Purely for wank value... I'm travelling into Europe on an Australian passport. Routing SIN-LHR-IBZ-ATH-FCO-ORY-AMS-TXL-LHR-BKK. Just to flaunt it to the friends, which (if any) countries are likely to stamp my passport. Will it just be in LHR and then never again in the EU, or don't we even get stamped anymore over there?
Thanks

I believe....

Once in LHR when you enter. Then probably stamped at IBZ upon entry, stamped out when you leave TXL.

Rest of places in EU shouldn't stamp as they will be intra Schengen flights - hence no immigration controls.

Hehe, that's the other issue - immigration apathy :) danielribo may have to ask for the stamps!

LOL... That's pretty Italian. The Germans would definitely stamp you out! I mean, they would stamp your passport on your way out.

Def stamped into the UK (not out of UK). Then stamped again entering the Schengen region of the UK, and possibly on the way of Schengen region. The 15 Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. All these countries except Norway and Iceland are European Union members.

See this site for information on the Eurpean Schengen agreement.

So when travelling in Europe, travel between Schengen signatory countries is like domestic travel for immigration purposes. Travel into or out of the Schengen region is like international travel.

I can't for the life of me remember the process for outbound immigration in the UK...

No stamping for Aussie passport holders exiting the UK. Passport is checked by check-in staff and then at a security point to verify identity (i.e. they look at the photo in the passport) as you pass through security screening.

You forget a fair amount when you leave the country for 8 years. I was sure that there wasn't an outbound immigration check - which is why I always find teh Oz outbound check strange - even after all these years...

I knew I had the stamps - had to go back a few years to find them on the same pages to scan. Sorry for the blur - that's to protect my PP number...

As you can see, Arlanda (Sweden) in and out, and LHR - no stamp for exiting England...

oomph - I am viewing this via dialup - that image must be over a megabyte, it's been four minutes and is still loading.

It's always interesting to compare entering Schengen countries through FCO with other ports. I've found they barely look at the passport before stamping.
FRA causes some people problems, but I have never had a problem.
Maastricht (the only time that I have flown FR) was a real grilling. Funny thing was there was only one immigration officer and I had more than half the plane behind me. They weren't very happy.
MRS was a cake walk as well, yet CDG has always been very diligent.

Today I had the pleasure of viewing an australian passport issued in 1919.My how times have changed.Valid for travel throughout the british empire and protectorates excluding Palestine, egypt and Mesopotamia. This person did travel to Egypt and had to get the permission of the foreign office in London to visit.Leaving European countries the passport had to be stamped by the official British agent of the country concerned.
The cost was 2 shillings for 2 years and you could get four 2 year extensions again for 2 shillings each.

On my somewhat recent LONE4 I was stamped on entry and exit to KRK, entry to MUC and exit from FRA.

They don't always check the passport at the security point either. It sort of surprises me that the UK basically seems to have abandoned exit checks.
