I have a current Skype number but they are closing on 5 may 2025,
the cheapest alternative is this.
it only costs 85cents per month to maintain and .009 a minute to receive calls and no upfront charges though you have to put $US15 to start but get $10 to join here.
the old Skype number was $A72 so this is a lot cheaper

Do you know if it's possible to forward my Australian mobile to it and it automatically captures a voicemail and then sends it as a WAV file to my email? Thinking of use case when I'm overseas for extended periods.

My Sydney landline with CrazyTel costs me 35c month. My mobile is always forwarded to it and I answer calls with the CrazyTel VoIP app my phone. If I don't answer the call an audio file of the message is sent to my email. There is no cost for receiving calls on the CrazyTel 02 number I have.
