On board recognition - who gets any?

Took my first VA flight in six months or so this morning. Only a short one, but no recognition whatsoever.

I have to say, the PB lane worked perfectly, though. VA have got that one sussed, at least.

Agree on the PB lane, they've always got this one down pat.

Recently flew MEL-LAX and return with my partner who is also Platinum and no acknowledgment at all! We even had to ask for the priority custom forms. Flew premium economy.

Over the last eight weeks I have been working down in Melbourne and flying back to Sydney every second weekend. I have so far on every trip used fly ahead as I have managed to get to the airport much earlier than expected. It has been quite touch and go with onboard recognition. I usually at least get a "Welcome back Mr. WormDog" however on one flight I simply got a "Seat 3C, to your right". The execption to this would have been VA 868 this last sunday. I was seated in 3F and flying on a saver fare. I was personnally greeted and asked about my weekend ( I had to wait for some J flyers to settle themselves in ). I was offered a spare galaxy tab for use of the flight and was also not charged for a soft drink from the cart.

Overall a very nice flight.

P.S. I am SG

Im Sitting on a flight having to listen to some clown next to me whinge and cough to the cabin manager demanding he receive one of the Samsung galaxy tabs on a flight where no Ife is offered in the economy cabin as there was no livetoair.

from what I could hear from the conversation. he is Platinum, flying on a saver light fare. Was annoyed because he was never upgraded into business. Never given a shadow in row 3, never offered business class catering in y. The poor csm, was polite, stayed firm and followed every rule they are governed by. Good on him.

My question is as a platinum or gold or any status in fact, where is the published rules that state:

I am platinum I shall receive:

Free upgrades to j when i think i should because i have status. You already get these "advertised" benefits. Use them.

Pay for saver or saver light and get inflight entertainment when the rest of the cabin does not?

Expect a shadow in row 3?

Receive j catering or in fact any j privileges that You did not pay for, again devaluing the product?

Placing your bag in j when traveling in y leaving no space for the passengers paying for J.

Self hanging your jacket so there is no place for the passengers paying for J

Receive so much recognition to feed your ego status that is already inflated. There are other passengers onboard as well.

I've seen and heard it all on here and onboard the plane.

The enticements as a status member are clearly stated. Why get shirty over not getting something your not entitled to or did not pay for.

I have been a long term lurker on this forum and seen first hand from status members their attitude and "king kong beat my chest I will get what ever I want attitude" because I'm platinum, and treat the cabin staff like fools, and abuse and monopolize their time when they have genuine paying passengers in j to attend to, and then abuse them for doing their jobs and following the set standards virgin Australia publish as a benefits?

I think some on here and others need to get of their high horses, and come down a peg or two. You are receiving what you paid for in Y.
I understand if you are not. But expecting more because of status or more onboard recognition than every other pax is just plain selfish. Maybe if you allowed the staff to do their job, planes would go out on time I'd get home on time and allow me to
enjoy the flight and not have to listen to some idiot whinge for half the flight about a product they never paid for.

if you want the product pay for it otherwise use your complimentary upgrades.

Whilst I do agree with your post in general, this thread isn't a whinge thread about not getting recognition, it's a curiosity thread asking who has been shown any recognition above and beyond that expected. Also, the shadow is a suggestion put to VFF rather than a whine about who does and who doesn't (and there are some good reasons to do this for their status members). Like you however, I do get annoyed when I see rude behaviour in-flight.....and that isn't just the DYKWIA attitudes but also the slovenly aura of some so called elite flyers who seem to think they can put their feet all over the seats, armrests and bulkheads and also the pigs who continually pass wind of the "silent but deadly" variety!

Clearly you've entirely missed the point of this thread. Sounds like you've seen someone who has received the royal treatment in the past but didn't on that flight. The question remains, why did they get that in the past, when this platinum and many others receive absolutely nothing extra.

As for empty middle seats in row 3. Again it seems you misunderstand. I've had 2 flights recently that have been less that 2/3s full, with multiple completely empty rows. And yet people have been in that middle seat in row 3, with empty aisle seats in rows 4, 5 and 6. This week i even saw a middle seat that was empty when boarding commenced, after check in was closed and yet the last person to board is sitting in that row 3 middle seat. Their luggage then had to be placed above row 15, they were shorter than me and so there was zero advantage to them sitting there. They were also gold which begs the question of why the gate agent or lounge staff decided to move them into that seat at the last minute. In those situations there is no need at all to sit in row 3 middle seats.

Then there is the idea of providing extras to platinum, or whichever, customers. As I said I've never had any extra/special recognition on board a VA flight. But the thing is that the domestic competition do provide extras to platinum customers and above. These is generally about recognising the money they spend with the airline and to make their weekly flights a bit more comfortable. Making the flight as comfortable as possible is what attracts business customers to your airline. Apparently, that is virgins goal in repositioning their airline.

Finally, I don't find equating those asking about recognition in this thread witj the pig you observed as being respectful.

Got a welcome back entering the aircraft. Managed row 10 on new A332... hope my shadow sticks!!

I'll report back after my VA flight today, but as I'm going in J I'm sure i'll get the attention, regardless of how shiny my FF card is.

In fact, i've never had a bad crew in J yet but perhaps i've just been lucky.

So nothing on boarding. Was a pregnant pause as I handed over my boarding pass and they obviously decided my last name must have been too difficult to pronounce. Got a "welcome aboard you're in 1G this evening" and that's it. So far just regular J service (which, as regular, has been excellent!).

Did a VA return today in Y, first time with them in a while.
Had the use of The Lounges, priority boarding (strictly enforced as usual) and first row of Y. So, the hard benefits. No special platinum recognition... but then again I was going to and from CBR so they're not exactly a rarity there.

I've had recognition on flights. Usually the standard "welcome back daggs", a newspaper, galaxy tab, but nothing really special.

Was sitting next to a TV host in Y and he received the items from the menu complimentary. I had to pay :(
