Philippine Airlines Delays/Cancellations

Wednesday 11 July 2018 sees PR211, the overnight from MNL down to SYD (RP-C9932, the new A321neo) likely to arrive at 0920 hours, 35 late.

This may be one of the first visits to SYD of a non-Australian airline's A321neo.

On Friday 20 July, the 1645 hours MNL down to MEL PR 207 (A333 RP-C8789) took off at 1812 so arrival should be at 0353 hours on Saturday 21. This will delay the returning PR208, the 0440 hours.

PR211 is often punctual but this is not teh case with the Saturday 21 July arrival in SYD. A333 RP-C8786 did not take off from MNL until 0210 hours so arrival is estimated at 1155 hours, 190 late. This will delay the returning PR212, the 1030 hours to at least 1310 in its departure.

Sunday 22 July 2018 sees PR222, the 1100 BNE - MNL (A321neo RP-C9932) not having taken off until 1241 hours, so arrival is estimated as 1817, 87 late.

PR211 from MNL to SYD with RP-C9930, a near new A321neo, should arrive on Wednesday 25 July at 0947 hours, 62 late. This will delay teh 1030 hours PR212 back to MNL until at least 1110 in its departure.

PR214 (Thursday 16 August 2018, the 0600 hours SYD - MNL with new RP-C9933, an A321neo with flat beds in J in this single aisle aircraft - a first for Australian skies, took off at 0625, arriving at 1227, 32 late. This may have been this aircraft's first return international trip.

RP-C8780 (A333) on the MNL - MEL redeye PR209 arrived on Friday 17 August 2018 at 0828, 128 late. This is delaying the 0800 hours return PR210 from MEL until at least 0950.

On Friday 17 August 2018, PR210 (0800 hours MEL up to MNL, A333 RP-C8780) took off at 1043 (as PR209 was late in) but due to the MF8667 'runway excursion' at 2356 hours at MNL on Thursday late night, PR210 has diverted to DVO, arriving at 1542.

PR212, the 1030 hours SYD - MNL (A321neo RP-C9933) departed at 1033, taking off at 1058 but diverted to CRK, which unlike DVO is on the main island of Luzon and roughly 90km from Metro Manila. It arrived CRK at 1724 hours compared with scheduled MNL arrival at 1650.

Apparently runway 06/24 (the one used by most international flights) was to be closed until 1200 (noon) o 17 August but it was shut until at least 1600. 'Philippine Daily Inquirer' has a comprehensive report online. It may still be closed as at 2100 AEST (1900 PST).

PR207/PR208, respectively the 1645 hours MNL - MEL and (Saturday 18) 0440 hours MEL - MNL were cancelled. PR211/PR212, the 2225 hours MNL - SYD and (Saturday) 1030 hours SYD - MNL also got the flick.

RP-C9932 on PR221, the Friday night 2330 hours MNL - BNE took off at 0050 on Saturday 18, arriving at 1114 hours, 114 minutes late.

A333 RP-C8780 that operated yesterday's PR210 that had to divert to DVO due to MF8667's 'runeay excursion' took off from DVO on Saturday 18 August 2018 (as PR5210) at 1334 hours and should arrive at about 1520 as MNL approach is congested.

Due to the huge airport congestion in MNL (thanks MF!), PR209, the Saturday 18 August redeye down to MEL has been altered to depart at 2120 with arrival in MEL at 0745, 85 late. My guess is it will be further delayed.

UPDATE: A333 RP-C8781 arrived MEL at 1042 on Sunday 19 August, 262 late. PR210 returning, the 0800 hours, will be delayed until at least 1225 in its departure.

PR211 (A333 RP-C8783) is worse, with this 2225 hours scheduled ex MNL on Saturday taking off at 0341 on Sunday 19. SYD arrival is predicted as 1412 hours, 327 late. This will delay PR212, the 1030 hours until at least 1535 in its departure.

PAL,,,,Plane Again Late....

PAL,,,,Plane Again Late....

Funny, but it has a far better timekeeping record than a decade ago, despite MNL airport congestion (terrible when I was last there which wasn't within the last few months) and unexpected events such as the MF fight runway excursion on Thursday night at close to midnight.

In any case most up there believe it stands for 'Plane Always Late.'

Just a joke. I always fly PAL, I just try to be patient with the delays and security issues through Manila.
Most of my friends fly Singapore, which have direct flights into Cebu bypassing the chaos of MNL... but the overall flight time is longer.

Yes, Manila is one southeast Asian city that needs to bite the bullet and either build a new airport or instead (probably not ideal given lack of a rail line) use CRK instead. As with Australia, there can be lots of talk but not much action (although incremental improvements have been made to T1 at MNL, and T3 is good, while T4 is now domestic only and OK if very basic. T2 is ugly, sterile in the worst of ways, has no restaurants or decent shops and needs demolition.)

PR210 (Sunday 19 August 2018, the 0800 hours MEL - MNL with A333 RP-C8781) was airborne at 1316 hours so arrival should be at about 1933 tonight, 293 minutes late.

PR212 (Sunday 19 August 2018, the 1030 hours SYD - MNL delayed by the cpolsure of the main MNL runway due to an MF plane skidding off) took off at 1622 with RP-C8783. Arrival is estimated as 2239, 349 minutes tardy.

PR213 (Sunday 26 August 2018, the 1100 hours MNL down to SYD, A321neo RP-C9932) took off at 1203 so arrival has become an estimated 2148 hours, 48 late.

Monday 24 September 2018's PR213 (1100 hours MNL down to SYD, A321 RP-C9932 that took off at 1204) should arrive 40 late at 2140.

Due to the late PR207, Saturday 17 November's PR208 (A333 RP-C8784), the 0550 hours MEL - MNL took off at 0649 so an 1146 hours, 41 minutes tardy arrival is the prediction.

Saturday 1 December finds PR212 (RP-C9930, A321), the 1150 hours SYD - MNL having taken off at 1214, so arrival is estimated at 1722 this afternoon, 32 late.
