JQ/oneworld and FJ should qualify for 2400 (I'm not entirely certain if the loyalty bonus SC's qualify or not but think they may do).

So yes I think QR and BA flights should definitely get you SC's to 2400.

That's weird! I was in HKG yesterday and visited The Pier/Cabin/Wing/Bridge (I had 6hrs) and none requested my QF card (OWE was on the BP).

Certainly been my experience at Business lounges. I would think requests for the card would be the exception rather than the rule.

When my FF status has printed on my boarding pass I have never once been asked to produce my FF card. This has been my experience at EK, CX and JL lounges, besides QF.

How did you go with the single lounge invitation. Did you hand it into the first lounge you visited, then just presented the BP for the subsequent lounges. When I went to the Wing F in November (flying CX), I was asked for my invite and when I told the lounge dragon I was also going to The Pier F, she asked for my BP (with OWE on it) and stamped a "re-entry" stamp on it. Is that stamp not really required for the CX or OW lounges in HKG then?

TPE CX lounge (flying MH) wouldn't even let me in without surrendering the invite and when told I wanted to go to the CI F for some Moutard, lounge dragon said I had to choose one or the other but not both, even after I showed him the BP had OWE printed on it. He said the invite is how they charge MH for my access.

They just scanned my BP on every occasion. They never asked for the lounge invite and I've still got it.

IMHO I find the Yarra Burn undrinkable. Grant Burge any day, or water thanks.

On my last domestic J flight no J class wine was loaded in ADL. It was a morning refreshment run and I was headed for five hours in SYD F, so no big deal for me. But those wanting to indulge then Yarra Burn wasn't even there, bad or not.

Re Yarra Burns (which does Burn as it goes down!)

I've related this story before, but I'll post again because I loved it :)

I was on a domestic sector, I think SYD-MEL in J maybe 5 years ago. For some reason I was feeling in a mood for bubbles and despite being wary I asked if they had any *Champagne* loaded.

Well the FA, in a very strong French accent (something you don't normally come across on dom) said in a manner that only a real French person could manage to get away with "No sir, we do not have CHAMPAGNE on board this flight, we have Sparkling Wine"(the later said with the appropriate disdain usually reserved for all things inferior and not worthy)... I said OK I'll give it a go anyway. She gave me a look like "It's your funeral" ... and boy was she ever right. It was the Burns. ick!

Well it's rare that I ring QF membership services (usually a OWA issue) I have noted a big differences between calls when a Gold member and Platinum member. The award change fee was (rightly) waived when calling as a WP but struggled to get waived as SG despite situation (online system issue) being the same.

Also I find that QF staff took much more time with me as WP trying to fix my issue. I'm not saying I had a bad service as a SG but it was noticeably better (above and beyond) as a WP in my experience.

Sometimes it can be personal emotions clouding it too not just the status

Interesting experience this morning and yes I know there's inconsistency but this is one of the reasons I am mainly loyal to Qantas.

Had an 8:30am flight SYD-BNE this morning with wife and daughter on same flight but separate booking visible from my profile. Had checked luggage + baby stroller/pram.

Got to SYD airport at ~8:02am, clearly knowing I'd missed checked baggage cutoff, and rushed out of car towards checkin kiosks but no staff around. Rushed to counter and saw 2 staff patrolling priority checkin queue and holding Qantas Platinum card.

"I'm the 8:30am to BNE with wife and daughter"
Qantas customer service "Checked bags?"
"Yes but I can leave them here. Also have pram for my daughter."
CSA"Too late to check in the pram/stroller."
"What else can we do?"
CSA "We can get you on later flight"
"What would have I to pay, and how long do I have to wait?
CSA "Won't cost you anything. Let me check." I took this to mean as I was Platinum there was no cost.
"Thanks"
CSA "I can you on the 9:00am flight" 27AB were available which was a blessing

Great result. Heavy traffic M5 East tunnel. On the way to airport thinking I'd be paying ~$200 or more. FWIW didn't use OLCI.

Got a free fly forward today for myself and two others on my booking without even having to ask for it!

Congratulations though I have to say you are extremely lucky as it could just have easily ended up how you expected.

Yes I know and was prepared for worst but it's at times like that Qantas really surprise me.

Also great service on board. All FAs kept coming around asking if there was anything they could do. One FA is 5 months pregnant and had a chat to my wife. When we boarded 26BC were abailable and guy in 27C asked to move a row forward and FAs allowed him to move there. Wife moved to 27C and we good flight. Daughter managed to sleep for entire flight.

I dont think it's necessarily a plat benefit. I prefer to think it's a full service airline being helpful.
Airlines don't need to gouge every cent from its customers. Some do.
Airlines want us to understand that their operations are unlikely to be 100% but some airlines expect 100% ontime performance from its passengers. Won't happens so quid pro quo if the airlines want us the customers to cut them a bit of slack when things go awry they should cut us a bit of slack too

The plat helped but I think the stroller is a big indicator for the airline to up their game and service
