Philippine Airlines Delays/Cancellations

Due to PR209 arriving 73 minutes late in MEL at 0833 on Friday 21 July, PR210 from MEL back to MNL (RP-C8760) did not take off until 1101 hours. Arrival is suggested as 1735, more than two hours tardy.

Although the ex MNL PR209 arrived MEL on Sunday 23 July at about 0820, an hour late with recently refurbished RP-C8785, the 0900 MEL - MNL (PR210) did not become airborne until 1248, so arrival is suggested as 1853 hours, 198 minutes late.

On Wednesday 26 July, due to the hour late arrival of PR209 from MNL to MEL that should arrive at 0710 hours, PR210 (A333 RP-C8784, the 0900 MEL - MNL) took off at 1023 and should arrive at 1643, 68 minutes late.

Friday 28 July sees very recently refurbished RP-C8784 (A333) from MNL to MEL on PR209 likely to arrive at 0924, 124 minutes late, delaying the returning PR210 from its scheduled 0900 hours departure until at least 1045. This PR aircraft has a similar layout in J now (with a slightly more generous pitch in both J and Y) to the QF A333s but QF does not fly this route. It is a vast improvement as to how the PR A333s were previously configured with a now removed horrible nine across configuration in Y.

Fairly old RP-C3435 on PR211, the overnight from MNL to SYD is estimated to arrive at 0918 hours, 33 late. In the next month or so these aircraft may cease operating this route when another A333 that has been totally refurbished becomes available, but this airline's schedules to SYD are a mix of day and night flights so more than one aircraft is required at times for the route. Like many airlines PR has not totally explained its plans, although seven or eight of these A333s are initially being gutted and refurbished with the remaining ones in the fleet maybe also receiving this 'renovation.'

A343 RP-C3436 on PR213 (1115 hours MNL - SYD that was airborne at 1206 on Monday 7 August) should arrive 42 late at 2142 hours.

On Wednesday 9 August, the MNL - MEL redeye PR209 operated by recently refitted with suites in business class A333 RP-C8785 arrived in MEL at 0819, 59 minutes late. This will delay the scheduled 0900 hours departure of PR210 back to MNL until at least 0935 hours.

Sunday 13 August sees the overnight PR209 (A333 RP-C8784) arriving into MEL (ex MNL) at 0814, 54 minutes late. This will delay the 0900 flight (PR210) back to MNL.

On Thursday 17 August, comprehensively recently refurbished RP-C8765 on PR214 (0600 early morning SYD - MNL) took off about five minutes late at 0625 but arrival is not estimated until 1233 hours, 38 late.

Later on 23 August, PR213, the thrice weekly 1115 hours MNL - SYD (A333 RP-C8766) that was airborne on time at 1134 is arriving at 2130, half an hour tardy. This flight overnights and like an EK flight is first away for international flights at 0600 tomorrow which for passengers means rising at 0200 in many cases.

On Tuesday 12 September, PR209, the 2115 hours MNL - MEL with recently refurbished A333 RP-C8789 did not depart until 2241. It then diverted to DRW, making a brief stop from 0531 to 0616 on Wednesday 13 and has an expected MEL arrival at 1045, 205 minutes late. This will delay PR210, the 0900 hours MEL - MNL to at least 1200 'high noon' in its departure.

Was this a medical diversion?

Tuesday 19 September has seen PR214 (early morning 0600 SYD - MNL, A333 RP-C8784) not take off until 0650. Arrival is predicted for 1255, an hour late.

UPDATE: PR214 did not arrive MNL until 1335 this afternoon.

Friday 22 September has PR209, the overnight from MNL (A333 RP-C8786) forecast to arrive at 0836, 76 minutes tardy. This will delay PR210, the 0900 hours scheduled departure back to MNL until at least 1000.

UPDATE: PR212 (1030 hours SYD - MNL, RP-C8785) was not airborne until 1126 so arrival is predicted at 1734, 39 minutes late.

PR210 from MEL is worse, with it also in the sky at 1126 but the expected deficit with a projected 1738 hours arrival having blown out to 138 minutes.

Thanks to the SYD airport radar failing at about 0520 hours on Monday 25 September at the start of the school holidays, the 0600 hours SYD - MNL (PR214, RP-C8784) was not airborne until 0759 hours. Arrival should be at about 1342 this afternoon in the Philippine capital, 107 minutes late.

On Saturday 14 October, refurbished A333 RP-C8786 on PR211 from MNL down to SYD should arrive at 1015 hours, half an hour late.

A320 RP-C8620 on PR221 (0630 hours DRW down to BNE, second sector of a flight that earlier departed MNL) took off at 0719 so arrival should be at 1136 hours, 36 minutes late.

It will soon be replaced by nonstop MNL - AKL flights, but on Tuesday 17 October the second sector of PR218 from CNS to AKL, the 0845 hours that was airborne at 1021 (A321 RP-C9905) should arrive at 1738, 85 minutes late.

Wednesday 18 October's PR213 (1100 daytime MNL down to SYD) was meant to be operated by A333 RP-C8785 but it has been delayed until expected departure at 2230 tonight. It would have missed curfew in SYD, an ever present risk for a number of airlines' flights that leave various Asian or Middle Eastern ports and have an evening landing timetabled for SYD.

PR214, the 0600 hours SYD - MNL on Thursday 19 October is estimated to depart at 1130 hours.

RP-C8784 on the delayed PR214 (see above) on Thursday 19 October was airborne from SYD at 1144. MNL arrival should be at 1556, 301 minutes late.
